Luckily, the government is so hands-off that you won't even notice it. I'd very much prefer problems with bureaucracy over having a government that intrudes in my life or is a downright Nanny government like in Australia.

#1 reason why I moved with my mom to the US in 2005 (I was 13)- the f-ed up Romanian govt, Romanian healthcare system, Romanian education system, and in general, corruption. But I hear things have improved somewhat.

As a Romanian, I can tell you that the bureaucracy is one of the most annoying things about this country. I hate every second I spend in front of an official because I know he's going to complicate things even harder and he'll send me to bring another copy or a fee that he obviously didn't mention initially. It is a stressful activity and usually things move hard and all the procedures take an eternity until you get the documents

OMG I don't want to move there. LOL I live in the USA and I think our beauacracy is absolutely awful. There are many jokes here about how long it takes to get anything done if it involves the govt; jokes about how low-quality any govt-related work will be, etc. If you do not speak another language you will have a hard time getting help from someone that you can understand. Many times people in the lower beaucratic positions are not trained and can mess up your process and make you start over. Many times they lose important documents; we recently had to go through a lot to get help for my disabled child and we started getting scam calls and were fearful. One of our family members had their social security number used criminally after working with the govt. It's absolute garbage.

"the good things here in Ro" man "everything, except the government" I laughed my ass off at that. As a Romanian I totally agree. Our government is the sole reason why we have so much of bureaucracy and still a bit underdeveloped. There are so mane model private Romanian owned enterprises that are legitimately more modern and forward thinking than our government. There are individuals from different sectors that own better facilities than our government provides (farming industry or medical for example). It sucks to be our government, and it is frustrating because our government pushes their political agendas before the people and strive on votes from the people living outside the cities who do not know much and are easily bought off. You've hit the nail in the head with that one! We have all the funding we need but our government is lagging and struggling to use it properly to develop the road infrastructure to where it needs to be.

The goobernment, pardon me, the government in Romania, at all levels, from the local and county to the national level, it’s plum full of nothing but the progenitors of the former communist regime and due to the gross nepotism practices the entire governmental bureaucratic system it’s gigantic, it’s run by tremendous incompetent individuals and it’s extremely shady. Romania is a 100 percent a “Las Fierbinți” reality predominately in Moldova, Muntenia and Oltenia. Transylvania and Banat seem to be a little better, but not by allot. America (the beautiful) had been blessed because it started in 1776 righteous and good and its Constitution is unique in the whole human history, but ever since the Willson administration, and especially since the very unconstitutional Federal Reserve Act of 1913, it became a vassal state to the international bankster families. The US government has become infiltrated by domestic marxist ideologues and even foreign agents and has been transformed into a corporate entity, no longer a constitutional republican government of, by and for the people. Unprecedented in America, under the present administration the DoJ has started political persecution to the point of imprisoning of its political opponents with total disregard for the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights there within. The government system in the 21st century USA has become just like the fascist and bolshevik regimes of yesteryear. Anywho, slowly the ‘customer service’ in America will become similar or even worst than in Romania. I LOVE the US of A, and my heart breaks to see it utterly destroyed from within, but because its very prosperous, complacent and apathetic people embraced greed, immorality, sodomy and every kind of debauchery, God’s judgement is about to be poured upon her ! 😢

I moved from the UK to near Brasov in 2020, have a house in the mountains close to Bran castle. Overall I prefer living here, its very picturesque and has a nice community. If you need any advice I would be happy to help.

You're close to Medias (Mediash) which is an amazing town with amazing people - so friendly and welcoming, really dog friendly. My dog was treated like royalty at the hotel we stayed at, they cooked food especially for her, checked on her when I went out to sort something out, otherwise I took her with me everywhere. They adored Emma so much, she was invited in their restaurant and they insisted. I politely declined their invitation because she begged in adorable ways, all clients would have starved. That restaurant had the most amazing beef soup ever. Then there was a lovely restaurant employee (different restaurant) who got out in the street and invited us in, promising to cook anything I wanted for the princess, only because I had stopped in front of their door to check my phone in the purse... An amazing lady hopped in her car and asked us to follow her, when we got lost and were really late for a very important dog show...There was no room in ours, and she refused any payment for the trouble and the gas... Really lovely people in Transylvania, so kind, welcoming and friendly, and the food is amazing. And those cities and towns with classic architecture are truly spectacular, Medias being one of them. As for the internet - it is among the fastest and most reliable in the world.

