Hi there, greatings from Australia! Not sure if you're interested in Australia's current market for mk1 and mk2 Audi TT's, as it's certainly not comparable to the UK's market regards volume,....but I'll tell you anyway 😂 Approximately 2500 mk1's were sold in Australia between May 1999 and early 2006. No idea how many are still on the road, but currently there are about 30-odd mk1's for sale on reputable sites throughout Australia, and the prices range from AU$5,000 to just shy of AU$26,000, the latter for a 2003 225 roadster that's only done a staggering 27,400 kms! The former is for a 180 that's done 271,000 kms. Pricing is quite evenly distributed with no clear divide between the TT 180, 225, TTS and the 3.2's. There's a preference for automatic transmission in Australia in general, so most of the mk1 and mk2 TT's on sale reflect that, unfortunately. The more prevalent pricing for a mk1 225 is around the AU$10,000 mark. Parts for Mk1's are ridiculously expensive in Australia, and it's sometimes still cheaper to buy them on Ebay from UK or Europe and ship them over. I've personally done that many times and have had all sorts of bits from UK (mainly) Europe and even the USA. In Australia there's largely no real issue with rust, so that's one large consolation. My mk1 TT is a 2003 225 (manual) and the body condition is near pristine for having 214 ,000km on the clock (roughly 134,000 miles). I've recently virtually replaced the entire interior (trims, carpets, roof liner and seats) with items collected 2nd hand from overseas to replace the sun damaged set in my car = one downside of living in Australia and owning a car that's been in the Oz sun for over 20 years! Another down side is transporting a car that you may have bought interstate. For example, if I were to purchase a car in Victoria and want it sent to Far North Queensland, you'd be looking at about AU$2,500 to AU$3,000 for the haulage, not including insurances, etc. Regards mk2 TT's: there are currently 70 -odd for sale currently, so about twice that of the Mk1. Mk2's are priced from AU$12,000 to AU$32,000. The cheaper end is for a 2L with 161,000kms on the clock and the dearer end for a fully loaded TT with 51,000kms on the clock. Maintenance on TT's remains on the higher end as most European cars in Australia are considered "prestige". Hope you found my anecdotal information about the TT market in Australia useful. I agree with all your points Dom, only thing I would add that I feel is dragging prices down of the mk1 especially is the condition of most that are up for sale currently, so many unloved TT’s are for sale at prices that breakers would probably pay, hopefully once these all go prices will rise again, however that might take a while

Hmm, interesting video…. Regarding prices, it’s exactly the same as what P38 Rangies went through about 5 years ago, basically too many examples available and not many being broken, so second hand parts get pricey, (have you seen how much Mk1 TT parts have gone up lately!). Then, give it a year or so, it then becomes expensive to get parts, so more cars enter the breakers as a consequence, parts then get cheaper as the demand drops.. Then the market settles down, when it reaches its level (as in MGB’s, Morris Minors etc) Given that, I rhink TT prices will be low for both mk1 and mk2 for at least the next couple of years, if not longer…

Picked up a 2001 225 roadster with 91k for £400 through BCA paddock wood last month. Clean car with history. Xenon’s bose and factory Nav. Bargain and my mate had it off me for £1000. Car prices have come back down to earth after the covid bubble. Plus we had interest rates go up, energy bills and food etc. People that had spare cash to have a toy don’t really have that anymore. So welcome back to reality people.

It cost me £610 with fees. Anyone that bought a car over the last 2 years paid over the odds unfortunately. It’s certainly a buyers market now for sure. And it will be like this for a while now.

You dont come across Mk1's often with less than 90-100k miles on very often and when you do they are not cheap, i would say you have done well

Great video and review of the market state Dom. Prices are so low right now in the UK and a lot of unrealistic prices on listed cars. That Red 3.2 for £10940 was the one I highlighted the other week in the low mileage cars video. Its got a US spec bumper on it so not sure its as "OEM" as it claims to be!

Trying to buy a 3.2 DSG Coupe atm and have been very tempted by the value that the MK2 offers but I just don’t think it will hold its value as well as a good MK1. Very few really well sorted cars out there at any price but you need to pay at least 5k for a car with Timing Chain sorted, Haldex and DSG services up to date plus decent subframes. Very few are properly prepared, the best that I have seen on Autotrader (a manual) has 160k miles but looks much better than cars with half the mileage. Seems to be neither a buyers nor a sellers market from what I can tell.

