    This was a under-handed, 11th hour ploy to keep the right from reverting back to Jordan's widow. They didn't even have it on the guide-it just appeared in the wee hours of the morning with ZERO advertising on FXX. Jordan's widow didn't even know they put it out until after the fact, and she sued for the bad faith-she recently won and got the rights back, hence Sony entered the picture. This production has nothing to do with what has happened in the last year...

    @Ben Siener when the age changed is not particularly important. I supposed to be technical the death of Lews Theron would be the end of the 1st age. The point still stands that the age of Legends would have looked more like this then Medieval representation shown in the graphic novel. The age the Legends is more like Fable 3, the second age is more Skyrim and leaves the third age looking like a mix of Renaissance Europe with a healthy shaking of feudal Japan.

    @Ben Siener Ah. I see. I made a punctuation error. That is supposed to say it was the age of Legends. Not it was the age of Legends?. With that said I'm still very impressed and highly pleased with the look of this. It gives the world a kind of Golden Compass feel which is how I've always seem that age in my mind. I would have been perfectly happy if this would have gone further and started the story of Rand in more of a Renaissance Festival setting flashing back to a more polished early 20th century feel.

    What the fucking hell? The acting was lackluster, Lews kept saying The Dark One´s name and why the fuck did The Dragon not destroy the world and raise Dragonmount in his despair and madness, you now, like he did in the books? This studio needs to pass Jordan´s legacy to people who cares for the story enough to give it justice, if not for the fans, then for the respect of the mans work and dedication up until his death, that brought us, in my humble opinion, one of the best fantasy epics written to date.

  • @thuzan117

    @thuzan117

    9 жыл бұрын

    Alexander Nielsen I'm pretty sure the breaking was caused by a variety of factors, partially it was likely the aftermath of the war of power and the rest was the result of saidin becoming tainted. Lews Therin did not break the world single-handedly. Though he did raise dragonmount. Also it is noteworthy that at least towards the end of the series, the Dragon did not seem overly concerned with naming the dark one, indeed, towards the end the dark one seems to have regarded him like an equal, at least as an adversary.

  • @AlexanderNielsen

    @AlexanderNielsen

    9 жыл бұрын

    thuzan117 Okay, sure the Breaking was a period of about 300 years, true, but Lews did create the largest mountain AND volcano on the continent, if not the world. From the Wheel of Time wiki: He (Lews) drew upon all that he could possibly channel, and then exceeded it, causing a bar of white-hot energy to descend from the sky. This pillar struck Lews Therin and atomized him, but also struck the ground where he had been standing. The blast, so hot as to flash-vaporize stone, tunneled into the mantle of the Earth and caused a volcanic eruption of gigantic proportions, creating Dragonmount. I do believe that might have had some kind cataclysmic effect on the rest of the planet. SPOILERS AHOY! Also Rand al´Thor can say the dark ones name without repercussions, as he transcends on Dragonmount, when he contemplates whether or not to fall into the dark ones power and let the world end, and decides to save the Wheel and have it keep turning. He becomes some kind of avatar of the Creator. Lews never did this, therefore he is actually just a man, whereas Rand is the "Messiah" if you will.

  • @thuzan117

    @thuzan117

    9 жыл бұрын

    Alexander Nielsen yes dragonmount may have had an influence on the world at large, or at least the local area, volcanoes are very destructive and super volcanoes are even worse. as for Rand al Thor naming the dark one and his ascendance well you have a point but it is also important to note that in his moment of transcendance he also reconciles the voice in his mind that his lews therin with himself, the two finally blurring together and him realizing that they were one and the same all along. also it's not as if naming the dark one makes you drop dead, it just draws his attention and in Rand's case early on causes him to momentarily lurch and be overcome with a sense of discomfort. during the breaking the dark one had just been sealed so it's quite possible that naming him would have done nothing, Rand after all named him the first time purely to prove he killed him, which he did not and was evidenced by the fact that there was a reaction. also in all fairness lews therin WAS seized by madness at the time.

    Diana Pahule It does, but it is actually made by the people that held the movie rights based on the books, there was a whole debacle about it when this came out, as a surprise to everyone and the rights was just about to default back to Jordan´s wife, if they didn´t do anything with it. Like making a shoddy and half-assed version of the prologue, using an old camcorder, confused and/or drugged actors and a script written by someone who barely glanced the source material. As luck would have it, it has just been announced (as in yesterday) that there will be made a series based on the books, made in collaboration with Harriet McDougal (Jordan´s widow), so there will most likely be made something of substance soon.

    No it doesn't. First of all in the Eye of the world Lews Therin said 'Where are you, my wife? Where is everyone hiding?' meaning he saw no one at all. Not to mention it should have always not been from Lewis Therin's perspective. Also his clothes are just all wrong as said in the prologue 'His clothes had been regal once, in gray and scarlet and gold; now the finely-woven cloth, brought by merchants from across the World Sea, was torn and dirty, thick with the same dust that covered his hair and skin'. Just something add it did not have the namesake of the prologue, the birth of dragonmount itself. Hell even if it was awful cgi it would still be better than him killing himself with a dagger. The acting wasn't to good either and why are they adding unnecessary lines and parts, like that hole doll bit. There was no point to that. The best version of this is the audiobook version read by Michael Kramer which if you haven't I would recommend you check out: in fact I am certain that you can find the audiobook version of the scene on youtube.

