What Whooping Cough Sounds Like.

Read this before commenting: *****UPDATE: The increase in anti vaccine attitudes has been linked with increased rates of preventable diseases. I made and published this video and I do have the right to delete comments that support this dangerous stance. Petra is a girl, who is now 6 years old and healthy as anything, but has got lung damage/asthma, probably due to having had whooping cough. *******
Confirmed as Pertussis from a pernasal swab. Petra was 22 months at the time, and had had all required immunisations. We had visited doctors twice, and told them about her cough and mentioned that we thought it was whooping cough. TWICE they did not do a swab to test for whooping cough (and this was in the middle of an increase / outbreak in NZ) Out of desperation to get her diagnosed and helped, I filmed Petra having one of her coughing fits at about 11:30 at night. Early the next morning we took her to a different doctor and showed him the movie. He diagnosed her, swabbed her to be sure and took a copy of the video to show colleagues. We also sent the video to the two doctors who misdiagnosed her. Petra was already on some antibiotics when this video was filmed for "bronchiolitis".
Parents: trust your instincts and even if you have to go through this and film it, it might just get your child the help he/she needs. We weren't monsters of parents by filming her, we were desperate as we had been told we were wrong and that it "couldn't be whooping cough because she was immunised." It was a nightmare when we were in the middle of it. We all had a week in isolation at home, and I also got whooping cough, just about developed into pneumonia. It is a TERRIBLE sickness, and because she was immunised, Petra probably only got a "mild" dose. Vaccinate your children if you can. There are some kids who can't be immunised, but they are in the very small minority, and vaccines DO NOT cause autism.

    Thank you for posting this. My daughter is coughing and my brother was like she sounds like she has whopping cough. But it does not sound like this at all. I don't understand why people say dumb things like why are you recording instead of taking care of your child. Wow people. You don't think that these parents are doing all that they can. It's not like your laughing or making a joke or if this. That's very clear to see. I'm so thankful she is well now and I'm thankful for this video so I can watch out for the sound of whopping cough.

    So unbelievably heartbreaking. So happy she was vaccinated as you mentioned her case could have been much worse if she wasn't. I'm also very happy to learn she's healthy and well now. That must have been terribly difficult for you as her parent to witness. ***** There is a big difference between encephalitis/encephalopathy and ASD. In a VERY small number of cases, there are severe averse reactions which is true of every drug. Ever listen to the quick speech at the end of drug commercials about all of the possible side effects? While it is unfortunate that a small number of kids get sick from vaccinations, did you know a complication of measles is encephalitis? Did you know there are MANY more complications from measles, mumps, rubella, petussis, polio, influenza b, etc than there are from vaccinations? Complications are much more likely from communicable diseases than from vaccinations which is WHY we vaccinate. If it was more risky to vaccinate than to get the disease, we wouldn't vaccinate, simple as that.

  • @samanthagoldberg1661

    @samanthagoldberg1661

    9 жыл бұрын

    Vaccinations trigger the same response that the actual disease would without letting you actually get sick. They don't disable the immune system, they trigger it. Have you ever taken an immunology course? Do you actually understand how the immune system works? I have and I do. Why do millions get the flu around when they recommend getting the flu vaccine? I don't know, maybe its because its flu season which is WHY they recommend you getting the vaccine. A family friend just lost her mother due to complications of the flu. She was 53 and it shut down her kidneys. She is not included in the 30,000 people die from the flu every year because her cause of death was technically kidney failure leading to a massive heart attack. Colostrum passes antibodies, yes this is true, but is your baby going to drink colustrum for the rest of his life? No. These antibodies go away after time just like all others. Babies DIE from these vaccine preventable illnesses because they don't have the antibodies to protect themselves. Older individuals get sick and miss valuable work time. I ended up on this video because I just got over pertussis myself. I was fully vaccinated as a kid but my last pertussis booster was 7 years ago. It is recommended you update it every 5 years. A student of mine had it and came to class and passed it to me. I missed 3 days of work and countless hours of sleep because I was up with coughing fits just like this poor baby every hour or two. My fiance had to walk the dog for a month, something I typically do, because going outside for more than about a minute made the coughing even worse. I missed meeting my 3 week old niece when she was in town because I didn't want to risk her getting sick. The risk of adverse reactions is low, much lower than the risk of complications or death if you manage to contract one of these illnesses, especially if you're a baby. By ME being vaccinated, I am helping to protect your baby who is too young for many vaccines. I am protecting my grandfather who in undergoing chemo right now. Did you know cancer patients have a drastically increased rate of complications of these diseases? By choosing to ignore the consensus of virtually the entire medical community, you are putting thousands who cannot be vaccinated for health or age reasons at risk.

