When Day passed away at 97, it surprised many that there was no funeral or grave marker. Unraveling this enigma, the video delves into the life of Doris Day and the circumstances that led to her unique final wishes.
Born in Cincinnati, Day's journey to stardom began with a car accident that shattered her dreams of dancing but led her to music. Her breakout hit, "Sentimental Journey," made her an anthem for WWII troops, propelling her to a successful music career. She later transitioned to acting, conquering Hollywood with her charm and comedic talent.
Yet, Day's personal life was marred by hardships. Married four times, she endured domestic violence, infidelity, and financial instability. Her relationship with her only child, Terry, was a mix of joy and sorrow. After Terry's death, the estrangement from her grandson, Ryan, added complexity to her later years.
In her final years, Day lived a private life in California, devoting herself to animal welfare. When she passed away, her surprising decision not to have a funeral or grave marker was rooted in her personal beliefs and experiences. The estrangement from her grandson and the loss of her only son influenced her choices.
Day's unique approach to life valued simplicity, privacy, and a deep love for animals. Her legacy reminds us that even in death, individuals have the right to make decisions aligned with their beliefs.

I think be sure to too much confidence in her life. And stopping her grandson from seeing her was wrong. And the fact that she doesn't have a marker or a funeral that was all bishores doing. I think now that she's passed away. I think he should demand the location of his grandmother so he can pay his respects. But I'm sure she'd go to jail.

Of course, and you're "very" smart !! it is NOT important that she loved the animals !!! She loved more than everything her grandson, and they were both, - granny and grandson - forced to terminate their relationship and connection !!!! THAT is really important, and not the animals ! And who was the criminal that stopped that relationship ? Who wanted the end of that God-given relationship ? The answer is the jew Bashara. You continue to meditate about the animals !!!!!!

Doris was one in a billion, unique natural talents, a beautiful vocal gift and a ray of sunshine. She was brilliant in great films like `Love Me or Leave Me ` and `Calamity Jane` but Doris was so good she even saved lousy films like `Starlift` and `Tunnel of Love` from being total flops. No matter what film she made , good or bad, you just love her. Another example of her immense talent saving a film was the film ` Caprice` she`s wonderful in that film as it shows her natural talent for physical comedy. Also the title song `Caprice` is beautifully sung by Doris. She was a total natural in `With Six you get Eggroll `... Loved her in `Jumbo` , Teachers Pet , Send Me no Flowers, Pajama Game , The Thrill of it All, Please Don`t eat the Daises`, Julie, The Glass Bottom Boat, Pillow Talk , and one of her earliest films `My Dream is Yours`. Another early film which gave us the first glimpse of her talent for drama was the film `Storm Warning`. It is sad all the many years she`s brought joy to the lives of millions and millions of people , she almost had no one in her own life to do the same for her . I was so sad for her when her son Terry passed because they were very close and there was really no family left after he passed other than grandson Ryan which by that time was no longer in Doris`s life. I`m not surprised Doris did not want a funeral or a grave marker, she was like that about her own pets, whenever one of her doggies passed, she would never want to know where they were buried and she almost never talked about their death. Thankfully she kept her faith in God and she never lost her passion for the animals . I heard her say once during an interview that she believe God put animals here on earth to teach us love , patience and loyalty . RIP Miss Day !

I love that she was a lover of animals. I am still looking forward to the day that I can visit her hotel in Carmel and stay there. My mother taught me her song “Que será, será” when I was three years old. My family used to have me sing it in front of our guests at home when the friends would ask us to perform which was often. Sadly, as I grew older I became shy and withdrawn. Now my life has come full circle, happily married for many years and an animal lover as well. Thank you Ms. Doris Day for gracing our lives with your talent. You are still fondly remembered to this day. 🩷🙏🌹

I was appalled by the fact that a relative stranger, Beshara opted to keep Doris Day permanently away from her grandson and thwarted all attempts by Doris to visit with her and sadly, her grandson was her only blood relation, after the untimely passing of her only child & son, Terry. I highly disapprove of strangers who for whatever reason, intentionally butts in and do their utmost to jettison any family contact and reunions. Especially as DD was getting on in years with only her pets for companionship & comfort. I'm quite saddened by this sad chapter and should prove that famed and admired 'stars' are usually but not totally, lead their senior years very much alone. This so-called manager has had a financial agenda and who came to interfere in the lives of vulnerable celebrities that are getting on in years. I don't blame her for wanting her exit this world quietly and her desire to pass away with a minimum amount of mourning. So her final days were tinged with unhappiness. She was a mega talented who deserved better treatment.

