Hi, my name is Merrill Kazanjian. New York City is an amazing place to go metal detecting. We have lots of parks, colonial history and great beaches for beach detecting. I have gone to all five boroughs of New York City To Metal Detect and beyond. I also currently own 19 metal detectors. I want to have the best and I want to help you choose the best as well. Being a fan of the ctx for 7 years now the machine does get a bit heavy in current or a beach with one foot rollers. Interested in this one for sure. But like most new machines that come out , you usually have to wait about a year for all the glitches to be addressed after the release. ! Probably field testing it for a few months before they announce a release date.

I'm sure the Manticore will be just fine, but personally, I liked how XP announced the Deus 2 ... much less marketing hype. Just a video of a guy opening a Deus 2 box. XP let the initial users do all the talking, which to me, carries much more credibility than marketing hype.

Merrill, I did it again yesterday. I had to mail in my Deus II coil, it would not take a charge. I got it back in 8 days. I took it to a part of my local park where I have never found silver. Yesterday struggling in tems well over 100 degrees, I pulled three silver dimes in less than an hour. All about eight inches deep. I have hunted this area mulitpal times with my NOX 800. It is dry dirt. The Deus locked on swinging in two directions. This was the second time I dug silver at this park that the NOX, or my E-trac, or Garrett Max could not find. Simple settings, turn the volume down on everything (your not going to find gold and Indian cents) except 91 and up, and nickles. This way your macine is relatively quiet, except when you pass over a copper penny, or dime and it sounds out loud and clear and stops you in your tracks. Just to let you know, I dug three rusty nails too.

This is why I stay clear of big venues. Some of the questions and comments the engineer had to endure made me cringe, as a Brit. "Stick it (the Vic Silver), on the ground and wave it over it. I wanna see the potential depth". UGH! Merrill, please bro, do not think we on this side of the pond are all like that. These 'lot' wouldn't know class from clasp. Not-withstanding, ML are supreme engineers, so this machine will work very well, coupled with the carbon fibre composite parts the durability will be up to scratch too, hopefully. Quality costs, so too the need to impress the 'seriousness' of the average owner, whatever the price. For me, it's a sting, but my op counts for zilch in the general sheme of things. Cheers for the headup Merrill. Take care fella.

Thanks Merrill. I see your committed to buying the Manticore as we just heard about this detector yesterday. In my wildest dreams, I cannot see anyone making a better detector than the Deus II. The Deus II has blown the NOX 800 out of the water. I have dug a lot of silver coins in a lot of places that i have hunted before with the NOX 800. For instance, an RV park where I pulled seventeen silver coins using the NOX in a total of five days hunting. Going back this year with the Deus II, in five minutes i hit a silver dime, ten minutes later another. In three days going over the same area as last year, I pull thirteen silvers including an SLQ, plus 32 wheaties. I know, I know, this story sounds fishy, and I cannot hardly believe it myself, except I know it's true. I've pulled over 1,400 silver coins in eleven years of detecting so I know a little about how to metal detect. I love my Deus II even though right now it is in the shop, I am unable to charge the coil. Please keep up your excellent informative and educational videos, you are the bomb!! PS I see online an electric bike that looks awesome that is selling for $1,599.00. Just saying.

Hi Merrill. I have the following doubt not just related to a specific detector, but to anyone. If the coil detects objects upon it, not just under it, even though the wire is isolated, isn't it possible that the wire generates some interference? Even more so the detector has more power... and why don't they design a shaft that has the wire inside it? Thanks !!

I wonder if they will have bone conduction headphones with the Manticore. And if possible, it would be a good idea if somehow, they could incorporate a buit in power bank in waterproof headphones in case you are out in the water and you realize you don’t have a full charge. Turn a switch on, on the headphones to power bank mode and keep on swingin’. Start saving up your detector change and maybe you will have the $1500+ by the time it is available.

Dude honestly I am getting the Deus 1 if the manticore is too expensive. I was told and saw in the deus 2 video there would be a LITE version available, and that was in February. I already use a nox for most of my digs, and the deus 1 is still a VERY capable iron machine. I’m not necessarily in a financial position at my age to just dump that kind of money on a metal detector. I’m not saying it’s bad, but is it worth $1,599? Love the videos, keep it up Merrill. 👍

Let me know when they build one with GPS so I can actually REPLACE my 3030, I have no use for this, especially since I just bought a D2 and mounted a Garmin eTrex 22x to the shaft. (Same thing I did to the GPX-5000) The only thing that lacks is the ease of plugging it into the PC and downloading all the pertinent data like depth and target ID. Maybe when they actualy try to replace the 3030 they will make one you can name the find points so you don't have to cary around a notebook and write down 001 - canslaw, 002 - bottle cap, 003 - rusty nail, etc. One thing I haven't seen mentioned about the new detector is anything on its power supply, is it field replaceable, or when it goes dead is your detecting trip over? This is exactly what we want. 3 major companies throwing us their best, fighting to please us. I predicted when the deus 2 came out minelab wouldn't be far behind with a new product. The price itself is disappointing considering how good the Nox was/is for the money. Double the price of the Nox for a manticore but is it double the features and depth? No way. Minelab have always produced detectors better then it's predecessors but one must justify the $$ for the extras you are getting with a new detector. Target separation and ID have always been more important to me then depth. Nice to see 100 ID targeting.

I don’t think 50% more power is going to translate into a significant leap in depth. In the words of Dave Johnson “Getting extra depth out of a VLF, multifrequency, or PI machine is very difficult, because these machines follow an inverse 6th power law relationship between signal voltage and depth. If everything else is maintained equal, doubling the depth requires 64 times as much signal. If this is done by increasing transmitter power, doubling depth requires 4,096 times as much battery drain. That’s the basic reason why depth increases come so slowly in this industry.” Then there’s the question of how much of that power increase is directed toward that fancy new screen and dynamic graphics.

My beach is full of high grade Stainless bolts and nuts, they ring up like gold on my Excal and Nox, but the Deus 2 gives a good signal with a little grunt and that grunt tells me everything, sometimes I’ll be two digs in and then it’ll grunt. Then I stop and move on. Anyway I’m in the market for another waterproof machine as backup, or as my main machine. I was going to buy another Deus 2 or a Nocta. I’m going to have to wait and see. You might be right!.....Hopefully Minelab realizes that .....and this time they are prepared to deliver the product with a better rollout? Lets hope!.....However!...there is a supply & demand problem currently happening right now.

@@MetalDetectingNYC thank you so much for taking the time to keep us up to date. I'm trying to figure out what my next detector will be. My first amd current one is the Nox 600 and I love it. I may be moving south to VA and want one that can find small nuggets of gold (there's gold in them there hills!).

All I have to say is if Minelab says anything is upgradable....maybe right out of the box you get some kind of update at that time...nit sure why out of the box is not up to date, but that said....have and own Minelab (updatable) metal detectors. How many times have the machines that I have been updated by Minelab.....total is = ZERO!!! Just saying owning a 3030 detector and zero updates....after the cost of more than any other relic detector, and zero updates. Who cares if you can connect it to the internet. You will never get an update!!! Thanks Minelab. Am looking forward to the new Manticore but don't know if I will fork out that kind of money again for a machine of theirs. BTW. I love my 3030 and can hold my own with it against a Nox. Experience does come into play at times and yes the detector does the rest.
