whats wrong with it? - LLandegla MTB Trail Guide One Planet Adventure

Спорт

Degla has been around for a while but with Wales reopening to us foreigners and a brand Mondraker ebike to go test I thought it was the perfect place to check out again.

It’s my local so we’re there a lot, they are putting in a great deal of work repairing worn out lips etc on jumps and generally improving the place. It’s not a bike park it’s a trail centre so it’s bound to be more mild than some other places. Climb only takes about 25 mins on a trail bike 🤷‍♂️ and a full blue about 40 on max attack. You need to use a bit more turbo mode 😉

Nice vid & worth a watch as always, think it gives a pretty good idea of what someone should expect if they've not been there before. Regarding the view that it's not the 'gnarliest' place around, to be fair that has never really been Degla's thing. I agree that the Black runs are similar to other places Red's but what Degla is in my view is a fun blast which offers something for people at most skill levels. I live 15 minutes from the place & ride it all the time (well I will do now again it's finally re-open!) & usually have a decent ride there. That said I've come across a few people over the years dragging DH bikes around the place whinging about how crap it is... Also I did smile at the bit where you flew straight across the road crossing with the prominent stop signs on, don't think I've seen anyone even slow a bit down there.... ever....

Great Video. I think most jumps at Llandegla are poorly made and sometimes I feel cheated but you can see this in the Free-ride area. However all the other weaknesses are also its pros as its a very easy course and pretty much anyone can enjoy every trail. I just want some more technical stuff 😂

I find Degla an odd one. It's definitely not for you if you go to Dyfi or BPW or Revs. Black runs are definitely very mild and the jumps aren't great BUT it's not really that kind of place. If you love XC mixed with a little adrenaline then it's for you. There's a lot of pedaling with short downhills but if you're local you'll get mire out of it but a one and done visit you may be disappointed.

Hey I went to LLandegla yesterday and did the red trail and there were no challenging drops. I only go to trails 4/5 times a year so I'm no expert. If you do go in the skills area there is a drop section with 3 graded drops. The middle grade is similar to what you find out on the trail.

Your making llandegla seem really bad and easy. It's an amazing trail centre at a good place to get to. If you want a challenge do the tough free ride zone and tough parts of the skill area. Llandegla blacks offer challanges maybe just not as hard as places like Cannock chase. It's brilliant

Let me get one thing straight, so far I'm 3 minutes into the video and want to point something out. You said after the initial climb there's only a few short climbs, that's wrong and so wrong. Unless you fell asleep and carried round on a stretcher you would be aware of the mammoth last climb of around 3/4 the way through until the bitter end. Bitter end is an understatement and no wonder there's so many e-bikes there.

@@richardjones2811 I’ve got an ebike. And it all depends on how you use it, you can be really lazy and run on full power =no really cardio exercise, or you can do what I do and run on minimum support and only use on steep climbs. I did 21/2 hr ride last night avg heart rate was 141 and max 171 so I do think I’ve got some cardio work out as was out of breath a lot! We are no all the same, and we have all our reasons for having an ebike. Trust me if I was 21 again( am 54 woman) I’d be on a stump jumper! I live only 15 minutes away and used to go there a fair bit when I first moved to the area. However, I was always disappointed with it. Is previously lived near Nant y Arian really enjoyed their tails. My main gripes were that everything seemed poorly maintained: trails were really rough with pretty bad holes, puddles and cambers, and that was especially true on the blue and reds. I also found that the red and blue were extremely rough for the majority of it and riding on a hardtail wasn't much fun. Weirdly, the black was easier because it was much smoother. Many of the 'downhill' sections were pretty uninspiring with few rollers or kickers, and the few little jumps there were were weirdly spaced out or placed so often didn't work. Finally, the climb/reward ratio was very poor. I didn't mind the initial big climb, though it was annoying not to have a smaller loop available, but there are (were) many rubbish climbs that would lead to nothing: You'd spend 5 minutes climbing just to roll down a boring track to the bottom of another similar climb. I haven't been for a few years now due to covid/work/kids, but I'm hoping the work they've done recently will have improved things a fair bit.

Not a fan of Degla, Bit of a 1 trick pony.. Jump, berm, singletrack, hill, repeat.. You would think they would mix it up a lot and build features that are in the freeride line or the skills park on the main trails.. Then it would be a sick place to ride..Atleast at Cannock theres stile cop to play about on.

  • @johnlever6696

Went today and it was bloody awful. We did the complete blue line because there was a low skilled lad with us and the complete thing was a waste of time and not worth the over an hour it took to get to the top. There wasn’t enough down time to make up for all the climbing. The stone they use for the trail is massive so it wants to knock your teeth out on a hard tail. Once at the bottom we packed up and went home feeling it wasn’t worth the climb back up. What ever you do, do not do blue. Stay with at least the red.