Romania is gorgeous and I can’t wait to visit! I think what we all miss the most about some where we grew up is the food. There is always some snack you crave that isn’t available or simply doesn’t exist lol. Grew up in Canada and moved back to the UK(Country of Birth). They have no concept of Dill Pickles and I have to pay an arm and a leg to get them from American Grocers online lol. Even when they advertise “gherkins for burgers” always sweet and that’s vomit fuel.

I am from Romania, lived there for 23 years but in the last 5 years I live in USA. Well I did college for free, I can work as an engineer even though My parents didn’t support me or had to go in debt for years. Here you need to pay around 100k for that, if you’re a smart person but poor that’s hard and not fair. America is the richest country in the world but cannot provide its people to get educated, education is very important, that’s why we are good at math, geography of the world, history of the world and we speak a lot of languages, my mom speaks 5. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to be educated in Romania for free. If you have the will to learn, the government help you, even my master was free. In Romania health coverage is for everyone who is working and most of the time is free unless you do like a complicated surgery. If I have some health problems I usually buy a ticket and fly to Romania. For example once a guy on a motorcycle on the highway had an accident and he was telling us not to call the ambulance because he cannot afford it. Usa being a rich country cannot make sure their people will not die just because they are poor but Romania a poor country can, how? It’s unfortunate that the health of American people is not a serious thing. Everyone having guns here is also something I don’t like here. You can get shot by someone just for having an argument. In Romania worst thing scenario they will beat you. Nobody has guns unless the cops. I feel safer back home then here. Guns should be illegal and you should go to prison for having one in my opinion. America world be much safer if having a gun would mean serious consequences. When I lived in Virginia Beach I heard gunshots so many times and I was afraid for my life.In Romania is not the case. Drugs here are also a problem, so many people do drugs, weed here is like drinking a beer back home. Even old people are doing it. I met one Romanian guy who grew up in USA, he was a drug addict and I was thinking if he had grew up in Romania that would not be the case. Sure in Romania people drink alcohol but I never met in 23 years a person who was doing drugs. Drugs can be addictive. Look when I go to a club I drink, but my friends here they are spending all their money to be high every day. The reason I live in usa because the economy is good, but I miss the food, the health sistem,the safety, the opportunity you have with education for free from Romania. I wish the American government would care more about their people and spend the money on education, health, getting rid of drugs and guns. And it’s not just here, I just visited Ecuador, people over there have guns and they kill you if they rob you, that happened to a polish guy and I was like that’s not the case in Romania. I remember walking home from the club at 4 am and there was no danger. Well every country has it’s pros and cons and they have something to learn from each other. God bless you and your family, enjoy Romania, your kids are in a safe country and they will be well educated for sure.Hopefully one day I will move back. I recommend Oradea if you wanna visit, it’s a beautiful city, in top destination to visit in Europe, Oradea is nr. 6, and it was declared a safe european city to live, the transilvania area have that southern hospitality from USA, in other areas people are a bit more cold but regardless everywhere you would meet wonderful people.

The US Constitution was built on the 2nd amendment, the right to own & bear arms for any adult citizen. The reason this was put in place, is to keep the government in ck. It's a freedom that the government & and Biden now are trying to take away now, so everybody cand depend on the government, you know like Romania used to be.... If you live in the States I strongly recommend you reading the Bill of Rights & The Constitution

