It's amazing that someone who was so insecure about his looks would work in an industry where your looks were EVERYTHING. His height insecurity is also puzzling since their were many top leading men at that time who were also small of stature and had to use devices ( platforms, ramps) in order to look taller. James Cagney, Edward G. Robinson and Claude Rains are a few examples. In Hitchcock's film "Notorious" it was a well known "secret" that Claude Rains had to use a ramp device when walking up to his leading lady, a statuesque Ingrid Bergman. Poor Alan Ladd, he just couldn't get a break from life or his own inner demons.

We think of that era and the stars, as the golden age of Hollywood, but there was a dark underside. Poor Alan battled his demons and insecurities, that and the industry, just consumed him. May he rest in peace and I'm sure he has found the happiness that had eluded hm in this life.❤

5’7’ might have been short for a leading Hollywood man in 1950, but hardly short fir a nan in general, seeing 5’6”” was the average height if a man in 1950.

If he had moved to Asia, he would have felt more comfortable in his skin and accelerated the Hong Kong/Hollywierd Industries.😎😉🤑
