Wheaton Youth Center Reunion March 7, 2009

This was a great day--a reunion of one-time teenagers who hung at the Wheaton Youth Center in Wheaton, MD (built in 1963) and attended many concert and dances in the 60s and early 70s, sometimes with now iconic rock bands who were just starting out. The original invite solicited anyone who may have seen Led Zeppelin's first local appearance on Monday, January 20, the night of Richard Nixon's 1969 inauguration. This story had assumed folklore status, with man disbelievers. www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...
Some claim they were there, while most just recalled other bands, or the good times in general www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...
Ultimately, I gathered stories for a feature documentary that I started screening in January 2013 www.ledzeppelinplayedhere.com/ write jeff@jeffkrulik.com if you want to see it

Sadly, this is all we have left of the Wheaton Youth Center, torn down for green space in 2016. A new modern combo library/rec center opened in its place in 2019. A google search for 'Wheaton Youth Center' will bring up many links covering the debate, and final fate, but I'll just leave you with the historic preservation office report, of which my reunion video contributed to

I attended the Zeppelin concert with three friends from Annandale. Very memorable evening, hilarious how it fell into myth

The whole point of this scene was for the parents to have some time alone together.
