What I learned from playing basketball for like 4 years straight almost everyday is when you swish a shot remember how it feels, muscle memory along with great mechanics is a great way to be good at shooting.

You commented this a while ago, but still: When I shoot the ball sometimes I can physically feel that my muscles are "perfectly aligned" or something, and I know the second the ball leaves my hand that it will be a swish. Still can't really recreate this feeling every time, but I'm on my way.

Yep definitely true. I don't play very often but when I do just have a shooting session on a court, I might find a rhythm and get 3 or 4 three-pointers in a row from trying to replicate the exact same feeling. Then I lose it after a while though.

Are u good at basketball now
Ive played tons of basketball and shooting has always been my specialty. They key is practicing good fundamantal mechanics and consistency. No matter the range, Consistent form. I always aimed at the back of the rim because most people end up short so if Im aiming for the front and I hit the front, I succeeded. I have heard both ways. Arc is super important. "Gotta get it up to get it in" is how I stays in my head. Either way, front or back of rim, get arc and always aim for the same spot.

Great, clear instructions as usual. I’m a back of the rim guy. My thought being that if I shoot short because I am already aiming for the back of the rim I still have a decent chance of scoring, and if I shoot long, hopefully I will get a bank and the backboard will bail me out.

I used to try to visualize dropping the back side of the ball on the front of the rim, if that makes sense. I didn't want the ball to land on the front of the rim, just have the back part of the ball graze that inside of the front rim as it was dropping through. I always seem to shoot a couple inches far so it was usually a swish. But when I'd see that rotation stop as the ball grazed the inside of the front of the rim I knew I was on.
Nice
My method is to drop the ball onto the center of the hoop. Imagine a crosshair dissecting the rim. You want to drop the ball onto the point where the lines cross.
I don't look at the rim from my angle, like straight ahead of me. That is an easy way to bonk it off the front. I see the rim as a flat plane and imagine that I'm dropping the ball into it from the top so that way I'll always have the proper height and arc. As far as aiming, I can't help with that lol.
Hey just a question,do u stop midair for a little bit to aim before starting to moove your hand and wrist and elbow?

Did you guys remove the beginners fundamentals drills video? I can’t find it anymore. Can’t find the intermediate one either.
Once my mechanics feels good going into my shot I usually make it. I don't really aim cause once I'm aiming I'm missing for sure.
Looking at the back of the ring opposite where I am works for me
nice
I always aimed at the backboard on top of the rim the white square
I'm glad he told me to aim for the basket, I was shooting it the wrong direction
Trying to drop the ball straight down in front of the back rim is the best look.
It gets me every time when people talk about finger placement, all of the finger placements shown are the same because the ball is a sphere. The line on the ball is just a concept only the follow through that matters.
Do not put your hand directly on the "bottom" of/behind the basketball when gathering. It should be slightly off center so that when you raise the ball (which naturally turns your wrist), the hand does end up naturally rotating and does in up on the bottom. Practice it slowly until you have a feel for where your hand should hit to accomplish this and you'll end up with a far more natural feeling shot that is easier to replicate.
On that second drill , should you keep one foot locked when you pivot?
@ILB
2 жыл бұрын
Correct! You want to pivot into your shooting position- much like a catch and shoot. And remember- the main thing with this drill is focusing on the rim, finding your target, and dropping it in!

Stop trying to put your shooting hand directly under the ball and your wrist flexibility will be just fine. Watch some videos on curry shooting in slow mo. He starts with his hand under the ball but to the side and then as he gets past his set point and goes into the shot his hand goes directly under the ball. That’s how pretty much everyone should shoot

You only shoot consistently with it is because you’re used to it. I guarantee if you train yourself to shoot without a thumb flick your shot will be way more consistent in the long run.

Thumb flicks don’t push the ball one way or other. Something else is going on in your shot. Curry and kyrie use em. Your thumb is off the ball before you start shooting towards the basket.

@@kevinsutube1p528 which is exactly why they push the ball left or right sometimes. When you go up for a shot you have the ball centered in your shooting hand (every1 will vary slightly) your off hand vome off the ball first and when it does the thumb flick will move the ball while it's still in your hand. Then when you finally do release it bc remember this is all happening really fast, the ball can/will be more to one side or the other causing the missed shots left and right.
