This is wrong. Yes SOME restaurants won't add ice and/or lemon to a jug of water but loads do. Also its totally acceptable to customize your order! In the current times of allergies and food intolerances of course you can ask for no cheese in your burger or the sauce on the side etc. As for doggy bags - I have asked for what I don't finish to take away. I may not always use the term 'doggy bag' but its rarely an issue. Tipping is the main difference, especially between USA and UK so more info on that would probably have been helpful.

Sorry you disagree but appreciate your honesty and the time you took to make a comment. Even though I ask to take food at a restaurant if there is a lot left, I always feel sheepish when I do it. Do you really feel it’s normal in the UK to ask? I have a separate video on tipping so I didn’t want to be repetitive. But, do you think one of just restaurants would be beneficial?

@@Sunny_in_London thanks for replying :) It's food you've paid for and it will usually go in the bin in the kitchen so I honestly think it's fine to ask for it. Maybe in the past this may have been taboo but now people are more used to it. Especially as many people are aware of have travelled to the US where it's common practice. I am newly subscribed so will check out your tipping post so thanks for that too.

Love your reply and am still thinking about your comment. Do you think it’s the new interest in sustainability that may be changing our perception? I admit- the doggie bag perception came from a discussion I had with my in-laws when I first moved here six years ago and maybe they were thinking through what was common a few decades ago.

Hi, Sunny, very interesting video, it is surprising the differences between the US and here. The differences in tipping practices here and in the US could make a video on its own. I prefer giving the tip personally rather than having a service charge. From what I've read it confuses quite a few people. Looking forward to your next video soon.

I am confused about a PIN number for credit cards. A debit card has a PIN number but I’ve never heard of a credit card PIN number. Coming to London in October and have found your pods helpful!

Hi Robert! You will absolutely need your PIN number for credit cards here. Best to get in touch with your credit card companies to request help. They may need to mail you Info so do it now before it’s too close to your trip. My husband literally had to intervene and help a Spanish tourist the other day who only had cash with her at Arabica restaurant in London Bridge.

Hi Sunny. Maybe I'm wrong, but I get the impression you posted this just because you felt you should post SOMETHING. It seemed a bit rushed, also, to be honest. That's not like you. You're always so precise, detailed, considered, objective and succinct, while vlogging at length (if that's not a contradiction in terms!). Just tell everybody to subscribe, click onto your Playlists and binge watch your 100+ videos! LOL. All the best to you.

Cheers! I actually had this video planned for over two months but was waiting for a location that would be a better fit that in front of my computer at home! I was trying to keep it short so I wasn’t waffling about useless stuff. Good to know people want longer content. Truly appreciate the feedback! It’s shorter than normal and is getting more views faster on the first night than others this year- but the feedback is that it isn’t long enough! KZread can be so tricky!!

I would think British people would find service in American restaurants a bit patronizing, but that's just because they're used to bad or no service - but as far as service in American restaurants, some of it does seem patronizing and fake, but I think the trick is not to go overboard with all the smiling and greeting, there's a just right amount of smiling and greeting to make it at least seem genuine and not patronizing

I hate the mayonnaise sandwiches in London. And I dare not ask for spicy mustard either. And I will never again order a Pepsi at a pub.

Wow! I have a video coming up on food differences and a guide to British food that I was going to send email subscribers. One of the things I was going to mention was butter and mayonnaise on sandwiches. When my mother was here in April, I was reminded of how different things as common as sandwiches can be between the two countries.
