You can tell the development team really loved Rikku. Even though the game really focuses on the back lore of Paine, Rikku's actions during her time without Yuna are mentioned all throughout it. I think the most telling is that she clearly had a love interest with Gippal, and it's very clear in ffx2 that he ended up really falling into wanting to pursue her again despite being the reason they broke up. They added a lot of hints to Rikku's effect in the world of Spira. Her design change was also the most drastic, and they used her as a secondary cover girl for the series advertisements. And then again with her return in the last mission once again bringing more world lore. It would've been nice to see them give her more spotlight since she is so loved... but I get that story wise, she would have overshadowed Yuna because she's far more dynamic. They do this to Vanille in ff13 as well...😢

The rare scene between Rikku and Yuna ontop of the airship in X2 proves that as yuna promised to at it’d be Rikku’s story next. And that it’s her turn. As “it’s not about me anymore. I want it to be all about you Rikku” or something like that. And asking her what she wanted her own story to be about

I'm actually so upset we didn't get this ngl, Rikku is my favourite character, always wished I could run around the map as her.

Yeah, Rikku was, & is really kewl, 1 of my favorite FF characters ... super cute, super kewl nerdy girly-girl (Yes, I'm a lil weebish X_X; & yes, I had a big thing for Rikku back in the day... kinda wish there were still ladies like her in the real world .... yakno... Kind-hearted, cute, sweet & generally really fun to be around ... )

I imagine Rikku's game being more focus on Gippal and the whole war and machinery of Vegnagun and Yuna's just FFX-2 but maybe more focus on Nooje and Baralai confrontation

Im like while i do like those three, we kinda already know how their adventure went. Personally I'd rather them tell a story taking place during the Machina War 1000 years ago, but this is a cool idea as well

@@ThundagaT2 Oo focusing on the Machina war would be really interesting too! Thank you - I really enjoyed those 3+ Paine and feel like their story could easily be expanded on. Spira is a really interesting world and there’s a lot that could be done that focuses on other characters. I’d also be happy with something that focused on Rin and Shinra and that rumour about FFX/X-2 connecting to FFVII but that would probably be highly controversial. 😂

​@@ThundagaT2 FFX-0 Original Sin Features heavily: Yunalesca Lord Zaon Yu Yevon Shuyin Lenne Focusing on the final days of the Machina war between Bevelle and Zanarkand. Give it the Halo 2 treatment where it switches between two protagonists on opposite sides each learning a worldview shattering truth. They'll need to develop the Bevelle faction more heavily to do that. The origins of Sin, Dream Zanarkand, and Yevon etc. Same for Vegnagun. Then give it an FF7 Crisis Core & Halo Reach type vibe of noble tragedy, doomed inevitability and massive foreshadowing etc. Done right they could make it able to be played independently and be a hook point into the FFX series. THEN do the Auron, Jecht, Braska prequel.

Damn, not only Rikku got shafted by not being playable in Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia for so long, but she got shafted way before X-2 was a thing gahddamn

Dissidia is ending in February of 2024 (end of month, beginning March 2024, Final Fantasy Dissidia Opera Omnia will be shut down completely. There was even a message from the developer about it. Really wishing Rikku was in though. They foreshadowed her as a tease but never put her in.

I would have enjoy playing as Rikku.

I wished they just added some bits of Rikku's perspective. Maybe some sphere's like we got of Paine's past. And others like how talking to NPCs played a large part in FFx-2. Maybe Brother or Shinra spilling bits about Rikku.

If X-2 was released just a few years later with the release of the PSP I could see Rikku's side being a PSP version with Yuna's being on PS2 (⁠.⁠ ⁠❛⁠ ⁠ᴗ⁠ ⁠❛⁠.⁠)

@@longvuhoang8499 Crisis core was literally on psp. Sure it wouldnt have been a straight up port, but a very close version couldve easily been made for the psp. (also monster hunter FU was on the psp which is arguably bigger than FFX-2)

It would be cool if X-3 actually had her as the main protagonist and added more development for her while still having Tidua and Yuna be the central focus of the overarching storyline. Rikku has always had potential as a main protagonist.

