I have photos of the CC8S driving around Boca Raton back in 2005, that man in the photo at 4:38 gave me his card and told me to come down and check it out. When we got there I took a few kodak photos of it (if that tells you how long ago that was lol) but that wasn't the only cool thing in the shop. After seeing a few JDM imports (R34's and Toyotas) in the back was a Lotec C1000 Mercedes!

Ed, I can totally relate to your road trip with your 5 year old. I too have a 5 year old and got a good laugh out of the ER visit and urgent care visit, ear infection, miraculous healing. I feel your pain!

I actually own this car. I purchased it last August at the RM Pebble Beach Auction. I was a little nervous to buy it as it is a lot of dough and because I had never driven one. And now that I own it and have driven it I absolutely love it. I really don’t find it stiff or difficult to drive I find it simply fabulous and have put close to 1,000 miles on it. I also own a 2005 murci roadster manual which is fantastic. The key to the EGG is getting it out on the road a bit. It is currently in LA and there is nothing greater then taking it out on a Sunday morning all around from Beverly Hills to the Malibu canyons and back. I didn’t expect it to drive like a mass produced German car…but I am stunned by the build quality of this car which was only the 48th from this fabulous company. The combination of the short throw manual shifter, the insane muscle car sound, the open top and the crazy good handling is addictive. I also own a CGT and I can’t decide which I like more and I don’t like anything more then a CGT. Ed you are fabulous and so is my great friend John Temerian.

Congrats on getting that test drive. I must say that i was expecting more from it and your experience. But hey, strive for that Veyron

Ed, I found a Regera for you. ….Look on JamesEdition. It's located in Haar Germany which is 554.6 km from the Nurbergring. You could test drive a Regera, the next day rent a Porsche around the ring!!! WHAT FUN!!!

Ed, I urge you to do an automotive audiobook. I would listen to it over and over. You have a way of weaving and telling a story that is very rare. I would listen to you read Clifford the Big Red Dog for Christ sakes

A good way to get your kid to enjoy road trips and make it less of a chore for everyone (as was the case for me as a kid) is if the kid likes looking at maps to give them an atlas at the beginning of the trip and show them the route you will be taking and that every sign that you see on the trip down will correspond to the map in their hands. As a kid I would sit there with the map and pore over the weird little details of different towns, geographic details of the trip and it made the miles go by much quicker (I know, I was probably a weird kid but it worked and made road trips fun).

You can change the oil on a Veyron yourself! If you have a day and a half to do it. Worth saving 20-30k

I love Ed"s vocabulary range when he tells a story. It's more immersive and I wonder if that's how he really talks irl 😂

I'm thrilled that it only takes a built Mk4 VR6 to make me want to take it out all the time despite the maintenance costs. Ed makes a really good point about how you don't need the best car to have a fantastic, quick, but still close to home experience.

I road tripped 1100 miles from Upstate NY to KCMO towing a camper with a 4 year old and a 1 year old. The key to success? A dvd player mounted to the roof and a LOT of cartoons.

My Father used to road trip the family from CT to FL in a 1968 Dodge Charger 500 straight through on I-95 for 20+ hours. I was the younger son and slept on the speaker shelf in the back and my older brother slept in the rear seat. When we approached one of many toll booths, my father would open the window and blast me with cold air, when he tipped his ash from a cigarette out the window, it would shower me in sparks. No seat belts, no helmets, no participation trophies. We pissed in a coffee can to make time and searched for words in a 2inX4in book with a pencil.. I still remember those South of the Border signs and water transfer decals. Those were the days. Today, the kids will piss and moan if they don't have a virtual reality system to keep them occupied and AC seats to keep them cool. I'm glad I grew up when I did.

It’s fun to think about. But it will be very difficult to keep it a secret. Part of what has made all of the cannonball races a success is that nobody really knew about it until the race already started. And by the time that the public and local law-enforcement heard about the race, the majority of the participants had already been through their state.