Demand, there was more mk1 TT’s sold in the UK compared to any other European country.

Sadly, a couple of months ago I had to part with my Mk1 225 for scrap. It developed some issues around the same time and due to some parking controls being introduced where i live meant I couldn't park it. Most of the scrap value was in the original exhaust and wheels. It was fun while I had it , took a hit on the cost but, save on future costs.

That is sad to hear, I'm sure a lot of people having similar issues as more cars in more households now, and newbuilds don't allow for as much parking, who knows maybe you'll get another one in the future

Dom as you know, and been in it, I have the 3.2, I love seeing a 3.2 being broken, 1) for parts and 2) every time one gets broken😢it pushes the price of mine up.

Thanks for your update. Last summer I purchased a single owner from new black 225 quattro Cab 40,000 miles full Audi service history. 2003 . I had been watching it for an age and new that it was expensive It is immaculate and completely original essentially like a new car, garaged from new . I have replaced discs and tyres and had a full service as well as the front and rear torsion bars. It looks and drives essentially like a new car. I paid 9k for it but I just know its worth it to me and Im not selling anytime soon. I have been on some long journeys in it over the last 6 months and its has been amazing in every way. In my life. (now 62). I have been lucky enough to own four 911's, five M3's. it's the weirdest thing but I get more joy from this gorgeous small sports car than all of those very capable and some wouLd say much more 'superior cars. I originally had one from new in 2001 and stupidly sold it and always regretted it. Unmolested cars are now hard to find and I think it is this area of the market that will see the progressive increases in value over time with so many cars having undergone modification, not that I personally care. That's one of the highest accolades I've read for a TT. From someone who sampled the rival offerings and is thus able to form an informed opinion. When I purchased my TT in 2003, the nearest rival was an E36 M3. I came close to buying one but opted to get a 225 Coupe, which I still have. I have since bought a Boxster, but cannot bring myself to part with the TT. It would be like selling your wife.

Here in the U.S. MK 1's are going from $12 to $15K. Currently on, "Bring A Trailer," is a 2005 with 34K. I've now installed the USB port, key switched for the camera & GPS. See me grin and bow to the East for your great video.

Vehicle road tax doesn't even go towards the upkeep of the roads these days, it props up the NHS.

I just bought a 225 px to clear from a garage. Payed 1600 and spent 300 on repairs. I can only see these cars going up in value from this point onwards in the UK

Your in dreamland how long you planning to keep it keep it 30 years and then maybe just maybe it will be worth something. They are 1k cars maximum 3k for a MK1 even I wouldn’t pay more then 2k for one and they do not deserve to go up in price everyone seems to want the car they have to go up in price hoping to sell to get something better but that ain’t gonna happen the car is only worth what it’s worth best way to check what your car is worth is webuyanycar whatever they give is what I give people 👍🏻 as that is what people like to refer too these days saying webuyanycar will give me more on the ads

Great video Dom , for me I just don’t get why they are a cheap price. I have a Mk1 225 Roadster with 83k miles . Sits in a dry garage for 6 months then comes out for the weekend April to September. Heated leather seats , 6 speed box , turbo charged and a joy to drive around the lakes on a dry day. Not many 2 seaters out there for the price they are selling now.

They are cheap because they are a fake Porsche and if I was buying something like that I would buy a Porsche those TT are never ever going up so you can all keep dreaming 😂 even scrap garages laugh at you when you ring them with one of them they have so many parts already from them they can’t stock anymore

I totally agree with you about the road tax Dom and it's not just TT,'s. I've just just sold my MK1 roaster for 2800. It was a nice car with some mods, brake's, exhaust and a remap. I think I got good money for it. My circumstances have changed over the past 3 months and it just wasn't practical to run every day. I'll miss it. Keep up the good work.

As a Swede, it is difficult to understand that cars in the UK are so cheap that they are sold in parts. In Sweden, a 225 quattro costs approximately €5,000 to €9,000. 3-4 years ago you could buy them for about €2000-3000. So they just get more and more expensive here. Here, however, it is original cars that are the most expensive, modified ones are usually cheaper.

Audi TT for a lot of people are 2nd cars, weekend fun / hobby cars. People are up against it atm with rising costs etc, so lots of people having to sell them to raise some funds and or reduce their costs. That’s why prices are so low imo. Literally giving them away it seems. Garage repair costs are high too, so add that against current values, people are choosing to ship them on or break them rather than plough money into them, sadly. But….. A great time to invest I think!

