AAAAHH!! This is crazy. As a child I struggled with this, and I actually did go to see a dermatologist. My dad would always tell me "you just need to scrub yourself better.. blah blah blah" (I did also have it on my neck)-- and the dermatologist did tell me to just use alcohol on it. I was like 9 I think, and after wiping it off once or twice it stopped happening to me, never thought of it again. So, obviously never thought to do my own research on it. But it's CRAZY that I now know that this is what it was! Mind blown. Love your channel ZDogg. I'm a nursing student a year out from graduating and I love how in a lot of your videos you always mention nurses and praise them, I think that is really awesome and sets a great tone. You rock! :)

How often did you use the alcohol? I had a 100% isopropyl alcohol but I don't know if I can just mix it with water (like alcohol 2/3 - 1/3 water) and daily use? Weekly use? How would be that? I would be grateful for any help 👍🏻

Thank you for sharing! I remember a lecturer talking about this because their child had it. Definitely good to inform patients about better search techniques to induce less anxiety.

I have VEDS (vascular ehlers-danlos)and HEDS (hypermobility ehlers-danlos), Central Adrenal Insuffiencey and Exocrine Pancreatic Insuffiencey as my main three diagnoses all rare and completely unrelated. Then I have another 20 co-morbid diagnoses ranging from common to very rare.

Skin things are hard to diagnose. I've seen a patient with a rash get treated for 8 different things. Good job on diagnosing your girl. :) Hard to remember what we did before google.

I always use Dr google when a doctor/specialist gives me a new medication or diagnosis so I can understand it more, look for side effects and interactions, and see treatments available. I think the knowledge it can provide to a new diagnosis/medication really takes the anxiety away as a patient.

Thank you for covering this topic. It’s completely hypocritical for health care professionals, including doctors, to mock patients using Dr. Google- when they use their phone as references all of the time. Also, perhaps patients would be less inclined to do this IF their physicians actually listened to them && weren’t so egotistical about knowing everything.

Curious if you could make a video, and maybe include Mrs.Dogg, as to how Two physicians would use Dr.google? And even re-enact thr searching scenario and narrate your thought process. I'm sure would be very informative to others

I’m an RN. I was having a lot of pain in the top of my left foot a few years ago and had googled it before going to the podiatrist. Google suggested a neuroma. I didn’t mention my search to the podiatrist who ended up diagnosing a neuroma. After a series of injections not working, I was ready to have it removed, but he wanted an MRI first. I got that done, and they gave me a disc. I looked at the images on my computer and went back to internet to search what neuromas look like on MRI. I didn’t see anything that really seemed to match, but I took it with a grain of salt since it’s not my line of work to read images. When I went back to the podiatrist, he had received a report saying no neuroma but that I had bursitis. I told him I had looked at the disc and images online, and I think I apologized for doing so because I remember him reassuring me that it was okay because that’s how to learn by looking things up. Maybe it was the teacher in him because when I gave him my disc to review, he said he was going to keep it for teaching purposes.

I was 33 and I had a cough that wouldn't go away, I would cough so much I would vomit. My doctor said it was part nasal drip, I didn't agree, that is when I consulted WebMD and started to rule things out based on their suggestions. I came up with asthma...but how? No one in my family has asthma, I have never smoked, and I was a very active person. I booked an appointment with pulmonologist, and was dx'd with asthma. The pulmonologist told me that there is a (very) small amount of adults that get dx'd with asthma...weird right?

I have been pretty darn good at diagnosing myself. I usually make a small list of what I feel is wrong and I consult my doctor. I eliminate factors and symptoms to make my appointment faster. My first positive diagnosis was Diabetes at 14.

I picked Dr. Google's brain and got kuru.

My daughter just turned 7 and today I saw this exact kind of rash on her neck. My husband (this is his account, my name is Lydia :) )googled it and we were both super concerned about diabetes as a possibility, though it doesn't run in either of our families. I googled it some more after he went to bed, and I think I found the very same article your wife did, with differential diagnoses. Then I youtube searched the term terra firma-forme dermatosis and found your video! Since my daughter is asleep I haven't tried the rubbing alcohol yet, but I'm thinking this is probably what it is. I look forward to trying it out in the morning!

