Man. As a 27yo who’s now 7 years removed from college lacrosse, thank you for this.

Lacrosse had certainly changed😂 In 1971, my HS gym coach said “For you football players who arn’t playing baseball, the JV lacrosse team needs bodies.” Well, I knew nothing about lacrosse. But, I was a football player who did not play baseball. So, off to practice I went and it was love at first practice, wooden sticks & all. I played 15 years. The BEST NCAA Div I Final Four ever, was the first Final Four ever, held at Newark Delaware in 1986 with Hopkins, Syracuse, Virginia & N. Carolina. The best game I ever watched was Army vs Hopkins in March 1986, cold & heavy rain. Warming up Army was trying to catch & throw while Hopkins players were pkaying catch behind their heads. Army has a DEFENSE that can only be described as “Hand-to-Hand combat”. Hopkins won 8-6 Back to the 1986 Final Four, in the semi-finals, Virginia beat Syracuse and Carolina beat Hopkins in OT. In the final, Carolina beat Virginia OT.

I miss The Bitter brothers. This era was tough for unc Fans in the tourney, but they fixed everything in 2016, which I thankfully got to witness as a fan.

I was a walk on freshman in the 2012-2013 season to a club MCLA team. Fell in love with the sport. 2014 feels like a golden year and it only grew. I feel like we are getting back to that time gain 4 years removed from COVID.

I started playing in 2007, and the only lacrosse footage on KZread was the Mikey Powell's flip shot and a couple box lacrosse hits compilations. I basically had to teach myself the game and stick skills.

That first clip from college is from where I went to school at Stevenson university. That’s actually my shot you used from when I was on the video broadcast team there 😂 great video man. I miss playing lax so much.

Some corrections: The Duke team that won off of the Costa face off was the 2010 team. Think Ned Crotty and Max Quinzani, it was a “story book ending” because they were freshman when the crazy shit happened in 06. Jordan Wolf and Co. won it for Duke in 2014 Rob Pannell didn’t play college in 2014, he graduated in 2013 after getting an extra year due to injury in 2012. That’s a rare occurrence in the Ivy League.

Great points, I should have clarified that the Costa face off was in 2010. I just wanted to share Scotty Rodgers getting trashed. Thanks for the corrections

wonderful content! super enjoyable blend of historical elements, clips, analysis. As far as future content: I'd be fascinated to see a career retrospective of Canadian great Kevin Alexander. probably the best two-way midfielder i've ever seen at the international level; and put up some crazy numbers offensively. Take care!

I’m so glad you enjoyed the video! The kind words mean a lot, I can definitely add this to my ideas list. At some point I do plan on a Lacrosse hidden gems video. I’ll add his name to the research portion. Thanks for the comment!

Great video! I'm a bit confused, the clip you showed was of the 2010 finals, not the 2014 finals. Also there are 15 NLL teams currently, not 18. Otherwise great work

Thanks for the compliment, I wanted to show the goal Scotty allowed for the meme but didn’t really clarify it, and the 18 teams as opposed to the real number of 15 was just a slip up in my recording. Sorry for the confusion!

ive been think about how good the players were a long time ago because of the were done with the 90s and Michael Jordan trend. just thinking about how big of a skill gap there must be between now and then lol. great video

Could you do a video about the Riptide moving to Ottawa ? Or like a video about the lacrosse scene in the NY area incorporating that ?

  • @RockyMountainLacrosse

I certainly can! I have a history of the NLL video on the way, so I’ll do a segment on the riptide there. I also want to do a series on lacrosse in each state that’s it’s big in, New York would definitely be one of them. Thanks for the suggestions!

This was great era! But it seems every time it tries to change it gets worse not better... They should go back to focusing on their fan core and have faith the sport will keep growing on it's own merit... The more they make it a business the more it turns off real fans who actually care and follow and support the sport! Counterintuitive!

The three Thopson "brothers" you listed are two brothers and a cousin. Miles and Lyle are brothers. Ty is a cousin. Jeromy Thompson is another brother. He was all ready in the NLL with the Rush in 2014. And Hiana is also a brother.

It's obvious that the NLL has made mistakes along the way based of the teams that no longer exist. I hope the league will look at the NHL as an example of what NOT to do.

Didn’t even know what lacrosse was till my Sophmore year of high school when my friend asked me to play since I had decided I wasn’t gonna play football next year. This was in 2014 and man I went all in hitting the wall everyday and watched as the Thompson brothers changed the game and Duke winning the championship that year (I am from NC so this made me extra hype). Never got the chance to play in college but did end up playing some club and was the offensive MVP my senior year of Highschool. Currently in my 3rd of coaching and I still love it as much as the first time I ever scored a goal. Greatest sport on earth truly a gift from the Creator. ❤🥍

The current lacrosse stick technology has gone to far. Every stick has too big of a pocket...80s, 90s and early 2000s were the best eras of lax