Ishamael is charismatic, irritated at the mental state of LTT, and also excited at the prospect of finally beating LTT. Is the hair color wrong for a couple of people? Sure. Were any of the characters casted with actors with a different ethnic look because "diversity" should trump good story-telling and paying attention to the source material? No. Is it long and could use some editing? Absolutely. Did they correctly explain the basics of how this world works, who's-who of major story/lore characters, and the overall conflict correctly? Yes!! Comparing visual media to written media is a pointless exercise. There are things you can get away with in a book that audiences for a movie or TV show can't. The dolls and hide-&-go seek game adds to a sense of dramatic irony as well hit the audience of the horror committed by LTT. This is called show, don't tell. In the books, it's necessary for the author to sometimes literally describe the scene for because you aren't there and not seeing it. Think of Jackson's LotR. Not 100% faithful to the books, but few can deny that it isn't what the world of Middle Earth would look and feel like. Did it have problems? Sure, Merry & Pippin and Legolas & Gimli are way too comedic. Legolas is practically invincible. Aragon has too much self-doubt, though it does add a little more depth to his character. That said, Tom Bombadil is a pointless character whose presence adds nothing to the narrative. The fourth hobbit who doesn't join the others is maybe interesting, but again adds nothing to the actual plot. Same with the Scouring of the Shire.

    @@patricklee8088 I disagree the dolls and the hide & seek to me personally just seems boring and useless, not to mention it is far more ere and horrific to have had Lews Therin walk through his palace with darkness and his dead kin surrounding without him even noticing (which would be show don't tell). Also if you want to talk about spirit, this was literally made so Red Eagle could keep the rights of WoT away from Robert Jordan's widow, not to mention it misses out so much. Lews Therin dying here seemed like almost a moment of clarity but in the book he 'Quickly he had drawn more of the One Power than he could channel unaided' and even more as he was 'Straining, he forced himself to draw more, tried to draw it all'. The audiobook tells us that everytime he said "Ilayne forgive me" or "Light forgive me" he was shouting in rage, he did not blame the Dark One no he blamed himself. This clearly shows they misunderstood the conflict entirely. Also Ilayne being blond is fairly important, not only is she called 'Sun hair' by Ishamael but also later in the series that fact becomes one of the first few moments Rand notices Lews Therin's thoughts as Rand talked about Elayne's hair which brought Lews Therin talking about how it reminded him of Ilayne's hair. In addition to all these problems comparing this to Peter Jackson's Lord of the rings trilogy is downright sacrilegious. At the end of the day that trilogy understands each scene at executes it to its best ability. Also it does look like Middle Earth while this does not like like the age of legends. Lews Therin here looks like a middle class man going to the office instead of the regale almost king like figure he was. The building is fine for its budget and Ishameal looks fine but Lews Therin is just awful. Honestly I feel as if you understand the source material just as much as these folk did. Ishamael was not supposed to be charismatic but instead imposing and unsettling in away. You have to remember this is the same man Rand, Mat and Perrin saw in their dreams, the man Rand faced at tarwin's gap, at Falme in the clouds and finally in Tel'aran'rhiod in the Stone of Tear where he slew Ishamael. Though in the prologue he is not supposed to have his eyes of flame he still was the same man. P.S. I never said this was the worst adaptian considering the WoT amazon prime show exists.

Perrin a thick, broad man. Dark, shaggy hair, and limbs like tree trunks. The cover art on the book i'm reading now shows Perrin to be about the size of tom cruise, with a blond mullet and an axe that just dwarfs him. and fucking Mat. You can't even see what color his hair is, he's wearing a fedora. the "sword tipped spear" he carries is just a fucking spear. And the medallion he wears is a bobcat. A BOBCAT. Wait Mat with red hair? where does that say? I can't find a single line about it being that colour. I thought the point was that Rand was the only one with hair that wasn't either brown or black in the two rivers.

    It's still in the works. The 'pilot' was really painful to watch, yes, but it was never intended to see the light of day. Since they've enlisted Rafe Judkins (Hemlock Grove, Chuck) I still hope it can be good.

    It did a fair job of following the prologue to start, cheap production values aside. I suspect they didn't have the budget to show the creation of Dragonmount. This is a throwaway bit of crap anyway, so it doesn't matter. Like the Star Wars Holiday special, it is just a bit of interesting history for Wheel of Time fans.

    I read all the books, and I actually liked this one episode it is very similar to the prologue, there are actually quotes from the prologue in this. I wouldn't mind these two reprising their roles.

    When this came out I was offended and I said it was bad. Then Rafe Judkins put his slashfic on Amazon. Then he showed us the atrocities he plans to commit on Season Two. Please come back, Red Eagle Productions. We want you to do the show, and we promise we'll watch it.

    @@NDenizen That's the thing. Even though obviously the budget was not here, and the writing and acting etc. was lacklustre and corny, it is still an attempt to tell the story of the books. The show seems to go out of its way to insult the story and characters of the books. Just unbelievable.

    The acting isn't that bad and the dialogue is pretty on point, almost directly lifted from the book with some minor alterations. If they had better costumes, sets, and a decent effects budget to properly depict Lews Therin blowing himself up, it could have been a very strong adaptation.
