Killer Instinct was actually a really good pickup for NSO. It was really popular in both arcades and on the SNES. Pretty sure I saw a fair bit of advertising for it and some units in arcades.

The Epic Mickey remake alone will be worth it

Normal Nintendo Directs are already Partner Showcases with little bits of 1st party sprinkled in.

I enjoyed it. Epic Mickey and Monkey Ball were the highlights. I also didn’t mind the bad announcements because I just skimmed through the whole thing because it was a video.

For me the highlights were Another Crab's Treasure and Penny's Big Breakaway.

It was better than I was expecting, and it did have some cool surprises. Endless Ocean Luminous was a very interesting reveal, but it's not a game for me, happy for fans of the game. It does look like a very beloved series going by what I've seen people say about it. When it comes to Rare, I have to ask, where the heck is Rare Replay? That is one of the most requested Switch ports! It would be no problem to port, just add the DKC trilogy, DK64, Diddy Kong Racing, and Goldeneye 007 to it and it will be one of the most solid re-releases ever. Epic Mickey Rebrushed was cool, and you're right about being cautious with the new Super Monkeyball game. For a lot of longtime times, they've really not been a fan of the direction the series has gone in since Banana Blitz, we'll have to wait and see. I saw some concern over the art style and character models, it looks like a mobile game. I don't think this means the Switch 2 this year. Endless Ocean Luminous is a brand new first party game, then I know we all dread the Pokemon Presents, but if there are remakes of Gen 5, you know those will be holiday titles this year. And I suspect we have more surprises in store.

How did we get a licensed game almost nobody cares about for an obscure animated movie that bombed financially and did ok critically before Super Mario Land

I’m really looking forward to the Battlefront remaster. I used to play those all the time. I agree about the disappointing rare announcement, they should just put the updated Banjo games from the rare collection on Switch at least.

@@INFERNO95 I wouldn't say that game is crap, and I certainly know where where where where came from. They helped make things like Jetpac and Atic Attack as Ultimate: Play the game before things like Beetlejuice or Rodger rabbit for the Nes.

And they're games that have been available on the Xbox along with most of the rest of Rarewares library since 2017 in Rare Replay Collection. That collection being released in the Switch with the addition of the Donkey Kong games and Diddy Kong Racing would be an easy sell.

The only thing I disagree with here is what you said about the Rare games on NSO. The SNES version of Killer Instinct was the only game left in that series never rereleased which is huge and Blast Corps is a super underrated N64 game. Plus SNES Battletoads hasn’t been released too. That’s fine if you don’t like them or if you’re disappointed with them, obviously everyone has different tastes, but in terms of bringing back legacy games this was fantastic

Mother 3 unfortunately has copyright issues with the OST. That was already a fear with EarthBound but it managed to escape any copyright claims, but M3 pays tribute to multiple songs via directly borrowing large melodies from songs so copyright exist within localizing the game

Nah, it most likely is. I don't think you know how aggressive the music industry can get when it comes to "protecting" their IP (e.g. the Blurred Lines lawsuit). Plus since the music is tied to the mechanics it's not like they'd want to do THAT much reprogramming for a GBA game@@bunsmasterbunny The dumb part is that they wouldn't need to (there's a lot more Nintendo allows on its platform now than in the 90s) but I do think they'd edit it anyways out of fears of offending people. @@thecoolbroscoolman4672 Sonic 3 only got re-released by scrubbing the offending songs out and that only really worked as well as it did because they had Beta tracks that they could use from before MJ's involvement. I doubt Mother 3 would be so easy to work with.

I'm quite disappointed here that *_*NO*_*_ _*_Sonic video games_* were announced in today's Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, especially when it comes to a Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games video game announcement!!! (The Summer Olympics in Paris is happening later this year; and so there should be a "Mario & Sonic at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games" video game announcement any time, now.)

With Killer Instinct you are wrong Killer Instinct was at the time one of the most selled Snes games and Arcade game, Got things like oficial Nintendo Events or Nintendo Power Comics Just because Banjo Kazooie is more known because of beeing more Nintendoish doesnt mean Killer Instinct is an obscure random niche game And with Battletoads, They were the Main game of Rareware in the 80s before moving towards Donkey Kong Country, But I will say the nes game is more as a classic than the Snes game

I got mother 3 using an alteenate japanese switch account off the eshop, im playing with an english script by my side. So happy to play the game in an official format.

I've been part of that movement for nearly half a decade! They listened with thousand year door, they can do the same with mother 3.

AFAIK, the biggest thing holding Mother 3 back from a re-release is the music since it uses a lot of samples and motifs and references that would invoke international copyrights that would need handling.

I think that it is best that Conker stays as a relic of the early 2000s. Knowing Microsoft's current trends for their "big first party system sellers," a new Conker game would most likely be a rushed live service looter shooter or big empty open-world game with a script written by Twitter or Tumblr users that idealise Hazbin Hotel.

I don’t understand why people like to give a note to the directs according to the announcements. Like on my point of view the notes should based on how they present the games, what they told you about it. Sad that you didn’t talk about SMTV vengeance. Looks like they want to fix the story of the game radically.

