I was OBSESSED with D1. It was almost a lifestyle haha. I remember my favourite memories were gearing up for nightfall with your elemental gear, or spawning into the tower with 7 other players simultaneously when IB started. IB was chaos, thousands of PvE players on just for the power drops. It was a free for all. Running the lamps solo invisible on Crotas end after being useless in VoG as a Hunter main. I had to work in Qatar for 2 weeks and I remember calling my girlfriend and asking her to turn on my PS and directing her to xur just so I didn’t miss the gear. It was some of my most carefree years of my life and now, over 30 and married and with a baby… I wouldn’t change a thing from back then. I will never forget what D1 was.

Leading into the Witch Queen launch I sent a friend of mine who doesnt play Destiny a Witch Queen trailer and we started talking. I explained to him how all I want is a campaign like The Taken King. The whole introduction sets the stage amazingly. We had heard stories of and killed the son of Oryx. We knew how powerful Mara Sov was. We saw the panic and last ditch attempt to stop the oncoming wrath of Oryx in our system where Mara Sov sacrificed herself to just stop the ship. We then are being told about distress calls going out on Mars from the Cabal, a faction who has no word for retreat and here they are terrified. We land, we start walking, we crest a hill and a dying Cabal pops out (I am sure others like me shot at it assuming it was an encounter). We hear and see the outcome of a losing battle as we enter into the base and the comic horror starts kicking in with the taken void zones and I think we see a cabal being sucked into one. All the while Eris is breaking through and the whole "fingertips on my mind" and her panic instruction for us to run as the shade of Oryx spawns. I really like the Witch Queen, but man The Taken King really did it for me. Oh god the whole final mission fighting Oryx too, that reveal where you walk into a room bathed in darkness and all of a sudden that starts receding and is turns out it was just projections of his wings. So good.

You and I have very different emotional responses to D1 lol. I loved the grinding for great gear and everything. It was a badge of honor wearing something everyone knew it took forever to get. What i hated and made me leave the game until just !yesterday! was the constant change of what mattered and what was important. When light became important, suddenly everything I grinded for wasn't optimal anymore and the level rise to lvl34 let any new player start at level 20! Yea, they bypassed the hours and hours of grind and were exactly the same level as me for just starting the game. The game play was fun but each expansion cost as much as the game itself so full price or you're screwed

Destiny 1 was history in the making. I grew up leveling up my guns through the grind of xp and then they changed it, i remember like yesterday. I was so mad i grinded everything out of all the guns at the time. The way the supers and abilities were set up were kinda similar to now more than previous d2. I miss the memories made with my only friends. d1 was a different game. I remember grinding the husk and getting the crux of crota; winning trials with Invective while standing over the warlock ready for the self res; i miss going under the warsat in that one strike and entering the new area, i know you know what im talking about. I remember the 2 tap of the thorn and the only void handcannon i had was from the crota raid, how did i do it? how did i get good enough to use that crud gun and get the best in the game. I miss the challenge, not the bullet sponge but the real challenges. I miss getting a random exotic bounty knowing that whatever gun the mystery held was able to turn the tides of battle instead of tickling the balls with electricity called a Jolt. There were a lot good and a lot bad. Patience was needed beyond everything else. I fell off the ledges so the newer generation could mantle. Now i am a forgotten relic just as the black hammer or the strangers rifle.

I recently jumped into Destiny 1 with the plan of just playing the main campaign and then moving onto Destiny 2. I played Destiny 1 when it first came out, but not being able to buy any of the DLC, I was forced to drop the game shortly after because I couldn't play any of the new content with my friends. Almost 10 years later, I now know the level of excitement and awe they felt playing through the Taken King campaign and raids, and all the other DLC content. It's been so enjoyable I've stuck around FAR longer than I was planning on, and it has quickly become one of my favorite games ever.

Having my full taken armour set, with the exception of an exotic pair of boots, that allowed you to move faster when aiming. I loaded into a vanguard. I think it was one on that giant hive ship, where you'd see the cabal fighting the taken/hive. Forgot which one. But as soon as I finished my sister came home with my mom and a gift for my birthday, destiny 2. I said goodbye to taken king and rise of iron. To load into a game with the red war. God this was such a trip! Destiny changed my life, I had never played an online live MMO, never played first person and wasnt big into shooters. The only reason I got it was having huge FOMO because my group of friends who usually played The Last of Us together all started playing it. It took 3 days of me hanging out on the TLOU servers and watching them all in the same group chats before I finally gave in. I lived in a tiny boring city so not only did Destiny became a place for me to hang out with online friends, it kinda became my life - I was gently teased by co-workers that anytime I took a few days off, it was likely going to be a Destiny drop. Surprising even myself - I got really good at the game, was one of the first Warlock sword users against Crota when the rule was Hunters only, became a raid sherpa, did trials, etc. It was such a wonderful experience because there were so many communities, people, groups and pages to meet. I was part of like 7 different destiny facebook pages altogether and being the sword-bearer for a few months made me super popular. I took some time off for the Division and then missed most of 2017 until Destiny 2. I played up through The Last Wish, never started the raid though, was still grinding and then life took over. Moved to a new city, started a new relationship, began travelling and it just sort of fell out. Interestingly enough I was still a part of several facebook chat fireteams and I'd read their updates and plans every few months. My closest friend and raid co-captain texted me a few months ago to say the end was coming - I always had in the back of my head to come back before, and couldn't believe - it's actually been 10 years. I've spent the last 2 weeks binging all the story and lore points since I can't even think about getting into this game now and it feels so bittersweet - what a fucking experience. Thank you so much for this video!
