What Was The Final Result On That Evo Stroker

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is My friend Jim's 4 5/8" Evo Stroker we put an entire Dave Mackie Engineering top end on. We used a Mackie Cam and a whole bunch of good stuff. Jim wanted to know in numbers how well it was doing, so he made an appointment and ran it on a dyno. Now, we're discussing the results.

Good morning Mr Pacific, hope all is well in Sunny 😎 Cal. You did a heck of a job on that stroker Mike. I use a Mikuni 42 on my stage 4 2002 FLHT 95” build and a Dyno tune is always the way to go but I have found when it comes to a carb, your butt and ear doesn’t lie. I also find it truly fascinating that you can have two of the exact same set ups on the same size engine on a carb’d Harley, yet they need two different tunes, within a shake of a lambs tail. My scoot is a thirsty girl and loves fuel, I get 36mpg on the highway give or take and does better when the weather is in the mid 70’s. She runs a little fat in weather that’s over 90 and humid but here in New England, riding year round, I need to jet to cooler weather for a happy medium. We have a VP gas station here in Lowell Ma with Non ethanol 93, that’s all I feed my girl. I personally prefer a Mikuni on my builds but it took a little to get used to that slide rattle when I first used one. I also think the whole “Mikuni’s can’t take atmospheric changes well”. All I can say is that from 100 degrees down to 40 degrees, my Mik does just fine without changing a thing, maybe a minor tweak on the pilot jet. I do find if I don’t polish my choke plunger once a season, she gets a little hung up sometimes. Thanks for the update Mike and please take care of yourself.

I've always found it interesting the ways all motorcycles vary from unit to unit. My dad told me when I was a kid and it probably holds true today, that Police officers could take a car from the motor pool and it was no big deal, but he was assigned to a specific bike. This was because they all differed.

  • @MidnightExpressMC

Are you referring to the enrichner when you say “choke plunger” ? If so, there is a company in the west here who makes you a custom length stainless steel much improved design that supposedly seats that enrichner in the carb much better. Been thinking about ordering one. But yeah, that Mikuni flat slide ~ particularly when you have dialed in the accelerator pump - gives incredible, instant throttle response 👍

@@MidnightExpressMC I am referring to the enricher, Mikuni just labels the plunger choke, makes it easier for conversation as most or some don’t understand the difference, obviously Mike does. Do you happen to know the name of the company? I’ll google it anyway but yeah, every one I have installed has worn through and it needs to be oiled and eventually replaced. I’ll even polish the plunger but it’s just the nature of the beast.

@@getoffmygrass6974 It’s MaxAir Engineering. He even has two KZread videos showing the cable as well as adjustment of same. He makes a bunch of products, mainly for the Yamaha Road Star and other Yamahas. But the retrofit to the HSR42, as applied by many of us RS owners, is what prompted him to make the special enrichner cable since the one supplied by Mikuni is not good. As he custom mkakes them to order, it should not matter on what bike the Mikuni is mounted; Harley or otherwise. As mentioned previously, I have yet to order the cable, so have no practical experience with it, per se, but I have heard, anecdotally, from Forum members who like it. ButI will order mine soon, as I am enbarking on many mods this fall. Good luck!

The newer engines have more complete combustion and they really don't read the same. It's also because fuel is so different. They just don't tell ya like they used too. It is recommended by the manufacturers that you read a plug on the flat part of the insulator up inside where they come together with the electrode. Kind of a pain.

I'd have to be standing there. You'll need to remove the adjusting screw. Proceed slow and carefully. Loosen bolts a very little at a time. Then go to the next bolt. If you feel you're in over your head, you may need to take it to a pro.