Ummmmmm actually, Killer Instinct is a much bigger heavy hitter than you think. It's a fantastic fighting game and it's anything but obscure

I've played Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of 2 on the Wii, but haven't played the original. I might give this game a try.

If you wanna play World of Goo 2, you should REALLY go and play the first game first. It's available on the Switch but it's also on Steam I'm pretty sure, the game is a masterpiece and there's actually quite a bit of storytelling and worldbuilding going on that you should really experience before the sequel, since I bet the sequel's going to continue that. The music is also fantastic. It's a game that I would say is a true work of art, so definitely play it first. Also yeah, the WiiWare version supported the original Wii Remote, didn't require the Plus.

Really excited for SMTV Vengeance! I’ll be picking up the PS5 version, though.

I think that the Direct Partner Showcase just existing, regardless of quality, is important enough on it’s own People are expecting Nintendo News in February so this Direct also works as a way of Nintendo telling us “we don’t have enough new games ready to be revealed at the moment, we might have another direct prior to our next Indie World but there’s no guarantee” Mother 3 not getting a localisation pretty much confirms that Nintendo will NEVER bring Mother 3 to the west, want to play the game that Lucas from Smash originated from? Well too bad you have to pirate it by playing the fan translation. Yes the fan translation is better than any translation that Nintendo would make but it would be nice to be able to support the mother series and allow people who aren’t able to play the fan translation to be able to experience the game even if they can’t read Japanese.

I enjoyed the Direct, the thing about partner showcases that really gels with me is that they're pretty low stakes. At least I know not to expect a deluge of disappointing Mario announcements and the lack of anything DKC related again. And it's kind of funny to see Nintendo fans fuss that they didn't get more Mario, Zelda, or PokeMon news. You guys will get your games, no need to fuss or fret, maybe in the meantime you try new games you never would have tried before.

I'm surprised we didn't get the original Battletoads on the NES and we got the sequel instead. That'd be like getting Mega Man X instead of Mega Man 2. The writing is pretty much on the wall for the Switch at this point.

It's sad that people are excited to see a handful of Rareware games being released for NSO. I saw someone comment how "Nintendo is releasing more Rareware games then Microsoft." You mean games that came out back in 2017 plus many more for Xbox in Rare replay collection.

I didn't expect much out of this showcase. By that means, I am not upset by it. Being the Super Mario fanboy nerd that I am -- let's be real -- I didn't picture a partner showcase to really highlight my favorite red plumber. Honestly? That's totally fine. With two big, meaty Super Mario Directs from last year, I think that we have a good amount of content to last. That doesn't excuse the lack of info for Paper Mario: TTYD though. No, it wouldn't be in this kind of Direct, but how we didn't get an overview trailer or any kind of new footage on Twitter by now is odd. I _could_ get angry at the lack of new Mario stuff, but I'm going to take a more lighthearted attitude and continue playing games like Super Smash Bros. 4 and Kirby Star Allies. Those keep me a happy Mack. Good video, Demeech.

When people think about rare they of battle toads, killer instinct and donkey County. The only people who think about diddy kong racing or conker are kids raised on the N64 era of games. I don't see the obsession behind diddy kong racing it seems more like another mario kart knock off. It just one of those things made popular by the net whit memes.

Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeace looks amazing. Honestly I though it was the only game I thought looked cool.

it was better then i expected, some games are releasing right away which is good for people who have nothing to play. Many games are no longer locked to older consoldes like epic mickey, Endless ocean, and even some of the nso games. Games like the snes battle toads and killer instinct there was basically no way to play those. And couple other surprises like monster hunter stories remake, that crab game, and even gamefreaks pocket jockey (one of their better non pokemon games) were good announcements. I mean this is no masterclass direct but it was decent so 7/10 for me as well. The pokemon direct has potential to be a disaster so im not looking forward to that unless they do all spin off games and talk about the anime/trading card game and not announce another mainline as they speedrun their mainline games too much which is why they are buggy. They dont spend time polishing their games.

I liked the direct. The Penny’s Big Breakaway shadow drop, Battlefront Classic Collection, and Monster Hunter Stories were the highlights for me. I’m bummed that it seems like Hi Fi Rush isn’t coming to switch, and I was hoping for a new trailer for Sonic x Shadow Generations, but other then that, I really liked this direct

The elden ring dlc trailer is 1000x more interesting than everything shown in the partner showcase combined. Too bad nintendo makes weak ass systems and can't get ports like elden ring 🤷‍♂️

The Nintendo Direct was underwhelming.

I gotta point out real quick that this was a Partner Showcase. We weren't going to get news about the Princess Peach game or the Switch 2 or any new games from Nintendo themselves, just the companies who were helping and/or actually making them. I'll even bet that they purposely didnt announce Mother 3 for the NSO to save it for the next direct.

Actually, they treat their employees and customers pretty well. Satoru Iwata gave up half of his salary when the Wii U bombed so he wouldn’t have to lay anyone off. Japanese companies in general have better morale than American companies.
