The Stranger is watching you … again.
Five years after her own terrifying baby-sitting ordeal, Julia Jenz (Jill Schoelen, The Stepfather) is trying to put her life together when the past comes back to haunt her. Someone is breaking into her apartment, moving objects around and toying with her. The police think she's just a hysterical coed, but student advisor Jill Johnson (Carol Kane), similarly victimized thirteen years earlier, is determined to nail Julia's stalker. Retired detective John Clifford (Charles Durning), who saved Jill's life before, must find and outwit the culprit before it's too late in this riveting sequel that reunites writer/director Fred Walton with the stars of the original When A Stranger Calls.

Such an underrated film. Fred Walton’s pacing and build up of suspense is powerful. But what makes this movie stand out is the ‘quiet creepiness of it. The slow unveiling of the psycho...plus much of the movie is filmed in nighttime scenes which makes it even scarier.

I always thought that Jill was a very good actress, I especially liked her in The Stepfather. She was in many, many things back in the day. I always wondered why I haven’t seen her in movies or TV lately. People should be hiring her left and right.

I love this franchise. Jill and Carol are so underrated in horror conversation. A taste for those types of classic horror is lost on young people, aka my friends

A very great, underrated, horror, classic. Seeing Charles and Carol together was a special reunion. You truly felt they had been through a trauma together and a strong bond had remained.

I may be wrong but she had a role in that was then this is now, she played Angela Shepard. She had to cut her hair short for the role. I’m not sure if the haircut was with her real hair, but it may have been. I don’t know.

I always felt that it was to show how little Julia was 'thinking ' of her appearance at the time. She was immersed in guilt & it shows.

I love how the film makes you (literally) piece together.....& truly think about psychopath William Landis' motives. ***spoilers ahead*** He is obsessed with control, every action he takes with his victims is for this purpose. He kidnapped those children to show not only Julia...but the entire wealthy family that they were NOT safe & secure in their house, that HE was in control. His plans to get Julia that night as well were thwarted.....as they amazingly were later on as well. But she still suffers plenty.....as does everyone Landis comes in contact with. While a couple scenes stretch incredulity, they never fail to chill! I've been thinking of this film ever since it came out.

What was the deal with the hairstyle, though? Honestly, the first time I saw the film, I thought part of the twist was that she had discovered as a result of the experience that she was a lesbian... of the 80's.

I always assumed it was a bad wig. Her hair was short like in the beginning, but they wanted her to look like she was older and time had passed, and put on that ugly wig.

I always felt it was to show how 'little' Julia cared about her appearance after that horrific event, that she may even have been making herself more unattractive on purpose to atone for her guilt.

That scene with Charles Durning is great, Jill is so good and so genuinely moving and affecting, really honest, brilliant acting. The sequel is less Hollywood and trashy than the first movie. Jill is too old to play the teenager at the start, and her haircuts/wigs are horrible, but if you like Jill Schoelen, you have to see it just because of her performance, she really is superb in it.
