What We Know Warframe Lore - The Kingdom of Duviri

A recap of Warframe's Void, the Zariman, and the events leading up to the Duviri Paradox quest. While now a small collection of islands encroached upon by the infinite Void ocean, Duviri was once a sprawling kingdom of innumerable continents stretching into the infinite. But formed in desperation of a young lord's dreams, they were swallowed whole by the malevolent entity the kingdom had rooted upon.
Long time coming, and a lot longer than I had thought it would be. Hopefully it's enjoyable!

Duviri has been a breath of fresh life in the story. What I wouldn't give for the tenno-drifter to sit down with the Entratis and lay out what they know from the plains and the deals etched with void entities to them. I would love to see how they would react.

One of my favorite parts of New War was hearing "Mother/Gomaitru"...who we now know is Euleria Entrati, giving her lesson to the Tenno children on the Zariman, and making that connection to Deimos. Which, funny enough, was received rather poorly just due to the token thing...which, in reality, was one of the better ways to do rep and standing...but lore wise, it was actually a pretty important update.

The reason they have two names (and I'm unclear of some of the details here)...at some point, the void scientists lost their memories. It's why the Entrati family in the Necralisk all go by Family designations at first, and choose new names once you help them (via ranking up)...because they don't remember their actual names. They seem to have some recollection, like Mother "dreaming" about the untime door and images of her father and I think even the wall? I also think the Man in the Wall also had more to do with the creation of Duviri then we realize. We know Albrecht Entrati was the first to encounter Wally, and once he returned there's no telling if it was truly him that returned, or his twin. Who's to say he didn't tell his daughter to write the Tales of Duviri in the first place? Or perhaps inspired her to do so? Wally is constantly playing 5D chess with the events of Warframe, so it would make sense he would want the book of Duviri written to set his whole plan in motion for the Tenno/Drifter.

We see him as a younger entity in our ship from time to time, reminding us that we owe him for the deal we made. He has been manipulating things from the outside for quite a while now...Example: the dark eyes of the tenno were proof of his control abilities during red-eyed Natah's assassination of Erra, her brother.

I'm still unclear as to how Dominus and Drifter come together. I'm under the impression that while Drifter is the version of us that didn't accept or wasn't offered a deal, that they are not Thrax. Not directly. In the little cinematic where all the parts of the doll come together, the arm that's reaching out of the void growth is similar to that of Dominus. How I interpret it is that as the Drifter willed Duviri into existence through their need of safe haven and attempt at controlling their emotion through the tale of Duviri, they didn't forge it "from fresh" as it came to be, it did so with Dominus as king and with a history already in place. Essentially the Drifter made a play that "started" in the middle around themselves. This is where the wobbly time thing comes in too with Albrecht and Teshin.

While this would make Drifter the creator of the realm and Dominus. But in story Dominus is the all-powerful ruler of the land and thus Drifter manifested an entity that had power over them. And Dominus being the garbage person they were written to be, hounded the Drifter over so many emotional cycles that the Drifter forgot who, how and why the whole thing came to be. They became a prisoner in a story they made.

(A zariman tablet implies his body is entomb on lua, but his soul may not be). There are more that i theorized to also be dead as well. Dax enemies, Dax the tenno killed in the past that wants revenge. Thrax enemies, grineer the tenno killed in the past that wants revenge. Corrupted enemies, general enemies the tenno killed in the past that wants revenge (probably why they all attack you but not each other). Ballas could possibly be reborned as the warden for kullervo. Calventi mercant sisterhood are the sisters of parvos.

