You're right, weird when you look at pictures of the place on Oct 6th it was actually descent... wonder what could have happened to bring about this destruction, its odd to me that when you go into someone's country and rape their women and burn their kids, making well over 1 thousand victims to then kidnap hundreds that it would incure this kind of response... I guess that when Hamas came into power and proclaimed their will to destroy Israel shutting down the borders was not enough. Lesson that is learned in a rather hard way.

Maybe you should have mentioned that the blockade (by Israel AND Egypt (oh, yeah)) only began AFTER Hamas (and others) began firing rockets into Israel. And since Hamas has controlled Gaza since then, who do you think BUILT most of those tunnels? And do you think they built hundreds of tunnels so consumer goods could be smuggled into Gaza?

Very poor journalism - this is old footage and far from the current reality. 60 minutes just lost a lot of subscribers. Why not ask why Egypt blocks goods into this area. It took at least a decade to build the hundreds of km of concrete tunnels used by Hamas - and the local population are obviously fully aware that they were building them - given how well made they are and that the tunnel entrances and exits often come up inside houses and public spaces and buildings.

This is an old article. Interesting that the irish guy claimed he couldn't get a single bag of cement....yet here we are years later seeing hundreds of hamas tunnels having been built using cement. It would be really good to see some more balanced reporting. I think everyone gets that Palestinians are suffering but the reasons why are not as simple as ...israel is evil. Egypt also closed down much of these cross border tunnels due to terrorist weapons smuggling. Thats not discussed either. If this whole issue was as simple as made out here it would have been resolved years ago.

Ihis isn't quite what it appears to be. The primary purpose of the tunnel smuggling is to bypass the customs tax at the Rafah crossing. Also, goods may be stolen property, especially livestock. There is also a big trade in illicit drugs, especially Tramadol. Also, Palestinians without travel documents can pay to use the tunnels and go to Somalia and Pakistan. Presumably 60Minutes knows this but agreed not to report on this in order to get this impressive scoop.

60 Minutes should do a NEWS video on how HAMAS use the tunnels to store weapons and how HAMAS use Human Shields, how HAMAS construct tunnels under residential infrastructure under critical civilian infrastructures like Hospitals and School and why do they do this. As a prominent NEWS channel, 60 Minutes should show both sides of the situation and not just one side.

Tunnels or Tunnel rats are unacceptable in the civilized world.

All these mounts of soil were a result of their tunnel making, those places become hard to live for the Palestinians, while down there all tunnels are cemented and fully equip for all their needs, the surrounding areas above, become muddy when it rains. Roads are uneven.

All this makes me feel grateful for the life I live. I also think that their situation must change for the better.

Egypt and Israel both closed off their borders to Hamas because they are a terrorist organization that will not blink to hurt Israelis, Egyptians or their own people.
