Wheelchair Accessible Trail - Tom Branch & Indian Creek Falls in Great Smoky Mountains National Park

So, while we were on our mini-moon last week, we Googled some accessible trails near Asheville, NC and ventured to one an hour and a half West near Bryson City in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park.
It turned out to be extremely accessible from the parking lot to Tom Branch Falls. Now there were other Falls further down the trail but not all were as accessible based on Google reviews. We did make it to Indian Creek Falls but they weren't as accessible unless you're ok with some steep and little rougher terrain.
Tom Branch Falls were only 0.2ish miles from the parking lot and I believe Indian Creek Falls were only 0.8, making it a total of 1.6 mile roundtrip to see both.
In this case, a powerchair would be ideal and doable if comfortable with more some rough areas as seen in the video.
Enjoy and let us know if you've ever visited this trail or enjoy finding other accessible trails!!

Looked like you had a good time. No way my shoulders would let me push my wheelchair that far. I’ve got tendinosis and impingements in both shoulders. I normally use my SmartDrive if I’m going very far, but it doesn’t do well on soft dirt or loose rock trails. But, it allows me to still use my manual wheelchair. I have a power wheelchair too, but I hate it with a passion. I have a FreeWheel too, but I don’t use it a lot as it feels unstable. I think their is another one out that you have to put 4 clamps (two on each side) on the frame of your wheelchair and it clamps into them and it looks very stable. Best wheelchair I have is my WCMX Box Wheelchair using the SmartDrive with the Switchcontrol buttons in latched mode. My Box Wheelchair is a little heavier then my TiLite, but it’s a lot more comfortable to sit in all day, easier on my body when going over rough terrain or up/down curbs and is easier to self propel.

I have a smart drive but find myself never using it! The watch sucks. Think I need to add the switch controls.

Wheelchair Living Yea, I agree about the watch. I have both the original PushTracker and the E2, but the batteries are dead and they are in a drawer in my dresser. I didn’t like either one of them at all. The Switchcontrol in latched mode was a game changer for me. I’ve been taking two of my dogs for walks the last few days (several blocks/miles). I push the button (Switchcontrol) to get to speed and then let go and the SmartDrive keeps pushing at that speed until I press the button again to stop it. I even use the SmartDrive in latched mode going up the ramp into my minivan. I have a lot more control of the SmartDrive with the Switchcontrol and no more hurting my wrist trying to start/stop it. The Switchcontrol is directly attached to the SmartDrive via a wire (plugs in same place the charger does), so no Bluetooth issues and the only battery you have to worry about is the SmartDrive itself. My WCMX Box Wheelchair has full suspension, the front castershave a spring and I have Fox Shocks like what would be on a off-road bike on the back. When I put the SmartDrive on my Box Wheelchair the Switchcontrol would not work while on my wheelchair, but they did work if I took it off my wheelchair and held it in my hand. It took several phone calls to the Tech Support’s number, but we finally figured out that the suspension was allowing my wheelchair to push down on the connector when I sat in my wheelchair which was breaking the connection. Max sent me a universal camber tube clamp which lets you connect the SmartDrive at a lower point and the problem was fixed. I use it outside on the roads around my house (The sidewalks are not wheelchair friendly) for several miles almost everyday.

@@WheelchairLiving1 Anytime my friend! Always looking to support fellow content creators with a passion for the outdoors. I also use a GoPro Hero 8 and the stabilization has been awesome to take on the trail. Looking at the Canon R or Sony A7 mark iii. Which would you go with? There is a ton of places to explore on my channel that might interest you. Would love to hear your feedback! Cheers

@@MetroOnTheMove I have the gopro 6 and was looking into upgrading to the 9. I haven't looked into either of those. I was considering the g7x mark ii or iii for vlogging but might be sticking to my phone for stuff like this. I'll check your stuff out for sure.
