! Watch and plan where they’ll throw their shade if your climbing them upwards so they don’t shade out any other lower down veg !

I’ve got lots of these I’ve transplanted out, fine mesh on brassicas to protect from cabbage butterflies, I ended up with a few too many so I’ve left a few uncovered for the wildlife to eat, I actually get a lot of enjoyment watching caterpillars eating my broccoli! My mange tout is growing on a tepee. I will be planting French beans and carrots when I have prepared some more space for them 😊

Thank you Lucy. I normally grow more than I need so I don’t mind losing a few either. Have to net the brassicas though otherwise i’d lose the lot. It sounds like you are doing great. Kind regards. Gary

Potatoes, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries also growing. Two different Runner beans been planted into plug trays and my sweet peas are looking strong. All down to you butt👍

Thank you very much for your comment Sharon which is always appreciated. Yes, I do try some new varieties of veg each year however many of the veg that I recommend are tried and trusted varieties that I’ve grown for years. I’m pleased you like some of the varieties that I suggest. As you point out this is a really exciting time of year. Kind regards. Gary

Hi Gary, I have just discovered your channel and subscribed. Lots of useful information. I am growing Blue Lake beans as well this year, I started indoors and am willing the weather to get more consistent so they can go out. I’m going to try turnips for the first time this year, I love trying something new. Your seed storage case is really great, where did you get it?

Hi Nicki, thank you very much for your comment and a very warm welcome to the channel. I know what you mean about the weather, over the last few weeks I’ve had to bring veg inside due to the cooler temperatures, but hopefully we are getting to the point where that will be less of an issue. My seed storage case is really useful. I got it from Amazon about two years ago. If you search ‘photo storage case’ you should find a number of options. I can’t remember exactly how much I paid but I think it was around £20. Kind regards. Gary

@@TheAllotmentGardenandKitchen Thanks very much for the welcome and the info, I’ll definitely look for the storage box, mine are just stuffed into boxes and I have to get all the packets out just to find what I’m looking for, I feel the need to get more organised 😄

Thanks for the video. Do you always grow in raised beds or do you use in ground beds too? I am a new gardener and want to avoid the cost of raised beds. So I plan to plant in bed after germination in my greenhouse

  • @TheAllotmentGardenandKitchen

Thank you very much for your message. If you look at my previous videos you will see that I favour growing directly into the ground over raised beds, however I’m currently converting part of my garden into veg growing spaces and ived installed a few raised beds first. The other part of my garden will not have raised beds and i’m just in the process of clearing that area. There are advantages and disadvantages of using raised beds and as you point out they can be expensive to fill for the first time if you have to buy the compost. There is a video on my channel on the pros and cons of using raised beds and there are a number of videos showing you how to make your own compost so check these out when you have time. Kind regards. Gary

Hi Kaitlin and thank you for your comment. I’ve just checked and it is still possible to plant loads of different veg in your growing zone. Check the back of the seed packets to see what you can sow, however there is still likely to be a wide selection. Kind regards. Gary

There are a few videos on my channel about how to use and install netting so check those out if you have time. Kind regards. Gary