Supply and demand. Less people at the moment willing to spend on buying a weekend car at this time. And due to uncertainty in all walks of life right now, people will not offer as much. It's a buyer's market, with way less buyers... I bought Doms red 3.2 in October 22 for 5.5k, it is immaculate and been pampered since... But if I was to sell it now I would probably get 3k coming my way. Need the economy and job stability to improve then there'll be a rebound.

I live in Sweden and looking at the used market right now the mk1 is ranging from 3500£-12000£ with the roadsters being in that top range between 8000-12000£. The MK2 I would say starts around 10000£

And I pay 250£ tax a year and I have full insurance (which some would say is unnecessary for such an old car but someone just backed into me with a towhook and I got a new front and grill for 200£) and I pay around 450£ for insurance a year

Wow sounds like Sweden has good tax and insurance costs, however I am surprised at how much the cars are to purchase but I guess there is not that many on the road in Sweden, do you see them very often?

The TT MK1 Roadster 150HP I'm looking at ( almost new condition) is 9500€. Comes with no scratch, new interior, full service history and 12 month guarantee .. The reason why the MK1 will become more expensive is because Audi could simply not equal the design of the MK1 with the MK2 and 3 !! Here in Belgium, MK3's are available at 20K !!

Like I said once, british prices. By far the cheapest Mk1 in Hungary that starts and runs is for £2000 and goes until £4500. As for Mk2 2.0 TFSI, prices in our region start from £6500 and go until the end of the atmosphere but usually stops at around £14000.

Thanks for commenting, that's quite interesting that the prices are not too much more than in the UK but I suppose being in Europe and close to where they were produced that helps keep the price is lower than some places

I paid only £2750 for a very clean well maintained mk1 180 that had just had timing belt & water pump, haldex service, all fluids even including brake fluids and it had just been fitted with new disks new calipers new Bilstein shocks, Eibach Springs, the dash cluster had been sent off and all sorted. It had all the nice bits like genuine cup holder and mint interior. Road tax is relatively low and insurance was low too. It's become my daily and I simply love it. It drives like a tight new car. All I've put into it so far is having the wheels refurbished and I swapped out the rubber for a full new set of Goodyear asymmetric 6s. Prices for these things are just stupidly low. If the practical side works for you I can't imagine a better choice.....

Just bought a Mk 1 2002 225hp in good condition for £1800, great car, 12 months MoT and fsh. Get one now, definitely recommend the 225hp version. The V6 is heavy and not that much faster plus tax is 695.

Just bought a 2002 225 Quattro for £950 yesterday. It runs and drives lovely and it’s got 5 months mot on it. But obviously it’s got its issues as it’s a 155k car but so far it’s minor things. Should mention it’s got Bose audio, the nice wheels and the cup holders which i don’t know if they are rare but it’s got them.

Hey Dom I can't believe how cheap tt's are right now what's happened I'm seeing them for £500 when before they were more than double that 😮

I currently have an extremely pampered mk1 225 for sale reluctantly @ £5,500 with 86k miles, FSH timing belt, haldex and recent service etc , everything works i.e nothing broken or expensive job looming etc etc. Even at this asking price taking into account my purchase price 2 years ago plus 2.5- £3k spent i'm at a considerable loss. Personally I think they are so much car for relative peanuts. I think people that sell them at 1-2k are absolute mugs unless they are running like a bag of nails with issues to infinity

Good cause we're always sell for fair money, as people will go and look at five or 10 crap ones advertised badly then when they come across a good one has been well kept they will buy with confidence I'm sure.

I have a 2004 Audi TT MK1 3.2 with 7800 Swedish Miles on the dash, this should be equivilant to 42,089 English Miles i believe, I am beeing offered around 10 500 Euros from 'car dealers' where private bids are a bit higher at the moment, around 12 000 Euros, that seems to be the case in Sweden at the time, Cheers

Kinda annoying that I can’t find anyone that talks about the 180. Love your content but leaving the 180 sucks cause it’s such a good car. Also most of the TTs he’s seen ARE the 180’s. If you’re wanting a good nick 225 expect 4.5 plus. The 1.5-2k ones he’s talking about are the 180’s and yeah, you should DEFINITELY buy one!

