What will the Orioles do if Kyle Bradish is also out for the season?

Спорт

The Baltimore Orioles lost another starting pitcher over the weekend as Kyle Bradish went back on the injured list with another UCL sprain. He could be out for the season, so Host Connor Newcomb takes a look at what the Orioles could do to fill his role. Is the internal depth of Albert Suarez, Cade Povich, and Chayce McDermott enough? Or should the Orioles hit the trade market and acquire someone like Luis Severino or Erick Fedde?
Then, Connor gives you the latest injury updates on Dean Kremer, Coby Mayo, and Jackson Holliday.

    Outside of a few injuries or a trade I don't think Holliday has a spot on the 2024 roster. They'll just wait until 2025 and he'll be there opening day

    Are major league scouts and front offices focused too much on velo, or is it that the David Wells pinpoint control type pitchers so rare now that they are overlooked or just non-existent? Like you said the human arm is not designed to throw triple digit pitches. Dodgers pitcher Ryan Yarbrough is a perfect example low velo but effective hurler with a 3.04 era. The only time he had a velo injury is when he got beaned with a 106mph comebacker to the mound. would love to hear your take on this.

    This was a great episode. Several names I forgot about, Severino (swallows) would be good. Low key Kikuchi would be amazing that’s a no brainer playoff starter for me. Maybe the blue jays don’t care who gets him once they are out of it?

    Are we on Sunday Night Baseball telecast this week? Cleveland is in 1st place in their division. They even got a similar w/L record. Somehow I wasn't thinking that they were that good. The Yankees already know what happened in the 1st series so there's no limit to what they'll try to win this series. I hope it's good weather.

    The primary contributing factor to these arm injuries, is pitch count and pitching back to back innings. Hypothetically, if all MLB pitchers only threw one inning, and limited to 20 pitches. Arm injuries would no longer be a major issue in this sports entertainment business.

    All these injuries. Yeah, the velocity has an effect; but I feel like ever since the pitch clock last year, there’s been more elbow injuries.

    I like Nathan Evoldi. He has a mutually vested option for next year. I like the Lefty in Toronto because as a rental he is motivated to finish strong. I don't think he would disrupt the clubhouse vibe. Apparently he likes to sleep a lot. Scherzer is on a rehab assignment. I think he and Verlander might be stuffed shirts,"brand names" that aren't actually productive against good teams. Idk, sometimes old pitchers find the fountain of youth during the playoffs.

    Bradish will need surgery eventually. I hope he comes back in Sept/Oct to work out of bullpen. Bradish would be the best 1 inning, set up, reliever in the bullpen during the playoffs. The O's need 3 guys w/out splits that can pitch the 7th, 8th & 9th. Use Cano and lefty, as needed for 6th. Bradish could be the guy out of the bullpen who pitches the 7th (only one inning to limit further damage) and he gets surgery when the season is over.

  • @scottbryan455
    @scottbryan455Ай бұрын

    The guy I'd love to add is Nathan Eovaldi if Texas falls further back and sells. Also, the rotation will hinge definitely on whether the win the division or not. If they do, then not having a better option at 3 isn't as critical. But if they go to the wild card they will need both Rodriguez and Burnes in that series, then whoever is 3 (or 4) would have to open the DS, which puts you at a disadvantage

    😊first, Bradish is out. Second, we arent “pressed” for a trade starter though knowing the way Elias and company have operated im sure they are keeping their eyes out and we hAve an owner invested in the team and city who will back them. Third, using this past season 17 game stretch as a “interim test” of our post season potential, we swept the rays, beat atlanta and beat Philadelphia and thats losing kremer and Means and Coloumbe and kimbrel dropping out of the closer role. Irvin and suarez have been our wild card step up guys. They can start and long relief at will and their demeaner of confidence is great they just dont get rocked from a bad inning they come back and dominate. Povich has been ready for the Majors for a while and mcdermott similarly and with the bullpen doing sound reliable work that gives Elias and hyde et all the room to get them exposure, something they were concerned about when we had seven effective starters to contend with now they will have the chance with 2/3 of the season still to play. The series vs the skankees and astros and cleveland all upcoming will certainly be another guage of our back end starters especially for Povich. But we manage a 4 game sweep on the road and 4/6 at home vs top NL teams lets face it weve had trouble vs NL teams up to then. And thats without kremer so dean can take his time getting back to reliable form. Elias and co dont need to go shopping they have a premium to see if someone will fit and improve in our system vs other teams who need help and have to settle to compete. As we are we are destined to the post season. And while a world series is entrance would be remarkable making it to the ALCS is really the next goal. Our future world series team is still one season away.

    I'd still go after Luzardo, I'd even look at his teammate Braxton Garrett or go look at Patrick Sandoval with the Angels or JP Sears with the A's. They're not having great seasons, but they are all playing on horrible teams. How many times could Luzardo have gotten out of an inning without giving up a run or maybe not as many runs if he had better defense behind him? How many times have we seen our guys rob a homerun or take away a base hit with a flashy glove and turn a difficult double play to get the pitcher out of an inning that could have been a disaster? As long as they're not asking for the moon, I would see what those guys would cost and go after it.

    Why is it a guarantee Corbin Burnes is gone after this year? Does our new owner also not pay for pitchers? Or is it more of an issue of Baltimore just not having the cap space or income to afford such a huge deal that other teams could give him? Regardless, we HAVE to get a strong young pitcher that isn’t on a 1 year loaner deal. We have too many questions at the position even with the best/second best ERA in the league. Traumatized from last postseason

    They have luxury tax space. I would like to see them sign Burnes and front load most of the money. That way they are paying more for hypothetically his better years and gives them flexibility at the end of the deal to sign their you guys. So say he gets 8 years 288 - 36 million average. Pay him like 45 million apiece the first two years, 40 million the next two, then 36 million for the next two, then 23 the last two years

    They will trade for a potential ace if they don't plan on making a serious offer to Burnes and it will probably include Kjerstad, Basallo and/or Mayo. Elias was in Houston when Astros traded for Verlander and Cole so he's no stranger to making big moves that include top prospects. I don't believe they will trade for a rental like they did last year for Flaherty. It will be for this season and beyond.
