Yes they are, same with those damn “tar snakes” especially around on/off ramps. There’s TONS of them in my city. Almost laid my bike down on one riding an on-ramp with the sun blocking the view of the road.

And wet expansion joints on bridges and overpasses if you are banked into a turn.

If you want to save money, just buy a new rear tire and never let the front one touch the ground!

When the white cord shows through, you’ve gotten your money’s worth out of that tire. Seriously, don’t be a fool.
Also watch out for tar snakes- the black patches to fill cracks in the pavement. If you really wait too long, the tire cords start to show and the tire becomes less round and feels terrible while riding, greatly increasing crash chances (learned the hard way). Shinko tires are likely false economy- they wear out so much faster you likely save money and crash damage costs by getting Michelin tires. Same for Chinese batteries dead after maybe a year and a half, instead of longer lasting Yuasa batteries.
My instructor told us that the tyres are the only 1 thing connecting to the road. Don't save money on it. Change when you need to.
Just learned about my tires after riding my first bike all season. Tires are 8 years old! First two sessions in the below 40s with wet roads and the back tire was a Honda SlipnSlide. I’ll be getting new tires soon. Going for the chain and sprockets too.
Becareful going through toll booths because that's where oil lays from cars and trucks leaking. Its slick as hell especially when its raining. Just a thought.

i'm learning a ton from this comment section lmao
This was very informative. Thank you.
Great advice!
Thanks Sean!
Mine is flat in the middle, but still hasn't gone down to the tread wear indicator.
Some touring and sport bike tires have almost no tread in the middle. Like a slick with only cornering tread. When is that type worn out?
Howdy from Australia..... Enjoy both your channels. Interested to see if Sean would do a segment on Darkside. Car tyre on bikes.
I bought my bike three weeks ago and I just noticed today the rear is to the belt on one spot. I ordered a new set of tires today. She's parked for now. F'n sucks. I hope shipping is fast.
Sean whats the best tire you would recommend for my 94 Virgo bobber? I have Metzler Marathons on it now, thats what came on it.
Good advice.
Thanks for hi-lighting 'SAFETY' rather than shine & speed in this vid. Of course a shiny & powerful bike is something to make it attractive. However without safety as the main ingredient, one can loose that gleam in the eye and thrust under foot. Indeed one can wind up with no sight in the eyes, mobility of a body in one piece and thus a bike in a 1000 pieces due to foreseeable danger out there on the pavement. By the way, have you got any late-model Indian cruisers in your inventory at present?? Looking to purchase before Apr.2022.
Did you square off your beard, you been hanging with Jedidiah? Keep up the good work, cool channel.
I got the still original front tire on my 2013 Yamaha Stryker and am only now wanting to change it with 21k miles. Rear is getting its third replacement. Took it for a ride two days ago and it was trash on the highway all shaking and stuff. Rear tread center is like less than 2/32 and the front is maybe 3/32 but is dry rotting like right in thr contact patch and starting to show near the bead. Is what it is, thank God nothing has happened with the front tire all these years
Thanks!!
Are tires that 15years old but have no visible dry rot or cracking safe. The bike spent its entire life indoors
What about camber wear?
is that Old Spice SWAGGER on the shelf?!? on the subject, i swapped from Shenko/dunlop to Michelins on my 2006 Nomad, WORLD OF DIFFERENCE!!!!!!!
I live in Indiana Pennsylvania (western pa) and just purchased a back tire for my v rod from a professional motorsports place in Kittanning. I was super excited to put this Pirelli on, get it scrubbed, and get riding. Well, that is, until I was told that the place I wanted to do the swap, won't touch it. This is when I was informed of dot codes on tires. mine ended in 4808. I was sold a 14 year old freaking tire fir $220 to put on my cvo v rod and see how long I can live. sweet!😐

So my tires are in really good condition, but they will be five years from the stamp date in june. I have had the bike 2 years and store it inside, not sure sure how the previous owner stored it. Is that an automatic change or am I good for this season?
My front tire is pretty much junk. Lumpy on one side 😬😂😂😂, thanks for the video.

I had a bad rear tire and I fell going in a straight line after it rained.
Lol I got cords showing. About to go hit a loop 👌
I get new tires when I can see the face of President Lincoln on a penny. It’s called the penny test you see his face time for new tires
How often should I change my tires? I have a 7 yr bike but I only have a little over 7,000 miles

Man...I just discovered your channel some days ago and watched your latest videos since then. It's really clear that you like doing this and that you like talking about bikes and everything what has to do with it. The only thing that I had to mention is that you never solve the "mistery" described in the titles. In this case, instead of talking about all the cases in which a tire is not anymore safe, like age, uneaven profile, rips, holes etc., you spent almost all the video talking about the symptoms of a flat weared tire...I think it would be better if you would choose the titles more wisely regarding of what you're going to say or focus more on the subject described by the title. Ride safe!

Ok thanks for pointing that out.
Bought a leftover 2020 ninja 650, back in April. Now i put about 4100 miles on it in about 4 and half months. My front tire is already level to warning track, and right side is considerably more worn than left. Rear tire is leveled out but not as bad as front. Has anybody else had the front go before the rear? Alsi any recommendations of a decent tire would be helpful, 4 months is just not acceptable, even for a oem.

@Knicks Fan. sounds like premature wear do to improper air pressure (psi). Check on a weekly basis. It really matters!!!
O yes very good topic don't know how many people I know wrecked there motorcycle because don't have good tires on it very important
It would be unsafe if you see cords. Remember you ride on 2” of rubber all the time.
Sean.......???? What about industry safety standards on replacement by age...🤔. 5-6 years....Should have mentioned DOT date codes👀

Azdeh 5-6 years is the tire industry standard I’ve heard & read based on the DOT date code stamped on all modern tires on the sidewall.

Yeah I ll get more in depth on this topic later but it was more of a broad warning to the new riders to not neglect tires
What if you don't have much wear because the bike isn't rode often and there is no splitting on the side walls or noticeable rot, is there a point when a tire should be changed because of age?
@briandavenport8971

Rule of thumb, 5 years from the manufactur date on the tire... not 5 years from when you bought it.

IDK why but the number 2 years jumps out on me. The rubber hardens over time. Honestly if you have to ask the question just change the tire. I had an old sportster that had old tires on it and I never felt comfortable with the bike.

@@briandavenport8971 i just replaced the rear tyre on my bike, it was 22 years old. xD
Not only do you have two inches of crap...flat spot on tire....when you lean, you have merely fractions of an inch until you get beyond that “shelf edge”.....scary slip, at best....loss of traction into a dangerous slide at worst. My two cents.
The uneven beard is throwing me off. 😕/ But good info on the tires. It answered my questions. Most places only charge 5 bucks for a trim. Should look into that.
I just drove 150 miles on a 20 year old slightly rotten Bridgestone
Riding below the TWI ensures a ticket if you get stopped by police.
Mine was unsafe so I just replaced it.
Plot twist: it's always dangerous lol
Mine is getting bold in the sides xD
