What will the Valley look like in 2040?

Scott Wilken with the Maricopa Association of Governments said projection show we're going to add another million and a half people to Maricopa County by 2040.

Time to admit Phoenix is Los Angeles and Tucson is San Bernardino.

This is irresponsible. Colorado river basin is drying out and y'all are pushing for growth. 🤦🏻‍♂️

It really depends. If Phoenix can embrace mixed use zoning (like you see in New York or Paris, France where there are shops at street level and apartments above), and do infill new development on the ruins of those dead malls, you can add a lot units where traffic considerations were already made (those malls used to have a lot of traffic), and the stores that are right down stairs means you don't need to drive to do literally everything. You just run downstairs and get groceries and household goods, or go to a restaurant, or see a movie. That solves for traffic, housing supply, and tax base (these tend to be great money makers for municipal tax revenue). You also need to ban the growing of alfalfa in your state. You literally use more water on cow food than you do in all the homes and apartments in the entire state. Water problem solved.

Doubtful AZ will sustain life by 2040 if temperatures continue to climb

this city isn't prepared for any of that, not enough rail lines. actually no places in the USA is prepared for population growth (100 million by 2050) americans won't understand how we have slums and traffic jams for hours. (blame NIMBYs)

I thought the govenor passed a new law a few months back that states there could be no new developments unless they could find the water to support all those new homes. What happened to that? Why was this question not asked during this interview? How long has it been since we have seen much in the way of measurable rain and how many days in a row did we see over 110 degree temperatures. The city could become a ghost town if there is not reasonable planning that involves where the water going to come from.

Aks the city about how they allow the water aquifers to be raided by foreign companies for their foreign crops and they're not even really paying for it. They ow the people Arizona billions for this, yet for some frikn reason Arizona is allowing this and telling residents they don't get any water. Look it up!!

We need a bigger and better water project. They need to look in to water Mexico City is doing. Collecting all the water from the rain and producing it into clean and drinkable water.

I think we will see a lot of people getting out of here. Because of the rental problems, pay isn't enough, we can't raise our children and eat.

I remember when MetroCenter was so popular and out in the middle of nowhere. Had to drive through miles of desert to get to MetroCenter. We thought it was crazy to build such a large mall out in the desert, now it's abandoned and hidden by overgrowth of the valley. Where will all this growth get it's water?
