What to Pack (and not pack) For Grenada | SGU Students | What to Bring

With the anticipated August 2021 return, I've made this longer video to discuss what to bring and what not to bring as students prepare to pack to come back to or move to Grenada. I hope you listen all the way through as I touch on appliances, shipping cargo and barrels down, an update on pet travel, and more!

    I watched the whole video and I understand where you're coming from. But there are a few things I want to clear up. SGU students tend to frequent the Grand Anse area which happens to be one of our primary tourist areas (I'm Grenadian), therefore prices are generally higher than anywhere else in Grenada. I'd advise any student to get out of Grand Anse and try doing some shopping in St. George's, the capital. Prices are a LOT lower for most of the items you listed. Grand anse vs St. George's is like Manhattan vs Queens for those that know New York. Transformers - good idea. They're expensive here. Pay attention to the wattage requirements not just the voltage. Pillows - Good affordable ones in St. George's or Grenville. Utensils - Cheap outside of Grand Anse Computers - You're taxed 5% on computers for personal use. But that's only if you ship it in though a courier, eg. Fedex. You're not charged anything for your personal computer that you bring in yourself. Adaptors - to be more specific, the electricity provider here supplies 240V. And we also generally use the British electrical standards. so it's good advice to pay attention to the voltage requirements of any appliance you bring in. But, those adaptors you mentioned are dirt cheap here on island (not in Grand Anse though, lol). Maybe carry 1 or 2 for your immediate needs, but you can find them all over Grenada. Toiletries - Only if you're really attached to a specific brand. Honestly though, you're most likely going to find equal or better quality alternatives. $30 for braids????? You're definitely hanging around in Grand Anse. Apple stuff, other computer accesories - Get out of Grand Anse! Ok... I can go on but honestly.... I guess the point is, get outside of Grand Anse if you want to save money. Hope I didn't come off negative. You seem to love my island and I'm truly happy about that. All the best!

    I've definitely gotten out of Grand Anse and 100% agree with you. BUT most students don't stray outside of this region. I get why they should (trust me, I can't count how many times I've shopped in town and away from Grand Anse) but most students do. I try to make my videos good for the most novice student and for typical conveniences. I know there's cheaper because I've bought cheaper.Many students don't drive and aren't willing to take the local buses. They only rely on SGU buses, so I try to help those students with is a large majority of non-Grenadian students. No SGU student is ever taxed on electronics or pretty much anything taxed in luggage, but all of my videos I speak from experience and to answer questions from the common student. I feel like there's always other options, and I leave Grand Anse often, but again, I make my videos too for the average SGU student. For those that venture out, they know they find better deals elsewhere but I try to assure the ones who are less adventurous they can get what they still need

    @@BrittneyKilgore Woy! You're on point. lol. I understand your point about the goal of your advice. But as you said though, Grenada's a safe place to be. So maybe when you get here again (if you're not here already), enoucrage these same novice students to venture out a bit more. Help them to enjoy this beautiful country! Again, thank you for being someone who seems to love my island. Love it, and it will love you back.... tha sounds corny.... but you get the point. cheers!

Maybe if you know of any changes regarding travelling to the US in light of Covid/vaccines and other things that visitors should know about, that would be great! Looking forward to seeing you in August.

We've seen your video about where to get food on and off campus, but did you do a video (or can you tell us) about where to get other items on campus or off such as plates, utensils, clothes, etc.? If you're coming from the US, what we think of clothing stores are hard to come by and I'd recommend bringing what you need. As far as plates, utensils, etc can be found nextdoor to the IGA grocery store at the HomeBest store or there's an Ace Hardware that literally sells any and everything you could need around the house. it's like a mini walmart/target. The SGU convenience store mostly has food and toiletries

    Yes its pretty close. By car from my apartment or by bus from campus its about 10 mins if that (pending traffic/time of day). If you live off campus without a car, it may be a little longer since you may have to bus hop onto the campus route that goes to the grocery store vs the one that goes to your apartment but you learn to judge the scheduled times

    Hello, Brittney! I was wondering how your cat does while flying? I am planning to bring my cat with me to the island, and am worried how he's gonna do with the air time. My airport doesn't have direct flights which means I'd have to have at least one layover in Dallas and then another to a city that might offer a direct flight, but do you give him anything to reduce stress?

  • @BrittneyKilgore

    @BrittneyKilgore

    3 жыл бұрын

    Gabapentin is usually what most vets prescribe cats traveling. My cat was not having it the first couple of times we flew haha and he does fine without it. I started traveling with him as a kitten so he does well in his carrier in general. I'd recommend putting a pee pad (or 2) in his carrier. That way if he goes, you can easily just remove the pee pad without having to take him all of the way out. most cats wont eat/drink so I never really try feeding him, but I do bring a can and ziplock of food in case for some reaosn my checked bag gets lost or delayed. but yeah. I'd ask about Cerenia or ondasetron for nausea and gabapentin for traveling from your vet :)