The government made you modern corporate slaves and none of your guns are helping you. Education costs a fortune, the people are paying hundreds of thousands of dollars on healthcare, children are being killed in school, largest prison population in the would, the people are working like slaves and barely have the right to go on holiday for a few days. you are wrong about Romania: not only you can be beaten up, but you can be stabed, hit in the head with a chair or a piece of wood, etc. And like someone else commented, guns are allowed because is a constitutional right. And make them illegally will not change anything. Will just make it worst for law abiding citizens because they can't defend themselves anymore. If you look closely, most of the shootings are in poor neighborhoods, where gangs and black people live. And banning guns will change nothing, due to poor aducation and poverty increasing in US. Take example of Venezuela. They banned guns in 2017. Still gun deaths are high. Venezuela with guns banned: 12,800 guns death, for a population of 28,000,000 (0.0005%); USA gun deaths in 2021: 100,000 deths for population of 340,327,246 (0.0003%). Again: those who studied gun related death said: is due to poverty. which is growing in US. And gang can have many time illegal guns. So, banning guns will only leave honest people without protection!

It's great to see that you guys enjoy living here. One of the best things we still have, compared to the US, is that going university and studying for a bachelor's degree is FREE. Love your videos, keep posting.

Ivy leagues don't even come in the top 50. You don't even know what ivy leagues schools are do you? You're an American, of course you're only familiar with American universities, but remember there's literally an entire world where they have far more universities, and much better ones.

I'm a Romanian living in Canada, and I feel you...bureaucracy in Romania is a pain in...it's just unbelievable 😆 is something that I don't miss about Romania. What I miss there is internet speed ...is the best in Romania and the price is very good with no download restrictions ...because here prices are crazy and internet services are so bad. But you're right customer service in Romania is kinda bad 😊

I'm a Romanian who has been living in Romania for the past 3 years. Before I lived in Quebec and for a short period in Alberta Canada which totals to over twenty-two years, pretty much since I was 8. I had made the decision before I realized just how connected I was to the land and culture. There are things I miss about Canada and the States, but they are mostly materialistic. In the grand scheme of things, if you want to live a healthier, happier life and you make a decent salary, Romania is by far the best. The soil is much healthier, hasn't yet been damaged by agriculture, and is just overall a simpler life, fresh air, good people. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find Americans, Canadians, or even English living out in the area so I can maintain my English which is slowly going down the drain.

you said a key word there: if you make a decent salary. Sadly, many people don't! I know people who make $411/month, which makes it very hard to survive. And they are not teenagers. They are over 40 years old. The minimum wage in romania is $3.90/hour (18 lei), compared with US where is $12/hour and can go up to $45/hour for people without college degree.

I'm happy you guys have decided on such a big decision and are happy with it! Moving to other nations is never easy, but often it's almost always worth it, and I LOVE romania

One thing you don't miss, the fact that you don't hide under the table in a coffee shop when a balloon or a fire cracker pops and you think it's a shooting....

I'm Romanian, born in Bucharest but came to the US (San Diego, CA) at 3 years of age. I speak, read and write fluently. I have 3 degrees, one is a Masters. The politics here are ridiculous. Inflation, cost of living and hard to get a good job without connections. Corruption anf politics in the workplace. I have been debating using my degrees and moving back and living a decent life in Romania. I have tons of family there. The ppl are educated, respectful, welcoming. The food is the best part of Romania.

It's interesting to see your view of Romania as a Romanian living in Canada for 14 years now. I'm glad that you enjoy your stay. I'm sure that the girls speak Romanian already (better than you :D ), just like my kids when it comes to English. It's good to know more languages than one, their brain will be wired differently and they will be able to change tasks more rapidly just because they will be used to switching languages. Anyway, you guys are funny. I liked the video. You are right, the bureaucracy is horrendous over there and this is one of the reasons I left Romania. Perhaps I'll return there when I'll retire. I don't know. Lots of things are cheap, and you forgot to mention the health care system. It's free, but if you want a better "customer service" in a hospital you have to bribe people (sa platesti mita), or you go to a private clinic where you'll be treated more humanely (like Regina Maria, or something like that). And, yes, the cost of health care in Romania is waaaaaaaaaaaaay less than the United States. Did you guys pick up some Romanian words while staying there? All the best. One more thing that I would like to add is that don't take Romanians questions like "how's your family (sisters, brothers, parents, etc.) doing?" as sign of intrusion into your personal life, but a sign of friendship. It's totally different than the Western or North-American mentality. If a Romanian is asking you this he or she genuinely cares about knowing you and being your friend. In Canada or in the US, it's not custom to be asked these questions by acquaintances or co-workers. I'm not sure if you noticed this while living in Romania.

