I have one singular oc who’s a normal functioning human being living a decent life. His name is Martin and he’s a father of 2 who likes novelty erasers.

What I've noticed is that OCs often have a backstory that is a heavily exaggerated interpretation on the emotions that you have when you think about your present self's current state. OCs are also almost always designed around the traits that you idealize in a person.

I make self-inserts for every fandom I join. They usually end up being shorter, edgier, and more punk rock than me (I'm 5'2"). You hit the nail on the head with that one for sure.

I really wish I were creative enough to make real OCs like this. I get this mental block for trying to think of names and personalities that I just can’t get over. I draw things (badly), but I can’t even start on an actual character for what I draw.

If those kind of oc’s are called “punching bag oc” then i have a whole gym in my sketchbook💀

While most of my OCs fit into the fantasy category, a small handful of them actually came from self-inserts! One of my all-time favorite OCs is my first ever D&D character, Clio. She was an eladrin elf who, originally, I had made to look like and act like me, but I very quickly realized that she wasn't going to last long going down that route, so I scrapped the idea. I changed her entire design, tweaked the personality some, and gave her the tragic backstory™️ she needed. She went through a lot over the course of her campaign, changing even more from her original design, but I couldn't be happier ^^ Just for funsies, she went from being a kind and careful pushover devoted to her God to an unfiltered body of chaos who would spit in the face of her enemies if she had the chance. Too bad she was stuck on the back lines debating whether or not she should heal her party members 🤷🏼‍♀️

Can I just say I love how she doesnt put down anybody for the kind of oc they make and just overall makes people probably feel a lot better about the characters they're making.

All of my oc’s are unique and I always give them some peace in their story! Even my most traumatic one ends up having a good end, and I enjoy making little comics of my characters just messing around, and I also include myself as my oc that represents me. I feel like I really have a special connection with all of my characters, and I try to give them diversity and happiness. (God I’m making this seem like they’re real- but that’s just how much I love my oc’s) This video was fun to watch, and I hope you all have a good time! Everyone’s oc’s are awesome and unique, so never feel left out, you are wonderful as well.

I am a self-implementer. I usually give my characters the personality I wish I had and the features i wish I had TWT. Also, for me at least, this was scary accurate!

my specific character named spin [as seen in pfp] is a cartoon punching bag, its like, he can basically go through things that can actually kill real life people, but be okay because hes basically a rubberhose cartoon, yeah, sometimes he can feel pain for the comedy, but other times its like "oh my hand got cut off, eh, whatever, it'll grow back.", its not supposed to be 'powerful' much, cause all my characters can basically do that, its the power of cartooniness and rubberhose, but its so funny to me, i dunno why. I just made my main oc based off my fav things, somehow i made some weird aesthetic and backstory on the way of completing the oc. I change it so often that I made a big part of the story the backstory around her changing forms a lot. My favorite OC is a adorable bundle of chaos and spite. Sorta a punching bag but she dishes out more than she receives and the antagonists fear her for it. Total menace to society but is adored by her friends and family because they know she will literally glass the planet or fight and usurp a fire god for them.

you were literally just listing things about me when you were talking about the high fantasy oc. EVERYTHING applied to me i feel attacked

I love the young kids making edgy OCs. I think it's really cute when young kids explore darker themes through emo cats lol

@@AwoopEhe drawing certain things really has nothing to do with how you turn out in the future. Most people just draw edgy stuff either because •Their actually in a dark place, and needs actual help, and their drawings are what they pour their emotions into. •They want to be cool •it’s their style •Because of past things (aka me) They simply enjoy drawing stuff Drawing doesn’t predict what your personality will be. Has your sister experienced any trauma? Like bullying, abuse, etc? She’s probably in a dark place and needs help. I mean this in the most respectful way, but you probably shouldn’t be talking bad about her on the internet either.

Haha, my OCs are definitely the D&D type - especially since most of my OCs are "whatever I'm playing in a tabletop RPG now". I do have a tendency to make up reams of setting info and backstory for each character no matter what medium they're from though. For example, my current one is the heroine of what I would like to one day turn into a graphic novel - a gamer girl called Neko who gets transported to a fantasy world (which pulls a lot of inspiration from outside of the traditional Medieval European setting tropes and mostly derives from a mix of Indian, Persian, and Native American cultures) where she ends up piloting a giant magical robot. The setting is turning out pretty in-depth, as is Neko's backstory, and I have an outline for a complex and emotional character-driven plot. Funny enough... Neko had a "self-insert OC" for herself in her backstory!

Man, she really got me with the fantasy oc one.

i feel AWFULLY called out with the high-fantasy pretty boy OC (positively); you hit the nail on the head with describing what kind of a person i am/been told i am which is honestly sort of scary,, and the fact that i stumbled upon this video when im REALLY obsessed with one of my OCs who just started out as an experiment (also some facts about him because it feels wrong to not share it) - i accidentally self-reflected A TON when it came to his mannerisms/story, which i only noticed when i REALLY thought about it -he's an ex-royal (quite literally krilled his own father, nearly fell into the cycle of corruption and ran away in fear of becoming like his father, which left him with a pretty nasty mental scar) -im pretty sure im unintentionally putting him through some sort of existential crisis

I think its kinda funny how commen the "all their loved ones are dead" thing is, especially because I don’t particularly like watching my ocs suffer; my ocs rarely have scars, and only two of them are orphans (their siblings). I think its probably because I'm more of a geeky dnd playing artist (and yes I have hansome high fantasy ocs). I find I'm rather atached to my ocs, and I like to draw them doing normal day-to-day stuff, and they all have hobbys so i can draw them doing stuff. I dont really draw action scenes but i want to get better at drawing them.

I just love how she made the oc and their creators getting along like 😭

"They deserve at least one nice day." Hmm, good idea. Give them one good day, show them what happiness and normalcy feels like before ripping it away from them. Truly devilish thinking. I approve.