Some changes to the monster capturing mechanics and you basically have a pokemon game. Also Last Mission is Mystery Dungeon... Now I think the developers just wanted to make a pokemon game

that woulda been awesome. rikku is one of my all time favorite ff characters

It would have been fun seeing how Rikku felt about the events of X and how she was dealing with the lost of Tidus as well. See what regrets she had, hidden thoughts she never let out. Honestly i would have liked having the 2 perspectives

All it really needed was giving Rikku a big objective similar to what Yuna was up to. but Yuna's was... pretty phenomenal. She pretty much breaks the universe to restore Tidus to life. What would Rikku have to compare to that??? I did notice hints of this in the story though. Certain parts of the story of the game we did get have Rikku as the main driving force of a mission. Also the entire mission structure itself in FFX-2 seems designed to make the game modular so they can swap out parts more easily.

The Japanese version had extra dresspheres. We didn't get them in the USA. It is featured in the original strategy guide. Beside the outfits it said it was for Japan only.

If you get the ps vita FFX and X2 remastered, you get all of the dresspheres. I have the USA version but I think it's from the international version back in the day that had all of spheres.

It was not the original Japanese version, it was the International + Last Mission version, an updated version in the same vein as Kingdom Hearts Final Mix.

Man, kinda similar to DFFOO's JP version, which was about 6 months or so ahead of the GL (global) version. 😞

Not gonna lie…. I would’ve had both versions on preorder the moment they opened up orders for them. The cast of FFX are iconic and have a special place in my heart along with the music and storytelling. Definitely plan to introduce my future kids and nieces/nephews to Final Fantasy through X all the way.

Your first one is a groundbreaking experience and often your entry point to JRPGs, everything that follows just cannot have that "magic" again, especially other final fantasy titles. That is why final fantasy fans tend to be super critical of late FFs. Most people started either with 7 or 10.

I fell hard for Rikku when she stood up to Wakka and pointed out that blindly following religious teachings without thinking for yourself is not the way to go.

Even though I don't mind the X-2 we got I'm curious to see how the version thing would have played out. Especially sine Rikku is my favorite character in X. I'm surprised the actual Pokemon Final Fantasy didn't have two versions

It would play out like the secret scene between Yuna and Rikku ontop of the airship where they have a long talk about various things including asking Rikku what she wanted to do as it’ll be about her when all the FFX2 story gets finished so to speak. If you haven’t seen it you really should!❤

i’m still sad and upset that we didn’t get this, as a Rikku stan. i would have loved this, hopefully we can get a remake in the future and play as her

this kills me since 2003, I have never forgot it, no matter what others said, despite SquareEnix said it was just "rumors", I knew they really meant it, there is a reason why Yuna tells to Rikku: "Next time it's your story Rikku", two decades passed by and now I'm working on "Final Fantasy X-2.8: Rikku's Story" with a team

@@jughcorey What do you mean gameplay wise? The battle system or the overall gameplay in general? The story is shit, which is what FF is all about.. The cheesy little girl vibe is shit, and weird considering it’s a main line title.. Went from probably the best opening sequence in a FF game in X from the start until you get to Besaid, to some weird shit finding out Brother wants to be a girl, Yuna is a Japanese style teen pop star and the games version of Sephiroth/Seymour/Kuja is Leblanc and her “goons”.. In terms of gameplay yeah, the battle system flows which is more engaging and fun.. The dress sphere system was quite cool, one thing X probably could have done differently was it’s levelling and equipment systems even though they’re unique and work, most people obviously prefer a more role based system, but that’s all I can think of.. The mission system is horrible, the chapter system is horrible, the % of completion thing is horrible especially considering a ton of it is tied to pointless trekking to every single area in every chapter to have some pointless conversation or do a pointless and boring thing.. And then you get rewards/endings BASED on wether you wasted all that time.. I was 14 when it released, I got the guide book too, can’t imagine how many people never saw the better endings until years after release either through following guides on the internet or just watching it on KZread or something.. I know the end game of X is a grind, a SERIOUS grind, but it’s all completely optional and not tied to the main game, you generally don’t start the end game until you’ve reached the final save point, the game is done, you’ve seen everything there is to see and you miss out on nothing wether you decide to do the end game or not.. If good gameplay to you is having to sit there for 10 minutes listening to Maechen multiple times throughout the game or watching countless comm spheres countless times or having to read a guide to say the right things to people for the calm lands mission then fine, but I find all that shit more boring.. I try to play through the game once in a blue moon but I just can’t, I get bored, while I can and do play through X once every few years, end game and all.. No disrespect but whenever I see someone saying X-2 is a good game I just automatically assume they’re either female or real life Brothers..

