When Friendships Change, It's OK to Let It Go | Sadie Robertson Huff & Laney Rene

Sadie's best friend and former roommate, Laney Rene, has some real-life experience with difficult friendships - from fear of making one to the unbearable thought of losing one, Laney can relate! Sadie and Laney first met while they were both grieving friendships that had ended badly, and they talk about their own shifting friendship as they were both single at the same time, then met and married their husbands, had children, and moved to different states. Laney describes her past difficulties with letting go of failing friendships, and why that ability was necessary for her personal growth. Laney describes how you should not place your happiness in the hands of others, especially ones who talk about you behind your back. Sadie encourages us to always remember: No matter how much hurt you've experienced, sisterhood and friendship is ALWAYS worth pursuing and fighting for - they're gifts from the Lord! Don't be afraid to start new friendships!

I myself feel like I have never had a true friend. I got a glimpse of a friendship but my life situation changed and that ended. I feel like I will never be able to find a true friend. It’s hard to not be discouraged. I’ve been praying for a true friend for years now. I’m still waiting on God. ❤️‍🩹

The need for friends is so real and deep. Honestly, I've been questioning with my sister if somethings wrong with us because we just can't seen to make deep friends in adulthood. We don't do thing things people are age do, and we are both not married. It makes it hard.

From a young age I hadn’t been able to find a friend that I got to feel safe with. I was hurt a lot and best friends turned into bullies/talked about me behind my back. It has caused me to have my guard up as an adult toward other women. It’s extremely difficult for me to drop them in order to get to know someone and let them get to know me. It feels unnatural and super uncomfortable to consciously try to drop those walls to where I sometimes get a little awkward because I’m trying far too hard to drop my guard. This was such a necessary conversation for me to hear. This has been my life’s biggest struggle. I’m praying for it.

I seriously thought I was the only one who felt that way about friendships, especially since a lot of my new friends in Christ felt like family and I wanted them to be life long relationships. It’s hard when a friend turns against you and wants to tear you apart, but that’s when choosing Christ is everything. 💡

So timely I tried to hold onto my most dearest Christian friendship and they ghosted me once I got engaged as we were both waiting for our Boaz and they didn’t yet. I used to feel pain that they left our friendship but now that they got married and with kids they are talking to me again. It’s sad though because I really needed them as I prepared for marriage but we were luckily women of faith so I got through it.

That was good. A few more thoughts. You mentioned iron sharpening iron. That takes a great deal of maturity to speak and hear what a friend has to say to you without walling up. If a friend feels you cannot accept any correction, rebuke, or challenge it can make gossip a lot easier. Friendship should not be entirely uplifting and “you’re awesome”. Friends have a great insight to our lives and can be a real tool for holiness but we have to allow them to speak truth and be open to it. For the young moms out there I am going to say an awkward truth. All your mixed gender play dates might include best friends under age 8 but you are going to want to be highly invested in some mom friends with kids of the same gender because it really will get awkward at some point.

Hi Sadie I love your podcasts. You are like a christian big sister and it's so amazing because you have so many good reflections about so many different topics. I would love if you would talk about how to speak with others about a person without it being gosip or judgemental in a wrong way e.g. when someone dosen't contribute in your studygroup and you talk about it without the member being present. Would love your christian view on that since I can't figure out where the line is.

God loves u all sm God bless any prayer requests or any questions? God sent his only son to die for u so live for Him (not trying to force) Gods got u and is in ur corner always, fighting for u, and the best way for u to fight is on your knees, praying. Start with journaling, prayer, worship, turn off bad music, verses, living like the fruit of the spirit each day. Nobody is perfect except Jesus. Its okay to make mistakes, we all do. Feel free to reach out nd talk for anything. ask God for wisdom in every situation. God loves u and so do i. Have a blessed day friend. Some of my fav verses: Matthew 19:26, John 3:16, Isaiah 30:21. Pick 1 fruit of the spirit today, and practice and live by it in all areas. Invite God into your life, every aspect and area. Trust the story because you know the author. If there is any prayers I can pray for y'all pls lmk!