God does not bless sin and perversion. Sometimes tolerates it for quite some time and that's out of his Mercy but then comes Justice. Mercy is an unmerited gift that no one deserves and The Giver of the gift is under no obligation to do so. Justice on the other hand is getting what one deserves sometimes that is God's reaction to dispense Justice. Sometimes that Justice is Earthly and sometimes it comes after life and sometimes it occurs both in this life and in the next. I suggest you read Romans 8 and 9

@@jgfreer8322 I was not referring to her compassion but rather to his affliction. You're quoting a line where they were going to Stone a woman and biblically the penalty is in fact death for what you gave. Christ came at that time for a different purpose. The next time he comes it will be for judgment. Furthermore Matthew does call us to judge those who claim to be Christian. Wherever did you get the idea that we are not to judge people? We would have a very difficult justice system if we did not do that. You are twisting lines for your own purposes

Poor Doris to have these 6 huge losses. The death of her only child and the estrangement from her only grandchild at the hands of her “manager” must have been incredibly painful for her. The only constant were the constant comfort of her own pets. If only more people; friends, partners families were that constant unwavering support to each other, like pets are. I hope that she had her pets to the end and arrangements were made for a forever loving home after Doris death. The loving way she treated her pets ….she would have treated her son and grandson the same with songs and stories….such a shame. Thank you Doris for your music, acting and animal advocacy for animal’s living conditions. You are missed and loved.

Doris Day was open about being a Christian Scientist. That explains why she did not want a funeral. Funerals in the faith are never held in a CS church. They may be held privately if someone wishes. Man is viewed as immortal and death is merely a natural passage. My grandmother was a devout Christian Scientist and I attended Sunday school as a child. While their beliefs differ from mine today, I respect them. Hopefully, this explanation helps give possible understanding of Doris Day's final wishes. What a great lady she was!

I totally agree with DD. I’ve consumed a lot living… no need to consume more into eternity with a grave and marker. I don’t want a formal funeral, just a few (3 or 4) get togethers with family and friends, at dates and locations that are convenient for those interested. Free BBQ, free beer and some great macaroons for people to take home afterwards, all paid for out of my estate that should easily be worth 10’s of 100’s of dollars. Maybe even 100 hundreds of dollars. ($10,000 for the math challenged). Plant my ashes beneath a tree somewhere so people could come and visit. By the time the tree dies, nobody will care what happened to my body after I died.

Who couldn’t admire Doris Day! She was a lovely, talented woman, who could have just lived out her life quietly and privately. Instead, she went to bat for the sake of abused animals. I have no doubt that she is resting in peace.

So blessed to have met her in 1980 at her home in Beverly Hills, she was preparing to move up to Carmel at that time and Terry came to pick her up as they were headed up there that day, so I was able to meet Terry too ! She was delightful to a fan from MN and posed for pictures. A day I will never forget. Thankfully, I now am in contact with Ryan who is a wonderful young man.

Doris was my favorite Actress. I loved all her Movies and her Singing too! I think it is sad that She didn’t get to see her Grandson. That’s not right, he was stopped from seeing his Grandma, that is cruel, and it is strange her Manager fired who She and Terry hired. and then the Manager hired his Family members. I just wonder who got Doris’s Money and Did her Grandson receive any money. Doris should of realized something was wrong when her Grandson didn’t show up. The communication between Doris and Her Grandson was blocked without Doris’s knowledge. Does anyone else think this is strange?

No one on this earth could EVER keep me from my family...no one! Under the circumstances perhaps she donated her estate to the animal foundation she created. If she left it to her grandson I an sure the manager would find a way to get it. A foundation would be harder to acquire it through Unscrupulous channels I would think. Regardless, I loved all of her performances. She started as an outstanding talent and to her last movie, that excellence remained just that, excellent.

As a child I loved watching Doris Day movies and now as a senior still believe she was one of the greatest of her times. She candidly spoke of not being especially deserving of her wholesome image. She would not have probably been any different if she was born later. She continued to appreciate the men and women she shared the screen with and never "lowered" herself to media pressure to do otherwise. She was one of those charmed people who knew that God had bestowed on her many gifts along with many challenges. Hearing today for the first time that another lawyer came between her and her only grandchild saddens me. I am 100% sure he would have been great solace for her in her last years here on earth. He should not carry this with him through his life. This wonderful lady gave the world so much; he deserved her private grandmotherly love in the end. Thank you for this story.
