So Cubone's name is accidentally a pun, then, since Kyu Bon is celebrated in the Northern Kanto region (mapping the real world onto the game map, this would include such places as Lavender Town) and, interpreting its Pokedex entry figuratively, it's wearing a mask to commemorate its lost loved ones. I say "accidental" because that's only its name in English. Its Japanese name, _karakara,_ is an onomatopoeia meaning "a light clattering."
