Something that I recommend about the school ID: get a clear phone case and put you ID inside of it so you can just put scan the back of your phone and it’s always on you!!

For the luggage thing: We found when my older brother went to college that the easiest way to move clothes, bedding, etc. was to buy a bunch of the big blue IKEA duffles because they were cloth and collapsed super flat, so he was able to store them in his dorm without taking up too much room.

They also make excellent laundry baskets! Not every res in my uni had laundry machines, so you could be hauling dirty and clean clothes across the quad... and a hard plastic laundry basket takes up so much space!!!

I'm a senior in HS and am trying to figure out what I should bring for my dorm in the fall. When I heard ASU I was low key excited lol. It was one of my top choices, and thankfully I got in, but ultimately chose another school. LOVE the school though and this video is super helpful! thank you

she pretty much hit all the important stuff! although my dorm came with a fridge and microwave, so i’d check and see if that’s the case for you. portable heater and fan is a MUST. phone case pocket is also a must. one thing that wasn’t on this list that i’d recommend is a pair of sturdy slippers, ones with thick soles, like the UGG slippers. you will find yourself wearing them walking around your residence hall!!

Check with your college on what they offer you. My college does not allow things like portable heaters or tapestries. My freshman dorm had built in mirrors while sophomore year I had to have one. Also make sure the cord you bring has a surge protector because most colleges will confiscate the ones that don’t. I would also make sure you bring things that remind you of home like photos, because while you will be out making friends and such, you will miss people from home. I definitely recommend reading your res life agreement to find out what they do not allow and what they do allow before buying a ton of stuff. One of my friends was not allowed to bring furniture like a dresser while I was allowed to bring an entire couch into my dorm.

I have a week left before I move in, I’m watching all of these videos and watch I still forgot the important stuff 🤣🤦🏽‍♀️

As a college student, I agree with most of the things that she listed. Personally, I didn't use some of these things like a mattress topper, floor lamp, or steamer, just to name a few. Keep in mind that every dorm is different so check what you can have and what you can't. For example, my dorm would not allow extension cords so I had to hide mine. Also see if they provide a trash can. If not, get one. Point is, majority of these things are really good suggestions for first year students and check what you can have and what you cannot have.

the social security and health insurance card was a good tip!! i hadn't thought of that

You should do a storage video like showing ways to save space on your dorm

this really made me feel blessed. In my freshman dorm I just shared my bathroom with my one roommate, our sink was big enough for britas in the kitchen, and the school gives us a mini fridge with the separate freezer and a microwave. Also we had AC and heat in our dorm that we controlled just the two of us

YESSSSSSSSSS. As a college junior I can attest to the fridge thing. I got one with a small freezer and it’s “ok” if ur the only one using it but if anyone else is using ur fridge then get the one with the actual freezer. So much more room and u can actually have cold fresh foods! I had a health nut as a suite mate and I had no room in my fridge because of that. GET. THE. BIG. ONE. Also. Not everyone gives you a trash can. My college doesn’t. So make sure they have one for you before you go unless you want to just use a trash bag on ur floor until the trash cans are back in stock at Walmart

To cut down on cleaning supplies try Norway! It saved my life. Cleaning with water only, the cloth has silver and something else in it that will even clean up raw chicken bacteria. The Enviro cloth is amazing! Highly recommend! Room saver and money saver too!

These are all super great tips, but one of the biggest tips imo is don’t overpack. It’s really hard to gauge what you’ll actually need and what you don’t, but just try to use your best judgement to bring as little as possible. It’ll not only keep your room neat and avoid fights about space with your roommate, but it will make move out soooo much easier.
