'When free press is crushed, hate speech normalised, we've a democracy deficit,' Sagarika Ghose
In her maiden speech TMC MP Sagarika Ghose spoke in Rajya Sabha. In her 15-minutes long speech, she spoke on the state of media, democratic values, CAA and NEET issue among other issues. "India has a democracy deficit," she said.
'Those obsessed with the 1975 Emergency, why are they imitating the same Emergency? If they oppose the Emergency, why don’t they bolster democracy? Why are they imitating what they say they oppose?, she said.

There is a big difference between freedom of expression and intentionally offending a large segment of society and lack of good manners. Imagine if someone did what Salman Rushdie did and was exposed to the Hindu religion, would you accept that?
