    There was a lot of trauma here in this episode, but I noticed 2 absolutely wonderful things that happened: 1- Nynaeve and Elayne hold hands to support each other for what they will need to do and 2- the renewed resolve showing in Egwene's face before it cuts to credits, just because the woman in the cell next to her finally speaks to her, trying to give her comfort. Hard episode to watch, but oh my.

    I think I've come around to the interpretation that Alanna &co aren't stupid, they knew Lan could never be a darkfriend but that he has a secret, and they knew that nothing short of a credible-seeming accusation of being a darkfriend would get him to say what the secret was.

    Can't we just admit that they've just screwed the pooch with Lan and accept that a bad scene and bad story arc is bad and not try and twist terrible dialogue into something it's not.

    Thank you for a great review. Like you say its disturbing stuff but amazingly well acted. When I watched it a second time I found the scene where Egwnene is forced to burn down the tree very interesting. Renna is exstatic at being able to connect to such a powerful channeler and Egwene is disturbed but I could have sworn she looked very thoughtful for a moment when she studied Renna. Almost like she might be figuring out that their connection felt very much like something else she has experienced before. Could this be the first clue she has in the sul'dam secret? Perhaps Renna will rue the day she linked with Egwene like that. Also its very true to the book that Intgar's priority is recovering the Horn (reasons to be revealed) where as Loial barely cares about the Horn now that he knows Egwene is been captured. Last but by no means least, considering who Liandrin's new patron is and what she wants can you imagine how absolutely revolted our favourite red sister will be if she's told she had to protect a man who can channel?

    I called the suspected darkfriend Lan last episode. We as book watchers probably know Lan better than Alanna and co really. If you focus on the info they had Lan the potential darkfriend is a clear possibility. Clearly they aren’t 100% certain or they would have killed him without giving him a chance.

    Neutered is probably a strong word but it definitely feels like they had no idea what to do with him for this season and the scenes they ended up making are definitely somewhat a departure from the Lan of the books. If I had to guess I would say that they wrote what they wanted Moiraine to do this season, realized that Lan barely fit in with that vision up until the next episode (7), so they just kinda gave him this lukewarm plot. Ideally now that all of the characters are more or less where they need to be they can stick to the books a little closer now going forward

    They _Really_ need to hire a better fight choreographer. Every single fight has been ridiculous, but this one was the worst. For the number of people who came to attack a single woman and her warder she seemed to have an ample amount of time to do whatever she wanted.

  • @MalkierTalks

    @MalkierTalks

    I disagree, the warriors were focused on her Warder, the Suldam & Damane were focused on the Aes Sedai. The fight was good between the warriors & I don't see how a fight choreographer could help a one power fight? Did you see the fight scene in ep3, same choreographer. You can't say they don't know what they're doing, that battle was phenomenal

    @@MalkierTalks and I disagree about the other fights as well. They were all poorly done, relying on the camera and lighting to fix the lack of grit. Most of the time we can see the opponents milling around. In Aviendha's fight, we have several occasions where she blantantly fails to make any contact and the guy flies off. It is a recurring issue since season 1. The Witcher had good fight choreography. WoT does not.