ULEZ, Road Tax and market availability plus a cost of living crisis is probably whats driving the weird price trend right now. I think with the mk1 vs mk2 pricing, I think ultimately we're starting to get into the age group now where we'll start to see the typical mk1 price premium creep in like so many other cars in the past like the E Type, 911, M3 etc I'd love it to be to that extent but thats highly unlikely to not at all but I think despite the mk2 being a lovely car it just isnt the original. And that'll probably be what any prospective collectors will start thinking about at some point - if there not already. But until all rancid ones are taken off the road I doubt there will be a huge upturn for the foreseeable. Unless cost of living prices significantly improve post general election

That's not the case at all. While they are much more expensive here in America than in the UK your numbers are a bit high. I bought a Mk 1 225 Roadster a couple of months ago, 84k miles, awesome original condition with good records for $7500. He was originally asking 9k but I waited and he came down.

This is interesting. I'm in the USA, and I've noticed that mk1 TT parts are much cheaper on eBay in the UK. I was tipped off by your videos 😆. I have yet to make an order, but for instance, I was looking at £200 per headlight for decent used headlights on USA eBay. I think I saw a decent set of two on UK eBay for ~£120. How many mk1 TTs were sold in the US vs the UK? There seems to be a TT meetup culture there that is non-existent here. That being said, even if we have the same number of TTs per capita, the much larger landmass means we're all spread out. £2000 or $2500 for a mk1 TT that isn't obviously cosmeticly and mechanically beat up, and with 160k+ miles on it, is unheard of in the USA. I'd guess £2300 or $3k is the bottom floor for cosmetically and mechanically "fair", but running, TTs that aren't salvage cars. There's the rare potential to get a good deal on a private sale on stuff like this is the USA because some older people may only check the Kelly blue book value, and that doesn't necessarily reflect the actual market value of an enthusiast car, i.e. different than a Ford fiesta with the same age and miles etc. Sometimes KBB seems in range, but when it's not, there are rare deals to be had. Probably so rare it wasn't worth mentioning 😆. I would guess $5500 is the floor for a TT in good cosmetic condition with ~100k miles. Prices are all over the place here too, but mainly because most are in terrible condition.

Everything is down at the moment Dom, my local Audi garage has 24k of an R8 at the moment, and even thing like GT3 Porsches which people just looked at as money making Purchases are losing money hand over fist. Most people have more important bills to pay (mortgage, food, heating etc.) than splashing on second cars, hence they’re down in price. Like all cars, they get to so low a value when anything no goes wrong they get scrapped, as to expensive to fix. When enough of them have gone in a few years the good stuff (QS;s, 3.2 Manuals) will hold their value hopefully, but who knows. I SORn y 2, and put them on off road insurance over the winter which certainly helps with the costs.

Old cars, that aren’t classics, cost money to keep on the road. I love my mk1 225. It is my daily drive and “hobby” money, which is a good job, because if it was my daily drive and I wanted “cheap and reliable” it would have gone 6 months after I bought it! But… it isn’t a classic. It’s an Audi TT mk1. Maybe the mk1 QS will be a sought after classic one day. PS. The shocks you sold me are running great with Vogtland springs and Compbrake adjustable rear control arms. (Awesome bit of kit from Compbrake).

Dom, you seem to have joined the dark side😉 nice moody lighting.....yeah getting fed up with the insurance costs (due to E.V. fires) and Road tax rises.....there is a petition out for that everyone should sign it. Needs some publicity....just why would you want a Mk2 😉😉😉 The general anti car lobby/govt/council agenda is what's bringing the market down.

The mk1's have gone down in price as you cant get original parts from audi anymore. Alot of the electrical parts your gonna have to buy 2nd hand now.

That's definitely a contributing factor for sure, the amount of parts that are no longer available is a nightmare

DSG V6 MK2’s road tax is £395! Manuals are on the higher tax bracket.

@The Parrot Bro's you ever replaced the fuel sender unit? I filled my tank up last week and it started spluttering around 3K rpm then refused to start the next day (was thinking I'd put diesel or something stupid in the tank) looked online and couldn't hear the fuel pump priming so decided to take the task on myself lol. The question is have you had to fit one before and did you struggle with that bit of plastic that needs clipping on whilst you submerge yourself in petrol? If so any tips ;-) PS my insurance is over £1000 i'm over 40

£1000 and you are over 40??? I’m 44 and pay less than £300 on a TT. £230 on a 3.0si Z4 coupe and £259 on a e46 325ci m sport convertible. You are being ripped.

