It's the circle of construction, engineers hate architects, builders hate engineers and architects hate builders? Anyway as a professional civil engineer for 10 years I worked with a lot of builders, and the one thing I learned in that time is that they hate us- and we probably also give them some stick that isn't justified too... So, when Builder Simulator released a demo for Steam NextFest, it seemed like something I should play to try and learn why builders hate engineers so much and perhaps learn a new respect for my builder companions...

About Builder Simulator:
Builder Simulator is a game for those, whose biggest dream always was to construct your own house from scratch. Prepare your plan, buy needed materials, and build a perfect residence brick by brick. Will it be an easy task? At first, yes! After all, you’re just a rookie in this serious building industry. A specially made tutorial will guide you step by step through the twists and turns of construction work. However, the more experience you get, the more demanding the challenges become.
Design
Every big construction project starts with a pencil and a piece of paper. And so, it is in the Builder Simulator. You’ll start your work by designing a house on a drawing board. Lines, curves, squares - the whole layout is up to your taste. The only thing that can hold you back is your own imagination. So use this head of yours and draw the most excellent building of it all! And if you don't have an idea for a design, you can always choose one of the projects we have prepared.
Build
Have you finished your little design? Good! Now it’s time to put it into practice. Grab a bunch of bricks, take some cement, roll up your sleeves, and build, construct, create! Are you afraid it’ll be boring? No, no, no. Nothing like that! You’ll dig the foundation, erect walls, insert windows or doors, and many more. It will not only be exciting, but above all, it will be fun!
Finish
You’re very proud of those straight walls and perfect roof… but it’s not over! It’s time to finish this pretty, little house. How? Of course, by polishing its exterior! It’s like putting makeup on a perfectly sculpted face. You can finish the elevation, do the floor or paint walls. Do everything you can to make this house splendid!
Community Builder
Leaving this creation to rot on your computer would be such a waste, right? That’s why we prepare something special for all our precious players - the Community Builder! This is a place where you can share your projects. You can also build a house based on someone else’s project. Show your creations, admire works of people from all over the world and meet other building freaks! Just share your passion and most importantly…
…HAVE FUN!

I've seen a cement spraying machine here in Czechia, so that's quite accurate. You supply it raw materials and it mixes them right on the spot as you spray. A bit tougher to set up but worth it on larger building sites. And yes, plaster boards do get attached on metal frames these days and you drill the frame straight in to the concrete.

My supervisor has been dealing with a contractor recently who started building a cluster of houses before drawing plans for the sewer to serve them. Original plans that allowed for construction to even begin had the houses connecting to an existing manhole and sewer main - which were removed during construction to make way for one of the houses. Contractor is currently having to pay for hotel stay for a buyer who can't close on their *finished* house until it's connected to the not-yet-installed sewer.

Also, the shims for doors and windows are absolutely necessary to ensure they're plumb so that you don't have sticky doors or windows that don't work. Also, they allow for you to pull off the trim and adjust them after the fact to ensure they're right if you're having trouble with them.

You make sure its all level and not warping we pack, the packers underneath, they come in tonnes of sizes but from memory I used to just order the boys like 5 sizes. I worked for a major glass and aluminium place in aus for awhile after highschool, went back to mechanics after though. But I was incharge of inventory. Done quoting/engineering of where windows/doors can go inc profiles of the aluminium extrusion, glass type and thickness etc. Also learnt how to make them and install them. Plan was to be sent interstate to help setup a new branch...I had a car accident instead, lost my job the when I recovered when back to my trade, mechanics. Done a few jobs over the years to further my skill set.

Those profiles used for partition walls, are in fact made of steel, if anyone is curious about it. As far as i know profiles on the edges, which are holding whole structure, are thicker, than the rest. Fun and knowledge with RCE and friends. ;)
