Personally I'm all for "Splatoon-Likes" becoming a thing. The problem is that this specific example is... god it's so hard on the eyes, I don't even care about the copied specials the main problem is that I can't even look at it.

They really need to darken the colors, not only is it just too bright but you can't even see what is going on. It looks like your supposed to use the foam to build your elevation advantage but I just can't see any difference in hight because it all looks the same.

Totally agreed... The unfortunarte fact of everything being a mess of foam that seems to build up and create the walkable terrain?? mixed with everything being a pastel off-white, and most of the projectiles being massive screen-sized bubbles that aren't see-through. I can hardly tell what's goin on, let alone pinpoint another player among the chaos.

the only thing i see being unqiue is that theyve made the maps a bit more flat and basic to encourage players to paint and stack foam for verticality of their own making as the match goes on, which is pretty neat. other than that this does just seem like square enix looking at splatoon and going "we can do that too 😤" without the charms of splatoons established aethetics and world

i would be fine with the idea of shooting bubbles and building walls as combat, i think it takes the bare bones of splatoon and puts a solid twist on them. the problem i have is that they showcase 11 weapons that are blatantly adapted from splatoon (10 specials and something that looks similar to sloshing machine). if they had more unique specials then it would actually look like they tried but clearly they did not

Honestly this game does genuinely seem neat. The 3D aspect of the foam is interesting and the style has potential and stands out. It's just too bad the splatoon comparisons are probably gonna kill it, cause it's being compared to a franchise that knocked it out of the park 3 games ago and has only gotten better since.

One thing they do have in their favor from what they showed is that contrary to ink, the foam seems to stack and be used to reach higher ground, so it ads a level of free agency to create your own verticality to get out of situations or to kinda mold the enviroment to your advantage. Apart from that, the rest is splatoon-esque.

To just blatantly copy something that's already established and loved, and then expect us to mindlessly eat it up because we like the original thing you copied. I find that to be really insulting actually! Hopefully Nintendo sees this as the competition that it is and it pushes them to improve the Splatoon series in the future.

i think there isnt too many maps, it kinda looks like all the verticality is from painting in layers with foam, so theyve all got this blank, flat levels to support that kind of design

I’m honestly really ticked about this. This is just Splatoon for the PlayStation. Splatoon was actually a really unique idea, and Sony just had to go and turn it into this.

It doesn't matter if the game uses the swimming mechanic, because despite being what made splatoon unique, it isn't a thing unique to it. Splatoon was just the first online shooter to use the mechanic. the reason this is a problem is because it is literally, one for one, the EXACT same game as splatoon, except for character models and names. The foam is the same, the specials are the same, even the WEAPONS work the same way. Being inspired by something is fine, blatantly plagiarizing it, is not.

Tbh I'm just glad we will have a sort of splatoon-inspired game on different platform since its impossible for Nintendo to put splatoon game other than their own consoles. I just wish Foamstars is a crossplatform or at least release a PC version because I don't have PS4/PS5. I'm just worried about the game because its handled by Square Enix.. I do hope they won't fuk up like what they did in ChocoboGP release on Switch and FF First Soldier.

The reason Splatoon is so good is because of the way the maps are designed. The fact you can run up inked walls, you could easily break the range boundary of certain weapons. It's a foolproof way to equalize weapon classes