I'll have to agree that there's a few aspects of this take on Duviri that doesn't align to my comprehension of it - namely the fact that Dominus Thrax is a construct of the Drifter's making via conceptual embodiment, taking the same visuals as the Thrax king in the Tales of Duviri, and creating an identical kingdom with a myriad of mechanisms to ensure its continued operation - and that the Drifter is not a construct. Sure, they're connected to the tale in the same way we're linked to our Warframes, but they were an outside element in the kingdom. A self-insert in all senses and forms. The merchants of Duviri even express the fact that whatever they could offer the Drifter is junk by comparison to what they have, save for the oddities Acrithis has in stock. In this way, we are literal self-inserted borderline 'isekai'd' into Duviri, but as the Tenno themselves forgot as they slept, so did Duviri decay. But now we remember Duviri. Even have it as a book somewhere in your Dormizone or Orbiter. We even extract weapons and learnings from it, such as the Dax blades used by Teshin, or the myriad of other odd-shaped armaments native to Duviri, or the means to summon a Kaithe - albeit not able to mount it as Operator or Drifter beyond Duviri for gameplay reasons, and notably somewhy unable to wield their Duviri weapons. On a gameplay flip, I'd reintroduce stamina to Tenno melee for Operator/Drifter, making every melee strike cost, and making combo count discount each successive strike, with the multiplier multiplying the discount. Some melees would be more difficult to wield, with the sorts of Fragor, Gram or Galatine being the heavier/heaviest of a limited selection. I'd also include a selection of primary and secondary weapons as something extra the Tenno would be able to wield, so they could LARP as Hayden Tenno with a Proto Glaive and a sidearm of their choice, if not Sirocco, beyond their Warframe. Reasoning for this is to expand the capabilities of Operators beyond an alternative for spy missions and as a forced mechanic for some bosses. Though back to this. The way you describe Duviri as an 'infection' is rather apt, considering how the Void had been popping the 'cysts' which the islands represented over time and had tried more brutal remedies to 'cleanse' itself of the 'unholy realm' we've thought into existence - it lines up with how we're called 'demons' by the Orokin, implying a backend interaction between the Wall of Lohk and the secretive high-ranking Orokin. Furthermore, the Warden. Something tangential to acknowledge would be how the appearance of some things in Duviri - like the Orowyrmlings - match up to the appearances of entities beyond, such as Umbra. Also... what if an Ayatan, as it is a memory storage tool of sorts, could be used to 'hack' Void Angels and impose a semblance of higher sentience, order, and nonharmful solutions to their hunger? Could defeating Wall of Lohk be as easy as turning it into fuel in the same way dinosaurs were rendered into fuel? Or could it be reasoned with - to give us tools to move Duviri and whatever of it can be salvaged to a proverb/literal table, and rendered (to it) as a game of Dungeons and Dragons, with it creating new scenarios? Perhaps we could get it to make a deal with us? A favour for a favour, as dubious as it was on us? Tau can wait. Maybe it's waiting for us to sort this out, hence its silence? All-the-same, I look forward to whatever happens next, and thank you for this.

So if I’m understanding chronologically, The Zaramin gets got, our Tenno makes the deal, the Void splits our psyche in two parts. The part that escaped and the part that didn’t, the part that escaped made the deal saved they’re friends and live out the game up to the new war Netah gets her hand cut off by Ballass it falls into the void, meanwhile the one that didn’t protects they’re mind with child make believe and pretending with a toy all alone because they made the deal to save everyone and instead saw them all insta die and effectively went insane. All the events of duviri happen the drifter is born, after Tenno falls back into the void, they are reunited with drifter, one of the two saves Netah, Netah becomes lotus after she sucks the life outta Ballass, ballas falls into the void, the lotus fights back against the void saving the Operater/Drifter. idk anymore man that’s a lot

I'm not so sure Dominus is the Drifter... To me he's a creation of the Drifter's fantasies just like the other characters from the Tales of Duviri book and ballas were given flesh in there. Still pretty strange to think the Drifter ended up stuck into a groundhog day scenario of sorts where he's constantly being punished and submitted to the whims of Dominus Thrax. Well I guess technically it's more that everyone in Duviri are creations of the Drifter's mind and recollections of the tales of Duviri, except maybe outsiders like Teshin, Albrecht and perhaps Ballas.