My husband can easily converse in Romanian, but I have a harder time. I know alot of vocabulary, but struggle putting it all together!

btw here in RO parents force kids to take naps until they are like 10=)) i said this just cause your eldest said she misses daycare=))) so i’m glad hearing that she’s not being traumatized with day naps like most of the romanian kids=)))

Pffff... this is so not true. All the kids i know sleep if they want..if not how the hell u gonna' force them? My kid naps only at the kindergarten because they all do.. they wake up at 7.30 so they are tired and nap. When they are home and sleep more in the mornings they don't nap at all. Allso they go to sleep at 10 at night, or later . Stop talking about romania as if u know all romanians. Maby u just have crazy parents. My parents could't iven make me go tonschool when i didn't want to.. i just took a break and thet was it. How do they traumatize u? Beat u? How do they force u to sleep? Give u wisky? I really can't understant how enyone can force u sleep, eat, or do enything if u don't want to do it? U say kids are traumatized with naps? No, man .. adults in romania are traumatized cuz they don't allow us to take naps at work, thet is the truth.

I believe most of these things apply to EU in general. Then obviously life in Romania is great and much cheaper than in other countries so I can imagine it must be great being there and be paid in dollars. Apart from the weather and low income Romania is great! ...and much safer than many areas in the US.

As an ex customer service person i have to agree with your man. Customer is not always right.

About the customer service, I was really creeped out by the creepy smiles everyone in customer service is giving away like free candies in the US, in my short tripe there. Yeah, I really do not miss those smiles :)) I mean, if everyone smiles, then it loses its meaning. Here, if someone smiles, then I feel so much better than in the US.

Actually as a romanian living in UK, I remember first time I move here in UK I saw everyone in customer services smiling and it felt so much better then in Romania where everyone was such in a bad mood, but hey, whenever I miss that, I can still find people working in customer services here in UK that are in a bad mood at Lidl, throwing your shoppings with the speed of light! :))

I never got the point of not putting the final prize of something directly on the shelves in the shops. Or maybe the prize w/o tax large, and with tax smaller below.

For authentic Mexican food the best place is Bodega del Taco in Cluj Napoca. Owned by Mexican, real deal. Also heard about El Magueyito in Timisoara but haven’t been there yet .

Hi! We went with a U.S. based bank that also handles international transactions. Once we arrived, we got a Romanian phone account (Orange or Vodafone are popular). We keep an address in the states as well as our physical address here in Romania. We have either done a private international school or homeschool while being here. So that part was easy. Hope your move goes well!

I am not in Romania yet, I been living abroad for almost 12 years, I am not sure if I will be able to do this if I was not working for american company, I am sure I will enjoy Romania.

I remember that many years ago there was a Mexican restaurant in Brasov called "Dos Amigos", unfortunately it closed in 2015 or 2016. The owner was so passionate that there I ate really well-cooked Mexican products, drank tequila from the source, tacos, quesadilla, buritto and a lot of authentic Mexican dishes. Not even in Bucharest at that time did I find such a cool restaurant, I miss it :(

We don't have Romanian jobs. Pablo works alot with sports and music ministries.

I already saw half of your video and I see that you keep comparing prices in USA with prices in Romania. But keep in mind that in US many workers, even Target, Walmar, Walgreens, will have $1,800/month, whilst in Romania many workers have $300/month. Working in construction in US, you can start with $20/hour and making $3360/month and will be increased periodically, to maximum $45/hour. In Romania you start with 3,000 lei a month gross income ($650/month) and you have to beg your boss many years until decides to give you a raise. And from $650/month gross income, after tax you get $411/month. So, of course the prices should be lower than in US, where you can make over $3,000/month.

