    As a couple others have mentioned, in competition the centering should never be right in front of the driver unless the left is far outside the vehicle, which the video did mention. However, only one competition car on the circuit remotely comes close to that and it still doesn't have the center in front of the driver. Center of car was only correct for MECA. MASQ, IASCA and EMMA use center of stage, which requires finding the boundaries, i.e. left and right. Judging appearance is false as well. That is install judging and it a separate entry category for competition purposes unless you are in the top classes in some orgs in which case install is required. Some, like MASQ (of which I am co-owner) have a very simplified mandatory install but just covers safety (fusing), general fit and finish (does it look finished) and that sort of thing. It does not have to look factory, it does not have to be fancy or anything of the sort. Having said that, please do have a fairly clean vehicle interior. Getting into a dirty interior with junk everywhere is distracting and frankly inconsiderate. It does not have to be highly detailed, but make some minor effort. Also, we don't start cars anymore. That hasn't happened in several years. The only time cars are run is when we are judging in the summer and we run the car for AC purposes. Sitting in a hot car sweating is no fun at all. It is correct that the only thing a judge will touch is the volume and track selection. The exception here is EMMA which has the competitor set the volume, otherwise the judge does it and in general is in the 85-90db range, give or take. as a final thought, if anyone does want to get into competition, go to one. Go to several if you can. Get as many demos as you can. Almost every competitor today will demo their car for you unless they know they have a judge about to get to them. Even the big dogs out there love to demo their vehicles. If you aren't sure who owns what, ask anybody or ask a judge if you see one (we are usually wearing shirts with "judge" on them somewhere). Seriously, it is a fairly small community and if the person you ask doesn't know who owns car X, they'll know who does or find out for you.

    You cannot change the sound field, mix, balance of recorded music. The panning of each individual track on a recording can't be altered once Recorded. You can only adjust the overall balance (L+R) and EQ.

    correct however through creative use of individual channel eq, you CAN change the perceived sound stage. which is exactly how you get a fairly centered image in a movie theater.

    @@stormforge68 only vaguely. you _can_ do it with eq at the expense of screwing up your imaging. You mostly get it via time alignment and _some_ eq. However that _not_ how you get it in a movie theater, those use dedicated center channel speakers. Theaters don't have "fairly centered" images, they have exactly centered images due to the dedicated output.

    If I understood you correctly, you said center stage was directly in front of you. The center of the dash is center stage.

  • @CarAudioEnthusiasts

    @CarAudioEnthusiasts

    10 ай бұрын

    well that depends, the center of the dash is center stage IF youre doing a 2 seat tune, but for a driver tune, the area over the steering wheel is center stage.

  • @Kicker700

    Center stage is the mid point between the left and right boundaries. There is more to it than just physical location. But for general idea center is center of dash, doesn't matter single or two seat. If you are one of those people who say why would you sit off center? If the center image was over the steering wheel then what left stage is apillar or just left of it? So maybe 12"-16" from steering wheel?. Where is right stage? 12"-16" to the right? That's a small stage... If it's at the right pillar then your center is not centered...

    the virtual center can be moved to any spot, boundaries are not important. this is why time alignment exist. IF youre tuning for a drivers seat tune. you can make it SEEM like the stage is centered in FRONT of the driver. most people have not heard a car set up this way, it's kinda freaky. most people are accustomed to the center of the dash being the stage, so they can't imagine hearing the center in front of them. but yes it is a thing. also it IS the thing SQ judges are looking for. also also it's not easy to do. @@Kicker700

    Like the vids but this is totally untrue, judges are looking for the center image to be in the center of the dash. At least iasca, meca , Emma , and the Wca do .

    @@CarAudioEnthusiasts I appreciate you trying to educate future and/or current sq enthusiasts. I am a IASCA judge and your center info you are giving is incorrect. center needs to be center of soundstage. boundaries ARE important. center is determined by your left and right position. If your center is in front of you, your left boundary is way outside the vehicle. if not, your stage is off. left of center,LC and right of center, RC will not be positioned correctly in your description. Not bashing here, just correcting what you have been told.

    Couple questions: Center stage is directly in front of the driver. Can this be achieved with only a center midrange speaker? And is rear fill and bass timed for both front seats, or just the driver (if possible)?

  • @CarAudioEnthusiasts

    @CarAudioEnthusiasts

    center midrange isnt needed, but can be used. it's tricky though. as for rear fill, this is a polarizing topic, some like it some dont some dont care, but as for timing, you can tune it for center between seats, or tune it for driver. subs have such a long wave they can be just tunes time wise to the front of the car, in fact i usually juat flip the phase on the subs and that gets em pretty close
