When hiking in Scotland doesn't go to plan...

AD - This video is sponsored by Scottish Water
In this vlog, my walk did NOT go to plan but instead, I went on a drive to clear my head. Loved it! Especially that wee beach in Dunoon.
#NatureCalls is a campaign by @Sottish_Water that is encouraging people to have a wee think about what they flush down the toilet and pour down sinks. Things like wet wipes and period products should be binned, not flushed and unfortunately, this still regularly happens. Even wipes that state they are 'flushable' - aren't!
Scottish Water asks that you #BinWipes because many of these products contain plastic, so they don't biodegrade and then combine that with oils, grease etc that are put down sinks...this all creates blockages in our sewer pipes! Everything then spills into our communities, rivers and seas which is so harmful to the environment and our wildlife.
I'm going to stop using wet wipes to take my makeup off. That's a promise!

My mom would've had a gigantic fit if she saw me putting grease down the sink or wipes/period products down the toilet! I learned early on that this is sooo important. Thanks for showing these beautiful areas to us. 💗

Nice video. Way to make the most of a rainy day! Great public service message too. There is a Norwegian saying “there is no bad weather, only bad clothes.” But I agree that a nice drive and a few wee walks are better on a rainy day than a long hike.

Migraines are terrible. I used to get them years ago, and that was pretty much the end of the day's plans when it would happen. Tylenol, cold cloth over the eyes and lay down in bed or wherever. I hope you are feeling better now Erin. You know, if you ever need a hiking partner, you can always give me a shout. Of course I will need a couple day's notice as I live on Canada's west coast...lol. I love to hike in the rain...did I mention I live on Canada's west (wet) coast? Love the rain, or at least get used to it...or relocate elsewhere. The scenery there is so beautiful. I really wish I was able to come and visit for a month or two. It's really good that they are cognizant of the pollution issue, and the need to protect Scotland's (the world's) waterways. 👍👍

Thank you for this video, Erin. I enjoy your "lonely walk in nature" kind of videos most. Perhaps the combined effect of your natural honesty and positive personality and the purity and quiet wisdom of nature has a particularly strong cleansing impact on one's soul. It is almost like a kind of psychotherapy. I hope I do not embarrass you with such compliments. Thank you again and best wishes: Peter.

Lovely video as always, Erin. Watching this made me realize how much I miss my hiking days. Getting out in nature always made me feel better as person. Sitting and watching it rain does sound depressing; one of my first overnight camps developed into a (unexpected) rainstorm. I was sitting and fuming at my now drowned fire, and after a few minutes I simply accepted the situation. After that, it became peaceful. Despite the rain, I think you enjoyed yourself and it was good for you. Great message about the pollution problem, we all need to do a better job of taking care of this planet. Thanks for sharing, your humor and heart always makes my day better.

Done the sitting at a table in a hotel bit, moodily watching the rain on the windows and the day slowly ebbing away. Even done the sitting in that very hotel. Walked Beinn Ime twice and not had a view for more than twenty yards either time. I hope you have managed to get out again since you filmed this as judging by my social media the weather has actually been absolutely glorious in Scotland the last few days and has actually been better the further north you go. Scottish Water have launched a long-overdue campaign and it is really good that they have sponsored your video. I have a sad little story about what people should not flush down toilets. A few years ago when there were lodgers in the next house but one I came home from work at lunchtime in pouring rain to find evil coloured water all round the passage at the side of my house. Very soon the foul tide would start threatening my front door. My neighbour and I managed to get drain rods from another neighbour and Brian pushed and pulled the rods while I shovelled. And carried bucket after bucket into the field near my house and emptied them into the hedgerow. Wet wipes were the least of what I shovelled up. I have no idea why folks would want to get rid of their unwanted smalls by flushing them down the toilet but that's what they had been doing for months. And then, thankfully a hot bath. I still stank after a lengthy wallow in the bath.

