Until he averages less than one free kick a season from his Juventus days to today. Overall ability is top notch but showing career highlights over 5 years old doesn’t prove the doubters wrong where free kicks are concerned.

@@Dream-li1gi completely did. He got a chronic knee injury in 2014. In where he was more of traditional winger post 2014 he changed solely to striker. His dribbling stats decreased significantly and in order to keep his numbers up win and have a long career he focused on goal scoring.
The amount of power he gets from so little backlift is astonishing. He must whip his leg through so fast. It would be interesting to see that analyzed.

A Real Madrid player wrote his biography detailing how Ronaldo generates the power. He believes that Ronaldo can generate the power due to his small feet. He says he has really small feet for a man his size and it’s allowed him to put more velocity in his shots. No he doesn't follow through you must have as little as possible contact with ball at the right spot for trajectory that's why he can't do knuckle ball anymore it's insanely harder than curve free kick.

Cristiano literally have free-kicks from long range, from extreme right, extreme left, center, curler, knuckle ball free-kicks, under the wall, between the wall. There is so much variety in his free-kicks. Messi's most of the free-kicks are curlers from short distance...

Ronaldo lost alot of Flair after leaving ManU he was Dribbling doing tricks and leaving defenders behind like a madman. Longshots freekicks just epic! In RM he kind of lost his flair and wasnt as enjoyable to watch, he was turned from winger to striker. Tap ins penaltys alot less time on the ball itself.

His goal against F.C. Porto might be one of the best goals I’ve ever seen. I’m 36 and have seen a lot of spectacular goals and moments but that was the purest strike I’ve seen.
The third goal was insane, no goalkeeper could stop that, the speed of the ball... It's just incredible
Man really broke the laws of physics on that Arsenal freekick. The ball starts to dip half way through its flight, then seems to suddenly stop dipping altogether and just follow a straighter trajectory. Never seen anything like it. Edit: Looking at it again, Almunia's hands are right where the ball would've been if the ball had followed the initial dip. I know that must've bamboozled the hell out of him lol

Seriously I witnessed this live and I literally turned to stone. I couldn't even understand it was possible. I have watched and rewatched this and have photographed every move when I play football and it's absolutely beautiful. The technique, the acceleration from stand still, the positioning of the ball, the set up, the power I mean the immense power and by jove thst speed generated on the ball omg! But don't forget the awareness of where he is on the field I don't even think he ever looked up, things like this don't happen by chance, he just not a genius of hard work he is a football God Genius!

Tbf the commentators have every right to to doubt ronaldos free kick ability. He misses so many. He always does that power shot that is amazing when it goes in but it rarely does. The thing is, he is good at taking them normally. The free kick he scored in the 2018 wc vs spain is a great example. I never understood why he doesnt take them like that

I've learned a longtime ago to stop doubt Cristiano, I've seen seasons after seasons how people talk about him, how "age is catching up" and he's "getting washed up", and man I've never stopped saying he can do it, no matter his age, he's the greatest, now 37 and still world class, and he still will be until he retires💯.

From a statistical perspective the commentators are absolutely right. Just recently there was an article in Marca. Here is an excerpt: "If we look at all the free kicks taken in the last five seasons in the five major leagues and select, to avoid bias, players who have taken at least 35 free kicks (an average of seven per season), Cristiano is 33rd with a 2.74% success rate (two goals from 73 attempts)." The success rate is quite poor! He scored some stunners though.

There’s no reason this man should have won 5 balon d’ors with an alien like Messi on the pitch, but he did it through sheer will power & the desire to be the best.

The best thing about Ronnie's free kicks are he had scored all types of free kicks be it 40 yards knuckleball 25 yards knuckleball( which is harder as compared to 40 because when you shoot with such tremendous power the ball doesn't come down quickly it flies high usually but he has produced unnatural movement in the ball) curlers, under the wall, tight angles And the most different and his unique through the wall between players free kick he has done it several times purposely I know people say it's luck but you'll see him do it purposely he knows they'll separate a bit and that's the space he requires to nail it he's brilliant one of his best technical qualities #GOAT
