I absolutely loved that feature in this video. When I was a PhD student I once grabbed a forgotten orchid from our office floor in the pantry and nursed it back to health. From that moment I became the person to babysit profs' plants when they went on sabbaticals. I however keep moving across continents, so I can never stay with my plants for long. My favorite plants are succulents (maybe because I have to travel a lot for work and they are so fierce on their own).

@@ezmereldagoradesky Thank you! It's wonderful that you have a heart for helping people. You may be able to overcome your aversion to blood but there are also many bloodless options in healthcare like physical, occupational, or speech therapy, clinical psychology, etc. I always thought medicine was for me and got as far as premed at UCLA but ended up very anxious, despite doing well academically. The only time I felt at ease was when I was helping classmates with our homework and they'd tell me I explained it in a way that finally made sense. So after much soul searching, I switched majors, got my master's and teaching credential and became a high school teacher. Not as "prestigious" as medicine, but over 150 teenagers came through my room each day and whether it was preparing them to smash an AP test, supporting English learners, or just providing a safe space for kids having a hard time, I knew I was touching kids' lives in a positive way. In this season of life I've chosen to step away from teaching to focus on family. I love being a human mom, dog mom, and a wife who can hold down the fort to support my husband's demanding career. I get to spend time volunteering in the community and devoting myself to the people I love most. Long story short, there are SO many ways to help people in each stage of life, so whether that is medicine for you or something entirely different, follow your passion and your strengths and you'll find your way.

I love these types of videos where Mike spotlights other doctors in the social media space in a way that focuses more on their personality and interests than the medical stuff, I think a lot of people outside of their core audiences tend to forget doctors are normal people like us and expec them to be nothing but business all the time even in their personal lives

AH YESSSS Dr Sanjay June - he made a fantastic point and this world sooooo needs those kind of teachers in education. To help make sense to make logic to make relevance of subjects or of what is being taught or learned. That is soooo vital and i believe to be key to school education. I discovered that way later in life when i started to do way better in math and in grammar of all things in my writing out paragraphs and sentence structure (unlike now because i am in a hurry) not one teacher took the time to make the connections to it all for my daily life. I got better at things when i discovered relevance when i got old and too late to go to college. To all who have youngins to raise, start now while you can to explain to them the connections to math , language , social studies and so on so they will feel connected to the subjects and know why the need to learn it and what it is for , from basic math for paying bills to making huge investments for finances or making medical spiritual discoveries, math is where its at! anyway i could go on and on but my point is Dr Sanjay June - we need more teachers with that concept he shared!!!

I’m a bit surprised that they didn’t mention more jobs within the medical field like being a biomedical scientist, nurse or EMT but change to totally different fields
6:40 this for me. I almost went into teaching, but went into IT instead and currently in InfoSec. But im in charge of all training and education to our employees which I absolutely love for that reason. Explaining something to people that is generally a pretty scary topic and easing their nerves about the whole thing is something I love. When I started I was Help Desk and i thoroughly enjoyed the role too because I helped people fix problems that for the unsavvy are just really frustrating problems. So even in my roles now, I love the teaching aspect of it.
This video was incredible!!! 👏🏽. Love the collabs!
I was not expecting so many creative/atrs related alternatives. But it makes sense since they are already content creators. Very nice
Thank you so much Dr Mike! I learn so much from your videos!!!
As an ESL teacher I loved this video, Mike, it is definitely good material to be used as input for teaching conditionals lol ❤
This is so funny! My husband is an allergist/immunologist and we went on a date with question cards, one asked: If you didn’t have your current job, what job would you have? My hubby responded: Oh! I’d probably be a pediatrician or podiatrist… maybe a surgeon..? I said: But if you weren’t a doctor at all, what would you be? HE LOOKED LIKE HIS BRAIN HAD FROZEN. HE COULDN’T SPEAK! I started laughing. He asked what was so funny. I said: In your mind, there is honestly no alternate universe that exists in which YOU ARE NOT A DOCTOR! 😂😂😂
You should do the reverse as a video. Ask other professions what type of doctor they would be. Excellent content as always!

You rock Doctor Hope! What a cool video! Glad to see ophthalmology represented! My dad was one, a long time ago. But things have changed. I went in for a optometrist appointment last week and mentioned my dad was an eye doctor. The optometrist asked "What part of the eye did he specialize in?" I said "Back in my dad's day, they did the WHOLE eye." I think that offended him, though I'm not entirely sure why. It's the truth.
Had no idea Dr. K was a monk. Namo Buddhya! I agree - I was a psych student before changing life course and Buddhism and Vipassana changed my life, saved it really. Thankfully mindfulness practice has had more research and recognition over the past few years.