    ***** I can not agree with you in any way. You are a conspiracy theorist. I'm sure you would get a *great* response from telling people suffering from cancer to just stop treatment and "implement good nutrition" instead. You are a menace, and you are contributing to more misinformation being spread around regarding vaccines. My General Practitioner has had at least 10 years of medical training, at least 30 years experience practising as a doctor, is a Christian, and believes in vaccines. I'm not sure what will happen if *God forbid* your child gets one of the diseases you should be immunising against, perhaps you are one of those people who believes it would be God's will if your son/daughter dies and not down to a simple matter of your decision not to immunise. I immunised, my daughter got WC, and I STILL believe in vaccines and will NEVER be convinced that they cause autism. You are basing your opinion on a FRAUDULENT DISCREDITED study by a doctor who has been STRUCK OFF, and a Huffington Post article. I prefer to trust my own GP and the millions of other doctors and medical staff who vaccinate children because it is proven to protect the VAST MAJORITY of children from deadly diseases. After I finish this post I will ban you from commenting as you have BEEN WARNED at least three times now.

It wasn't until I came in after the fourth reoccurrence insisting that it had to be something more and questioning the possibility of whooping cough that my quack of a doctor finally test and treat me. OMG, this brings back horrible memories of having this when I was about 5. I was not immunized back in the early 60s as it was not yet common. That time period is something I will never forget for my whole life, the way it felt not being able to take a breath without coughing. I felt like forever back then, and I had no idea that my parents were probably suffering every bit as much or more than I was. My heart felt sympathies to the baby, Petra, and her poor family for having to experience this disease. I know it sucked to be the one suffering it, however, I never imagined the pain parents felt seeing their precious baby suffer, knowing you did all you could to prevent it, and know that there was nothing you could do to help. Fortunately my babies were spared most of these dreaded childhood diseases. (I hope it is okay to mention that the vaccines were successful for my 3 sons, I am thankful to say) only issues we had with out babies were surgically resolved in mid-1990s. I am glad she survived (and y'all too) none the worse for it.

    This is exactly what I was told yesterday at the hospital. This is how my little one is coughing. Not as severe, but the whoop is there. The doctor said, she is immunized so it won’t be whooping cough. I said, I just watched several videos on you tube , one where an actual doctor said immunization prevent only 80 percent. The rest get it. Only then did he give me meds for her. No swab offered. Do they think we are making things up? We know when it is not a normal cough. Thank you for your video. I had whooping cough 30 years ago. I thought I was going to die each coughing episode as my thought closed completely. Scary.

    That was difficult to watch. Good for you for showing this video to the two doctors who wouldn't diagnose her. I'm glad she's healthy now.

    I'd like to thank you for sharing this. My two year old gets some nasty coughs and I'm always worried its whooping cough. It never is. Last time it was just Croup.

    I had whooping cough once, luckily they were able to diagnose it quickly before it got worse, but even the early stages are quite harsh, my ribs felt like they were gonna break from my lungs expanding so rapidly.

    Bless her, happy to know she is doing well. My son's Dr once said of his misery, "You will never forget this incident in his life, and it is very likely.... he will hardly remember it." Dr was right :) Five weeks in traction at age 3 and all he remembers is Santa came to visit. ♥ Was there anything that seem to help relieve her misery ? Steam bath, medications? I note dad holding her left arm up... is that to help open her lungs a bit more?

    AlohaSiempre Just trying to remain calm and keep her calm was the only thing that we did, really. Now when our kids gets coughs we put chest rub on (including on their feet) There is a great one we use from NZ called Weleda Plantago Rub. Not sure if it's available where you are. Yep, he lifted her arm as we believe it opens the lungs more. She was then put on antibiotics as pertussis is caused by a bacteria. Keep the house warm, and avoid cold drinks as that can trigger coughing spells. All the best.

    Thank you for posting because my 16 month old sounds just like that. I'm taking him to do doctor's in the morning. I told the teacher I was concern and they told me that it is a game they(daycare) play to show amusement. Well to kill my worries, he will be going to his pediatrician.