@@haggismuncher4543 I had about 7 years as I didn't have a car for a while then two separate people hit me as oncoming traffic in my lane but it's always been around £800 I was paying that at 19 with a vw golf gti turbo so pretty much same engine. all the insurance companies charge me the same

Worth pointing out that a Mk2 3.2 with dsg falls into the lower road tax band😊

Damn...UK car prices are so much cheaper than here in South Africa... 😥 Here the mk1 TT's go for about between 3000£ and 6000£ (interesting this evening I just spotted the first mk1 sport I've seen here in SA going for 6000£) The mk2's and mk3' go for a lot more ranging from the cheapest mk2's at around 6600£ to the most expensive mk3's going for about 58000£ I myself bought my mk1 225 last year Easter for 3500£ with 91300 miles on the clock. Also had a full service history so...I thought it was a good deal... 🤷. (Also, I'm curious to get everyone's thoughts, I'm actually interested in getting that mk1 sport here, like I said it's going for 6000£ which is a lot but it's only got 60000 miles on the clock with a full service history -and it's a 2006 model. I wanna look at it at an investment standpoint considering how rare the tt mk1 sport is with there only being about 1100 made, who knows how many are here in SA 🤷. Anyway, let me know what you think 😁.)

A quattro sport in the Uk is £9-12k depending on if it has the pole position recaros or not, Id say for a nice 225 with good mileage £3500 isnt too bad, I bet parts are a lot more expensive for you though

@@TheParrottBros Yup, everything here is a lot more expensive when it comes to cars 😭. Luckily VW's are very common, especially golf's. And considering the TT shares a lot of similarities with a golf I'm hoping I'll be able to source parts that way if need be for my TT 😅.

I would suggest that it is not Just TT's , it is across the market place, weird things going on in the 911 world, the bubble has popped, and they are becoming more prevalent in the market place, then everyone is rushing to sell them. TT, were booming last year for nice low milers and were in the world of cross overs, ie, old cars that no one wants and selling for a grand, to a modern classic that everyone one wants for £8k, with decent cars at £5k, I had a mate buy and sell about 30 in the last two years, He advised the market cooled September of last year, and he stopped trading in them.Prior to that, he made a killing.

Don’t think the tax in the UKon mk1s is helping now. For a second car it hurts. Still got mine but it really hurts, add it to the insurance bill and it’s not really viable as a second car like you say. Shame as I love her as a machine.

Mk2 v6 is 675£ for manual and dsg is about £360 road tax a year due to emissions 🤷🏼‍♂️

They cars have got to the age where they need work. Some lots of work, the market is flooded with people selling cars. If you don’t know how to fix it they are mentally expensive to fix. People buy them cheap then get scared.

pensioners have all the cash so it comes down to what classic sports car they fancy to go with the tesla ( which they are stuck with ) . From what I can see Porsche has been winning out, which means there is a surplus of all other marks. The value buyer will always go for the mark 2 TTS

As it goes, most from Y registration upwards are Ulez so the bulk of Mk1 tt's are Ulez, the insurance, tax and cost of living is a killer for sure

Apparently according to stats there are almost an equal number of manuals to Dsgs. and they do come up for cheap prices depending on condition of course

@@TheParrottBros but what you see for sale the most seems to be by far the DSG cars, not manuals….?? I suspect when a DSG has a problem the costs are prohibitive to fix, or are people with manuals like me, who looked for a long time for a good manual, and now you have one, aren’t going to get rid of its anytime soon??

Not that much more powerful than the 225hp plus heavier engine. Road tax is ridiculous too.

@@andrewwaller5913 True, but having both a 3.2 and a 225, they do drive very differently, much more than you would think they would with only 15hp difference. It’s the torque really I think. And for my 2 it’s only £50 more for the 3.2 tax over the 225. That is dependent on the year of course.

In germany are a lot of right hand drive car for sale - most sell them for the parts. Uk prices are quit low.

@@TheParrottBros also you have to consider that we are in a recession now and the first thing to go is luxury and hobby items. Being as the TT isn’t a very practical car as no real rear seats. It definitely puts it into that more luxury (I want rather than need) over practical item category. That I believe affects it even further.

If you don’t like that prices are cheap and they won’t go up so stop dreaming get something you actually want instead of sitting there hoping for a price rise so you can get the actual car you want that’s usually when people complain about car prices not going up when they want to sell but you know your gonna lose 😂 you gonna lose either way unfortauntely you sell this and buy a Ford I think it’s better actually thinking about it a Ford goes for more then a Audi Tt