I google almost all the time when I have a medical problem and I actually find it reduces any anxiety I might have because my first thought is always the worst case scenario, Dr. Google always gives me a better case scenario and calms my nerves. I'm not always able to narrow it down to 100% this is what i have, but I'll usually narrow it down to a couple and then I'll go to the doc because in order to narrow it down further I need lab testing and only a doc can order that. I am not a doctor or a nurse but I do have a degree in science so maybe my reasoning and deduction skills are as good as a doctor and I am familiar with the terminology because I'm studying to become a Medical Technologist and we obviously have to learn that as part of our education.

Actually this show was my Doctor Google once- a guest was talking about her Ehlers Danlos and Z was and crew were reacting to how she can bend. Meanwhile I'm watching going "wait that isn't normal?!" Next time I see my Rheumatologist I bring it up and show him exactly how I can bend myself and he cringed so hard seeing how much I can contort. I can't afford any testing, but seeing as I have most of the symptoms and am partially Ashkenazi Jew he figures I do indeed have it, lol.

I had that as a kid and my foster parent just cleaned everything with alcohol.... I didn't realize that there was a name for it. Omg

Like ZPub’s appearance at the beginning of the video as a nice intro into this discussion. She is a pretty little girl. For what it’s worth, I had an apparently similar rash, hyperpigmented, macular, on my neck when I was fifteen. I saw a dermatologist who thought it was eczema and prescribed me a topical corticosteroid. The rash responded to that.

My 18yr old Daughter has this condition, she has had it now for 4yrs, 70% alcohol used to work at the start but sadly it has no effect on it now and she covered from head to toe and no one can help her as know one knows anything about the condition! I may not have seen it, but can you talk about opinions on mobile app docs? Is it thorough enough to really be considered an alternative to physical visits?

Dr Google doesn’t bother me because I try not to worry about how the patient created anxiety in themselves so I talk to them about what Dr Google said.

I actually had found out about my rare disease on my own after my doctors had all given up. My mom was a nurse, I was a pharmacy tech for a few years, but do have a degree in ILS, so databases are my jam. I have all new doctors now, but because they don’t have as much time to search as I do, we both do the work. Because my condition is genetic, we found relatives with it too. For a long time, my treatment was based on anecdotal evidence because there was nothing else. USE YOUR MEDICAL LIBRARIANS.

Dr. Google brought me to you. I was researching up on my case and I believe this is what I have. Unfortunately I don’t have any alcohol on hand so I need to go to the store. Haha.

I actually diagnosed two of my health issues thanks to doctor google. Chronic Exertional Compartment Syndrome being the big one. My family doc at the time was clueless. Then I went to a walk in doc and again they were stumped. So I finally figured it out on my own. When I finally saw a sports medicine doc, he agreed that my symptoms were classic for that issue. Google has helped me with a lot of health related issues and how to solve them in some cases.

Shaine MacDonald but remember its google. So anyone can put anything on there. Also, Im pretty its just your doctors that were not as good, not "doctor google" being better than actual doctors. Remeber that doctor google is just a collection of information put together by ACTUAL doctors like the ones thay coulnt figure out what you had. Ive disgnosed myself with breast cancer (gynacomestia), glaucoma (overeacting to seeing rainbows at my flashlight, which is normal lol), and etc.. thanks to doctor google. Turns out none of those conditions were anything once I saw my real doctor, and Im still alive and not blind.

@@devenadajania1518 neither here, man Tbh I didn't try that the way I should at all, just a feel days and then I gave up lol But I am going to a dermatologist, the stains are getting worse on my feet, and it's already almost 4 years since the first little stain appeared... Idk what that shit is 🤦🏻‍♂️

As a hypochondriac, I have learned to stay away, unless there's something really concerning (which I acknowledge is questionable when coming from me). Thankfully, being fully aware of my weakness, when I start getting "worked up," I begin checking off all the symptoms I DON'T have 😉

Nesha Jennings I noticed that a lot of the people that google their symptoms, and more when it comes to symptoms related to a disease their doctors can’t point, have many [self-diagnosed] illnesses. It happens with mental illnesses a lot too. I wonder how many of them are mental. I’m not saying that the symptoms are fake, or are in their head. Not at all. The symptoms may be very real, but they could be caused by the excessive preoccupation of being ill. Just like placebo. The body and mind are very powerful. It has the ability to heal itself, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it caused symptoms too out of stress and fear. I have been guilty of the dr. Google diagnoses. I even diagnosed myself with cancer once, and went to the doctor to get checked. The PA was the one to see me, and she didn’t take me seriously. I forgot about that, and I’m ok to this day, so I was wrong. I have learned not to look too much into it. Some times I still search, but I don’t take it too seriously. If it is too bad, or I’m in extreme pain I go to the clinic, and don’t try to treat myself.

