    @@dayhillbilly Even Djokovic worked on his serve when he was way in his 30's, why do you think he engaged Ivanisevic as his coach in 2019? The serve is one of the easiest things that can be worked on as 20 year old as Alcaraz.

    Fun fact that no one asked for: I was at the Murcia challenger that year and watched Carlos lose to Rudolf Molleker the next round in three sets in a thrilling match in front of a packed crowd. Molleker was considered a huge talent back then at age 18 and already in the top 200, but sadly for him it never fully worked out for him. I can only encourage all tennis fans to buy challenger tickets, it’s a great opportunity to watch the next big stars from up close, and even talk to them at times, for very little money. Much harder to watch players like Alcaraz live nowadays, and much more expensive too

    @@yomismo74 I know, won Prague two weeks ago and is playing decently again, but considering he had tour level wins at age 17 over Ferrer on clay and Struff on grass, and a positive h2h against Alcaraz, Ruud and Hurkacz I don’t think even with his improved form he’ll ever get anywhere near to where he could have been. Used to have the best backhand on the entire challenger tour as a 17 year old, and being ~200 at 22/23 is respectable, but it’s not like he’ll be top 20 in two years. Just never took the next step, no variety, no volleys, backhand somehow declined and forehand still shaky in big moments and not too suited for hard courts. His ceiling just isn’t as high anymore, although he had some good wins this year over Maraszan (2x) and Galan plus a Challenger title

    @anustart-loveeachother7680

    It’s not that uncommon for 15/16 year olds to be playing challengers, although it’s not an every day occurrence. FAA played his first at 14, and young and upcoming players like Debru or Fonseca were 15 too. Carlos first came into the spotlight when he beat seasoned challenger veteran Gaio on the Futures tour at age 14, he was already on the radar and ATP ranked as a 15 year old. There are quite a few ATP ranked 15/16 year olds out there, like Darwin Blanch, Fonseca, Bogaard, Dedura Palomero or Engel for instance, so it’s not that weird to give them wild cards for challengers after taking their first steps on the futures tour. Martin Landaluce even played a main draw ATP match last year in Gijon, without even having an ATP ranking, based on his junior US open win a month earlier, it’s always been that way that the most promising youngsters get wild cards and can skip a lot of the hard grind on the futures tour, provided they are good enough, that’s the benefit of being very good at a young age

  • @Domms

    @Domms

    8 ай бұрын

    obviously so, most futures tournaments are a shitshow with terrible conditions but when you're good enough at a young age and your club is hosting a challenger event, you can get a WC. Happens a lot but yes I would say 80% of the top 10-20 ATP players never played a futures tournament in their life because they got carried to Challengers directly

    "Carlos Alcaraz can be considered the best player in the world at age 20". Yeah no, he's the 2nd best player in the world right now. And his no.1 spot was never because he was actually the best but because the actual best player wasn't allowed to compete in a few tournaments... He's closer and closer though, very impressive.

    The rankings are based on accumulated computer points. Carlos achieved that, so he was the actual best player. Djokovic wasn’t denied entry into any tournaments. He just decided not to follow the rules. He decided not to compete, it was his choice. Choices have consequences.

    Alcaraz is the new "product" of the western tennis...the marketing around this boy is outstanding. He has to beat the serbs and russians...that is the goal of the western media.

    But he's not the best player in the world. Remember Djokovic was barred from the US open last year which means he has no ranking points from that. There is no doubt that he would have won at least a couple of rounds and those points would make him number one NOW.

    @tomasreznicek not another derranged Joker's hater who for some reason doesn't believe in facts and lives in a la la land. Facts: like him or not until some one wins 24 grand slams, Joker is the best tennis player in the history of tennis. I am sure if Alcarez stays injury free ,he might have some say in this. Deal with it.

    NOVAK IS No.1 AND THE BEST IN THE WORLD LET’S NOT FORGET THAT!!! ETCHED IN YOUR MIND THEN I MIGHT START LIKING YOUR VIDEOS. Alcaraz is definitely a future of the tennis but he has a long way to go. I personally like him a lot and I know that he will earn it because he already show maturity and humbleness unlike you. Let’s give credit to Novak for everything he accomplished!!! As far as Alcaraz is concerned my only concern is injuries… without them he will definitely go far but not as far as Novak.