@@THECALDERONFAM Window/Door rabatat is very dangerous for cats they get stuck there and if you are not home cat will lose her life or broke her spine and remain paralized so if you have cats be carefully never let the window or the door rabatat if you are not home.

We did live there! Last year we moved, but we loved Avantgarden!

The medical costs here are out of control. I started my dental implant, but stopped it at the most expensive part...yet another $3500 for the remainder. Total amount is just slightly less than I paid for my tiny house! That doesn't even include 3 small cavities, and a chip in one of my teeth. Probably another $1200. I'm just waiting to finish it all when I get overseas.

@@THECALDERONFAM Nice, good choice! Brasov is so beautiful in the mountains, it's my favorite city in Romania other than Bucharest. I guess that explains the lack of Mexican food options there though because Bucharest seems to have the most international options in the country but I'm sure they'll expand those options in other big cities like Brasov, Cluj, Timisoara, and Constanta. I'm in LA, unfortunately, and I get LA vibes from you guys, are you from LA or California originally?

Had everything I could have dreamed of as a Romanian kid but my parents decided to leave for Canada in 1994. They were 44. Now I am 44 … and my gf came here from Romania but misses it so I find myself with the same questions. Should I stay (in Quebec) or should I go (back to Timisoara). I have to think less about $, just make the move and let the Almighty take care of the rest. 😉 Inspiring video please keep them coming.

There’s a lot of bureaucracy. Getting a visa can be very time consuming. It might be beneficial hiring an immigration lawyer/consultant to help with the process.

You look romanians to me. The funny thing is that in school we learn American English not British English. So, many romanians speak with an american accent. Im romanian but foreigners thought that I was american when I spoke in english.😁😁😁😁

Pretty sure that's because Romanians' exposure to English is from movies, TV, video games, Internet, where 99% of English is American, so they get used to speaking that one instead.

We learn British English in school, as far as I know. Rather the American accent is easier for us to pronounce than the British one.

I think it depends where you live in America; it's such a large country. Our public trans definitely sucks where I live. During my generation standards have slipped even further. I actually had a hard time finding work that would hire me without having proof of my own car since it's so bad out here in the city. But with Uber and everything; if you're comfortable with that and the money you could do that. We even have places I see people walking to and from with grocery carts.....I am not in-shape enough to do that at this point but I think it's cool. It's about a 30 minute walk one way-with a hill; if flat it would be like 15 minutes one way. We don't like in as urban of a part of the city as we did before. But this area is much safer. I know of places in the South that REQUIRE a car to get groceries because there's no bus unless you wanted to walk several miles. We also have really fancy apartments near us in the West; that have grocery stores and Walgreens-type of stores INSIDE the main floor of the apartment building. But you pay out-the-nose for this. I would not like it personally. I'm guessing they have similar in places like NY and other large cities. I hear Romania is safe! Maybe just terrorism-wise. But I am curious as-to if it's safe to walk at night in Romania etc. In my city it's pretty safe but I would still not want to risk it if I don't have to. People DO still get robbed here at least every month or so but usually no one gets hurt if they just give up their stuff. But about 20 minutes away (by car) you have a much higher change of getting robbed, even stabbed or shot. I feel it's like that in many areas in our state and maybe across the states. There will be really nice areas that have little "transition" between seedy areas and safe.

@@THECALDERONFAM ah, I get it. - from Bucharest . Btw I don't know what supermarket you were in,but the "TVA" ( the tax ) is included in the price tag you see on rafts most of the time. I never encountered a store wich doesn't include the tax on the label of a product. Sometimes it's written as "-/+24% TVA" or something like this,but it should be included. Online stores the same , though they don't always include transport tax, or how you say "shipping fee" in the product page ; that would be included in the invoice though.