Really?? As a hypochondriac google is my best friend, it's the only thing that can reassure me that everything's ok when I don't have my personal GP at my disposal. Every other person and doctor only makes my anxiety worse because they never confirm that it's not something I should be worried about, Google tells me here you little assshit here's amillion other bengin conditions it probably is and my personal GP is like Yep this is def. some benign condition! Every other person is like I'm not a doc IDK, and the docs are like well technically it COULD be worst case scenario, we need to run tests because my suspicion of it being worst case scenario is high enough for me to require testing (turns out it's just normal for docs in the US to run a million and one unnecessary tests as per "protocol")

My friend and I were talking and would like solve the problem of googling your symptoms. If only we could create a way to get a website that surpasses Web MD when people are googling symptoms. Anyways, the website will have a symptom checklist but when submitted it will give you a picture of puppies and the address and phone number to the nearest clinic.

I may have the same thing based on your description. Doesn't really bother me aside from the appearance (It looks like I don't shower properly). My doctor is not sure what it is either but he prescribed Clotrimazole w/ Betamethasone and it seemed to make it disappear as long as I am putting the cream. I'm gonna stop using the medication and wait for the hyperpigmentation to come back then wipe it with alcohol. Wish me luck. Lol

The gold standard used by all doctors. If a paper shows up there, it is legit.

My personal opinion is that anybody random using Google will probably fail simply because of the fact of not knowing how to use the tool.. If you don't even know how to use quotes, parentheses, minus and + signs, you probably won't find your diagnosis or answer with it. This same applies to any professional using Google in any field. In summary: If you cannot work around the shitty Google that it nowadays is, you're probably already failing.

Ok dr google .... I live in timmins, I went to the hospital had no voice my throat is on fire, my son whom is autistic my daughter whom is 15 had sore throats refused to do a swab on our throats but pulled out his phone on some app said we had no symptoms of strep because we didn’t have white stripes, I asked three times, my daughter said mom he’s a doctor, I said no not when he’s showing me a app on his phone does a mono blood screen but can’t do a swab? Did a pregnancy test on my daughter, gave me a prescription for inhalers.. not even a week later my son has pneumonia and strep 🤭

I really feel for the veterinarian that commented #1- people think that because they give their dog a shot that they didn't go to years of medical school to get where they are. (joke: what do you call a doctor that can only treat one species,,? A): an MD) #2- I have a collectors shop, yes, people look up what I have & tell me the price for "the same thing" on e-bay. Because of course only doctors have analytical skills... sorry, my circumstance causes sarcasm to spew. Thank God for Doctors Google and KZread. I'm having an aberrant medical issue that I am having to coach you doctor guys on. So...don't be insulting. Your professions' "intelligence" has caused me to suffer greatly. I'm having an autoimmune reaction to surgical hardware (in my lowly opinion). Your professions' response has been to tell me to go away there is nothing wrong with you. Many of us that turn to Dr Google are desparate and terribly let down by the medical profession.

Except for the gifted part? Lol harsha marsha jeez but he’s being totally truthful when it comes to doctors not taking their kids to a doctor lol. Now I have only WORKED with quite a few doctors so I am basing my opinion off of my experiences. You see doctors offices if busy can have a lot of viruses and such so it very possible to get sick just from being there. And when anyone first gets into that line of work will get sick quite a bit just like when kids first start going to school but after that with flu shots etc., we don’t get sick as much. Another reason why some doctors don’t take their kids to the doctor is because they are over confident and have a god complex and refuse to believe that they could be wrong lol. Sorry but I had to throw that in there lol. But I think they may do some consulting over the phone with doctors they know because they are just SO busy sometimes. And the other reason is that they use their children guinea pigs lol