@@GrappleHeavy93 i enjoyed x2, the music was good and the battle system was fun. i do agree though despite my feelings about x2, x was the best ff game ive ever played...its been like a drug high for me..every ff game ive played since x hasnt been able to live up to x in regard to characters, depth, overworld, story ect. ffx is the best game square has ever made

i feel we got robbed of the Rikku story.

What's crazy is this game is 20 years old and I still haven't beat it yet😊

I beated in 2008 when i was 6 years old.

Depending on how much they decided to take from pokemon, then one of the biggest possible differences, besides those in the story, might've been version exclusive job classes. Which, makes it interesting to think of who would've gotten what.

The ffx 2 should be the story with the three headleaders lord braska jecht and auron and show us how these three did everything that the ffx shows us piece by piece so it should be the story before ffx

This actually really sucks. I woulda bought both of them in a heartbeat! I LOVE Yuna and Rikku! But then again this woulda started a dangerous trend for Square Enix.

Holy Yevon I never knew of this fact!! Now that would have been interesting and a part of me almost believes in this one rumor from years back how they were trying to do a third Final Fantasy 10 but with Rikku as the protagonist

Rikku's perspective would have been interesting!! Can't imagine the side quests we would have gotten, but I'm sure it would have been fun!! I hope we get more FFX content in the future, 8-y-o me yearns for more content ( ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)

Considering X-2 starts with the misdirect of somebody pretending to be Yuna. I can kind of see that as possibly an event that was going to happen in both games to add a lot of mystery as to why they at odds with each other. So I can kind of see it.

I would play a Rikku game for sure

Awwww she so deserves that! If I had to guess, the possibility of getting Tidus back was *such* a powerful motivator to get the plot moving in Yuna's story, and it would have been very difficult for them to create something anywhere near as compelling for Rikku's (at least to the point that a significant chunk of players would actually opt for her version).

That would've been cool if we are to play as rikku. We'll learn more about the al bhed culture in her perspective

Playing as Rikku would have been awesome but I know that if this happened I would have gone with the Yuna version😅

Seems like somebody kept this idea and eventually used it to give Yuffie her own DLC in Remake. Super cool that they considered Rikku to be this important

I loved X-2 since the very beginning when I ran the game for the first time, right after beating X and watching the cutscene in between where you see Yuna about to embark on her next journey. And when I heard that song on the opening credits I felt like I was watching the opening of the second season of a tv series. A purely magical moment 😊

I was in my late teens when FFX 2 came out and Rikku distracted me a lot.

I honestly have a final fantasy type story planned in my head with two versions of it, and yeah it could be really fun !

I remember reading an article in one of those video game magazines back in like 2002 or something that they were going to release alternate versions of FFX one following Rikki and another following Yuna. Seeing the story through their eyes. Then a few years later X-2 came out and was like ok I can see how they got here but wasn’t what I initially thought it was going to be.

Probably the most important broadcast for every young man to see.

Everyone hating on 10-2 makes no sense. Amazing combat and a fun story.

I would have immediately bought the rikku version and never looked back

I love Paine. She was my favorite character in X-2.

I imagine the gameplay would have been quite similar, with the main difference being cutscenes being different, because Rikku may have gone off to do her own thing and had different experiences. Hopefully they would also give her different gameplay sections as well. Part of me thinks that's an exciting idea, and another part of me is glad they abandoned it, whatever it was like. Maybe if it was a full fledged side-story with nothing in common with Yuna's game, that would have been better.

Literally telling Rikku that it can be all about her next time and that she wishes it to be so ! Check the scene out

Rikku deserves her own spin off or back story going into Yuna and how they are related and why is brother such a creep.

I agree, especially for 6. The pastel-remaster looks worse than the original, imo. Also, if they were to remake 8 I'd love if they disabled enemies leveling up with you. Turning them into cards to strengthen your GFs was tedious, but I liked the junction-system and the characters. Sorry for rambling. Have a nice day🙌

X doesn't need a remake. It's been remastered for nearly every existing console already. I have it on ps3, ps4 (honestly don't know why at this point) and Switch. I HAD them on ps2 as their individual games before I sold it lol. It doesn't need to be remade, they'll only be able to add pointless padding and remove elements people love. Or they'll do the FF7 sequel approach of claiming to be a remake while it's actually not. At all. I was suckered in by the first one. It would have been an awesome NEW installment from the series if they reskinned the protagonists.

