To win on demand against any strong opponent is not easy. Make it against Abasov with the black pieces, it is extremely tough. But that is the task, Gukesh had in the 12th round of the FIDE Candidates 2024. The game began with 1.d4 and moved into Nimzo Indian territory. White played the Qc2 variation (Classical Nimzo Indian) and Gukesh had a new idea prepared there as early as move 4. Check out this entire game with the commentary by IM Sagar Shah.

The time control of the tournament is 2 hrsfor first 39 moves and then additional time of 30 min after 40th move
