I've always loved Ann Sothern. Growing up I enjoyed watching "Susie" and "The Ann Sothern Show" when they aired on Nick At Nite. Such a beautiful, talented, and over looked actress.

One of my all time favorite actresses ever. So watchable. And so very good. One person who I wished could have lived ever! I liked her so very much.

Beth nice compliment...It's unbelievable I only just discovered her by accident watching the movie Cry Havoc early 2018 on TCM at first I thought she was Joan Blondell and since then I cannot get enough of her...She was truly one of the brightest star to ever shine in Hollywood...Simply Love Her..!!

She was what one called a "real doll" in the best possible sense. Beloved by so many. Very humouristic, naturally beautiful, and teeming with life!

What a great lady, and so talented. She was much beloved, with good reason.

In her role as Susie McNamara on Private Secretary (which ran 1953-1958), Sothern played the first working woman on an American TV sitcom.

Thanks for posting all these What's My Line? episodes. I used to get GSN but don't anymore, and this was my favorite show at the time. Great fun to see the program again.

While it's wonderful to see the beauty of Miss Sothern once again it would be even better if the sound were louder so I could hear what was being said, also.

Her last movie appearance was "The Whales of August," which was also the last for Lillian Gish and nearly the last for Bette Davis and Vincent Price.

Ann Sothern was a gorgeous girl, and she had a terrible time keeping her weight down for the camera. She and Lucille Ball were BFFs.

Something about Ann Sothern's eyes always reminds me of Agnes Moorehead.

Under her real name, Harriet Lake, Ann Southern began her movie career in 1929, largely playing brassy showgilrs (such as "Mazie" in a series of films). She starred in two TV series: "Private Secretary" (1953-7) and "The Ann Southern Show" (1958-61). Illness during the latter caused her to put on weight around her hips. She tried to hide it by standing behind desks and sofas but finally gav e up working onscreen. In 1965-6, she was the voice of the car on the sitcom "My Mother The Car."

I admit to not knowing very much about Ms. Sothern outside of the TV show 'Private Secretary' (which was still shown in syndication in my youth) but she is quite a peach on this show. I do see the Agnes Moorehead likeness- not only in the eyes, but in the almost nasal speech. Quite a dish in basic black here. Thank you.

A VERY smart lady. She engineered her own T.V. series deal and kept control over the show when few women even imagined that. As she faced a weight gain from health issues she began dressing all in black in the show but very attractively. She could make any script better with her performance.

That " are you blonde at least at the moment " joke was used quite often on this show. Also, it's pretty interesting that in those days most Hollywood actors were assumed to be connected to Broadway Shows or night club acts at some point. Not all, but most were where as today, most are not really connected to either.

@perlster following user: soulierinvestments: "Some mystery guests want to bamboozle the panel and others wanted the panel to recognize them." It was unbelievable hard to guess her (the panel required 3mins & 40sec.) despite her voice wasn't moduled. In case of Doris Day (What's My Line 1957.09.08) the panel required 1min & 2sec. despite Doris voice was mudulated.