@@nairbdelrey1561 Oh feck off. It's a different opinion, not wrong. If they remake any more of the ff series they remake them. If they don't they don't. And yes, unless far less people buy the ff7remake sequels each time, it's going to be just as much a success as usual. Nothing I say will change that. I'm a person that's bought the original ff7 multiple times, and a couple of it's sequels. Don't hate the franchise, just dislike the remake.

I mean they brought back Rikku in the World of Final Fantasy.

They could still do it, but they should also add it from Paine’s perspective.

Rikku has enough charisma to star her own game or become a Final Fantasy kinda mascot. I say we give her the chance

I feel like this approach of two separate protagonists would work well if it was like kingdom hearts birth by sleep where the the three main characters had their own playable campaigns with the story almost being the same but with different viewpoints and endings

They actually did it, remember the prologue you play as Rikku, from her perspective until you meet Yuna

I still hate that they changed it from the turn based system of FFX to the ATB system I hate, which is the sole reason I still have yet to beat X-2

X & X-2 has so much replay value even until this day

If they made a Rikku version, maybe Tara Strong would be missing on My Little Pony, especially if the project date is parallel with each other.

Actually there's a lot random haters hate this game LOL(cause they don't accept Yuna new personalities or new system) But this is my Favorite game all of time i play 3 times even they already lvl99 Most fun is collecting Coin monster, Cactuar, and Sphere.

I think it could have been fun to play Rikku, especially after they concluded Tidus and Yuna.

I suppose in the Rikku version, it would be canon that Rin was the villain whereas in the Yuna version, it would be Rikku's fault just because that's actually how the 100 percent completion goes because they thought it was too unfair to require Rin villainy to unlock the 'better ending'. In that case, perhaps in the Rikku version it would have been much easier to unlock the Rin villainy outcome.

She is the better character. Nobody wants to address the fact that Yuna never really makes decisions or life changes for herself BY herself. She's very weak willed in general and although she has a lot of growth it's very ironically main character syndrome and she comes off very coddled cause of everything she has at her disposal. Without Tidus or Rikku she would have never grew as much. Yunas personality in X2 seems like a mixture of natural growth, adopting what she remembered of Tidus personality and Rikkus influence.

_X-2_ has a _Pokémon_ style gameplay mechanic in it so that would make some sense.

Considering how many Final Fantasy games have come out and continue to release, this seems like a small mercy. They could have simply rolled some of that extra content into the existing game or as alternate scenes available in a movie viewer or something. The games are long enough as it is, but I'm sure some people would have enjoyed it more than I.

Rikku is the most thematically consistent character in X, perhaps even more so than Tidus. If they do a 3rd game i hope she gets the spotlight

10-2 does have game play that was a unique experience. The story was a big gamble and not really my cup of tea but class changes mid battle with bonuses for doing it and shit was unique and I haven't seen another game go off that model since... kinda a shame because the battle system was weirdly amusing.

This does make a little sense to me since a handful of people tend to not like X-2 if the game just kind of smashes these two perspectives together instead of going with their original plan makes sense as to why it could be weird for some people

That is a cool idea… …for there to be multiple perspectives, not potentially having to buy two games at once for the full story. Best case-scenario would have been a Nier/Drakengard approach

So Rikku would also had her own songs. What a miss opportunity.

I enjoyed ffX-2 it’s arguably one of my favorites in the series. I always wished it wasn’t so sort…it left you wanting more. I would’ve like this too if it’d happened. I keep thinking that ffX-3 will come out one day. FfX universe is my top five favorite game ever. Right there with ff6, ff8, ff4, and 6…

That's not what Pokémon does. This is more like if the paths in Seiken Densetsu 3/Secret of Mana 2 had been 3 games.

Golden Sun used the same idea, much more like this then pokemon. The two games told the same overall story, one from the perspective of the 'good' guys and one from the 'bad' guys

I'm sure if this had happened and somehow was a moderate success, they'll come up with a third game, the Paine version

This would've been super duper neat. Maybe wouldn't go over well with everybody in '02 but still nice concept.

I'm still kind of upset they never gave us the PREQUEL-sequel spinoff game we all REALLY wanted: Jecht, Braska, and Auron's pilgrimage!! That would have been AMAZING!!

I mean, maybe. We saw most of their journey, and it was pretty straightforward. They went from bevelle to besaid, then back to bevelle to Zanarkand. Nothing notable until they arrived in Zanarkand and all died.