Really irritating that companies can state these wipes are flushable when they clearly are not suitable for flushing. I love the hiking videos. Speaking as someone that has in the past flushed wipes in toilets I know why its done. People never think of were it ends up but just that it goes a way some how. Scottish Watters have a great message. Plastics and chemicals in the Earth's oceans and other water supply is a major problem that ends in our bodies. LastWeek Tonight with John Oliver done an episode about PTFE such Teflon and how it has gotten into everyone's bodies from plutoed water and caused heath problems. Also Doctor Who has an episode in series 12 called " Praxeus" that deals with the plastics in the oceans of the earth. Plastics and chemicals in the earth's bodies of waters is a problem that needs to be dealt with, and has already gotten out of hand. Thanks for the great environmental Message. Love the video.

From the photos and videos I normally see of Scotland I tend to think of it as pristine. That garbage patch you showed would seem to feel right at home here in Ohio, a state not particularly known for its scenery. But human instincts everywhere predate large settlements and the invention of plastic.

I've been watching your videos because I'm trying to learn to fake a Scottish accent for my dnd game lol. Really loved hearing about you talking about banning wipes because of how they aren't good for the environment. I used to use them all the time and felt bad about it (didn't flush them though) but I've finally moved to CeraVe Micellar water and cotton pads! (I know the cotton pads have issues too but they are *much* better than what I was using). Anyways, love your videos and keep being the lovely you that you are. 💜Also, as my Norwegian in-laws always love to say...there is no bad weather, only bad clothing!

Yes, hiking-regardless of whether or not it goes all according to plans-certainly is known to be a very healthy activity…That said, I’m sure if I enjoyed the outdoors as much as I’ve observed you to in your Videos, I probably wouldn’t be carrying around those few unwanted pounds…My sister is health conscious, though, whereas I am ignorant as to which foods are healthy and which foods are unhealthy…My sister knows how to make healthy choices whereas I’m always on the “See-Food Diet”…My sister is very active, as you appear to be in these Videos… . I’m curious as to whether you’ve ever done Videos about the differences between the Irish Accent and the Scottish accent…If you do, in fact, have such a Video, please identify it for me within a Reply to this Comment; otherwise, I’m putting in a Video suggestion/request for Irish VS Scottish Accent…Being American, I find that I’m often unable to truly differentiate between the two accents… . I’ve selected the “Open Transcript” option and then Copied & Pasted the Transcript into an E-Mail to my friends (who are deaf), and they’ve read that whole Podcast in one sitting…For all the “Haud Yer Wheesht” Podcasts, I’ve been Copying & Pasting the Transcript into E-Mails to my friends, so they can Read the Podcasts (as they’re deaf and, thus, can’t hear at all)…Although my friends mention that they’re unfortunately incapable of listening to Music (unless it’s through vibrations) and, thus, headphones are entirely useless to them (beyond being an “Over-Sized Paperweight,” I suppose), they say it’s nice that “Hearing” people can have favorite music and singers/songwriters to lift their spirits and make themselves feel happier…My friends mention that they enjoy Horror films too while, meanwhile, I’m more like Tammy/Moscow (“WeeScottishLass”) in that I often wait until October/Halloween Season to break out the Horror films…Usually, I end up joining in with my friends as they have Horror Movie Marathons throughout October, but meanwhile I find that I have a lot of English Subtitles to ignore, as my friends always have the CC turned on whereas I don’t need it, so they hand me the remote controller so I can set the Volume Level to wherever I like it, as they realize that I’m “Hearing” and am too lazy to read all that text, LOL…I’ve expressed my opinion to my deaf friends my opinion that between you, Scott, and Tammy/Moscow, your accent is the strongest…My friends said they had no idea, as the Auto-Captions typically work very well on you, as they usually don’t get confused when reading your Captions…My friends say they often follow along with the Podcasts fairly well (as they’re reading them), as you guys typically blurt out one another’s names as you’re talking with one another, which indicates for them who’s saying what…My friends tell me they haven’t “Read” this Video yet, but they’ll be sure to do so soon…