@@THECALDERONFAM I'm romanian, lived in Romania so far,but my sister is happily married in US, Texas for some years. I know a bit of Americans and US though I never been to US,also my childhood friends moved to Florida,Largo and we kept in touch. The thing in regards to differences, in Romania and I dare say most Eastern Europe the customer service, the people providing service in a store ,whether it's a small shop or a big company are not suppose to treat you in a cheerfull way,but being polite without acting friendly. It's a cultural thing , in society we see friendly acting people as superficial or shallow,(except if we know them personally), so an employee acting cheerfull,or a stranger on the street, is considered a superficial response to a client and unnecesary. Not always,but often. Of course,that doesn't mean he has to be rude or ignore your needs. Also, as a cultural difference, people here can be brutally direct about things and not knowing/realizing it may offend you.Anyway, in bigger cities with younger people you don't have to worry about that and most just try to be nice to you regardless,especially if you are foreigner.

Whilst we only had 30 years of post comunism to get in touch with our euro roots again and try to rebuild our identity.... I mean, it seems an unfair pairing in a match 😅! We can't compare to the US.... Yet...

Indeed,it is unfair to let a man or a child to die in front of the hospital because doesn't have inssurance,it is unfair to be shot in your own house becaue some dumb cop have mistanken the street and got to the wrong hose, it is unfair to be allowed for any maniac to carry a gun,it is unfair to put poisonous chemicals in the food industry products wich are banned even in the third world conturies, it is unfair to not have right to a payed vacation, it is unfair to pay insane taxes for scholarship...and the list can go on....there is only one thing that matters: to make PROFIT no matter the consequences. And,by the way...last year Romania had an economic growth of 768% ....USA- 79%..wich is unfair,indeed

@@razvanboghi7502 It's not rare cases, US working situation is awful, there are no vacation days or maternity leave guaranteed by the state, practically people in US could work non-stop, without a single day off, and that would be perfectly legal. And even encouraged by the state and US companies.

Why did you pay 4000 lei for your daughter? You have no idea about the social system in the European Union. In any EU member state if you work and have an employment contract or if your children are registered to live in that region and are in kindergarten, school, high school or university everything is free: consultation, intervention, everything. And if you do not have employment contracts and work from home, you can pay monthly medical insurance and if you need something, everything is free. Get interested so you can benefit for free. In the EU, you don't pay for that. I am Romanian and I live not far from Romania, in Austria and it's the same. When I was a student in Romania I had consultations, I did free physiotherapy because my back hurt. When I had the flu or if I bought my pills I paid maybe a few euros maximum 10-15 for treatment. But that rarely happens. If you take prescription pills from your family doctor, they are much cheaper than if you take them directly from the pharmacy without a prescription. Forget the American system where you pay $ 7,000 if you break a leg. It's free here if you work or repeat, if you pay that monthly insurance fee. I don't know how much it is per month, but it's not much, maybe 100 euros / person. If you pay much , you will have more benefits , I don't know exactly . In Austria I have employee contract so everything is free :D . Good luck and enjoy Romania , Austria is also beautiful , but not so cheap . I will return in my country in a few years , here are big salaryes in Austria and I bought a land I have a project and this sommer I will start to build my house in Romania .

@@THECALDERONFAM maybe you've heard nasty things or stories after communism in state hospitals. This lasted until 2010 in some regions and now there are isolated cases in small towns or in rural areas . :) But now in a city like Brasov you can easily go to state hospitals for free. School shootings

Are you medical assured in Romania? In Romania everyone have to be medical assured while working, i feel like is a system which aims to secure everyone right to medical system. School system can be quit good on top high schools, schools ( expecially in cities). Bullying i guess is not that much present, there is a lot on Romania could be change over educational system, i feel like romanians politicians really ignore what should be done. Universities are quit cheap, but there was a lack of investments in 30 years, communist system likely aproach very hard on proffesional education, there was a lot of researches and studies conduct by universities and researching facilities. Now i quit feel like universities didn't update them university support, to withstand to nowadays tehnological education support. It feels like it could be more done.

@@niaroma2375 thanks for the questions! We lived in an apartment for 5 years and just moved to a house this week! We’ve lived all over the US (Iowa, Maryland, Montana, Colorado). The winters aren’t too bad here, we are used to a little bit more snow than what we get here.