While it is a creation of the Drifter, I don't think it is wrong to say it also is the Drifter, in the same sense the other main actors. The flashback scenes in the quest suggest to me that they are compartmentalisations of the Drifter's mental states to help him create a safe place place in the Void where he could live. Some of the scenes that describe Dominus's actions, like visiting the straw graves representing the other Zariman children, don't really make sense otherwise. But I do think it makes more sense to say that the Drifter was always just living in the kingdom he had created and the controlling aspect of him manifest in Dominus turned on him in a depressive cycle of self-punishment as the child king failed to stand against the ravages of the void and panicked, rather than the Drifter also being a narrative construct in the same sense the actors are. It is the original boi/gurl.

I have a gut feeling that the man in the wall is us, the operator, after merging the void. He is what we eventually become. I have a feeling the ending of the story will either be us becoming the man in the wall or us breaking the cycle that creates the man in the wall ending in his defeat. It really makes just because how the tenno are linked to the void. The void doesn’t exist to harm the tenno but maybe use them as some sort of vessel or physical embodiment. Maybe we make the void strong just as it makes us strong. The man in the wall is that peak point in power in which we are one with the void. Maybe the man in the wall let the operator and the drifter survive because they are two halves that make him whole. The drifter able to create his own world inside the void and the operator able to harness the power of the void and control those around them. The man in the wall is an all powerful figure we fear because we don’t any thing about him, but he is just us when we stare into the abyss it stares right back. From the moment we shook his hand on the zariman we were instantly intertwined by fate. I believe that we are playing through the creation of the man in the wall, “our other self” and the ending of warframe might be us resetting the timeline to avoid him from being created or us turning into him creating a timeloop we trapped in.

We know for certain that Wally predates the Tenno by a long time, since Albrecht saw him during his accident before he even invented any Void tech (which later powered most of the Orokin empire). There is some connection between the Tenno and Wally, what Wally calls their “deal,” but it’s definitely not like Wally is Tenno in the future.

At one point in the Albrecht Entrati Poems he refers to "the unholy Zariman parade" (singular) Given that the ship is Zariman 10-0... Do you think this might mean that there were anywhere from 9 to 99 ships before ours? As in "parade" is not referring to the "loyalty parades on the Zariman" but instead to a "parade of Zariman ships."

So the Drifter's existence is the equivilent of someone erasing all of the parts of a play, putting a new one on, and the previous character's name slowly fades into focus as the new play keeps being used.

Dear StallordHd This is really such an excellent explanation of the Duviri Lore, I cannot thank you enough :) There is so much in Warframe I simply did not fully grasped, because it was presented in a way that I was not actually drawn to interact with it or engage with it there and then. It is a true shame that DE tells their Lore in so consumer unfriendly ways. To me it is made ever more damning by the fact that I feel pressed to grind on to simply gather what is needed in resources and gear for the gameplay that the story is more often than not lost at the waysite. But When I find the time to watch your videos I do truly enjoy them. And for that ... I thank you :) Have fun, keep it up and know your fans appreciate your work very much! Cheers!

A lot to unpack, and it oddly makes sense! You did very well in presenting everything and tying it all together. The idea that Thrax is "Our character," is an idea I never considered. I always wrote him off as another character entirely. But putting it into the perspective that Thrax is the "original" version of our character, with the other characters within Duviri being connected to us as facets of our emotions, emotions we can't rightly control. And with the Drifter stepping in, it makes sense how he/she was able to also turn back the clock, or reset Duviri, if they were also a piece of Thrax. Though this begs the question about the Drifter: Is he/she, a void entity? In the most literal sense, given they are a Conceptual Embodiment. At least within the realms of Duviri. But once they leave Duviri during the New War, are we looking at Thrax? Or the Void Entity?

through this video, I now believe that the actual goal/target of the Orokin, for the Zariman, was not Tau, but the void itself, as creating a habitable environment, a.k.a. Duviri, seemed easier, closer than actually terraforming some distant worlds. The children were trained as beacons that would create and control new worlds in the seemingly endless void, and by being able to manifest thoughts into tangible objects, the Orokin could finally feel as gods.
