What to Expect During an Abdominal Ultrasound
Ultrasound uses sound waves to visualize and assess your abdominal organs, including the aorta, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, kidneys, and spleen. Multiple still images are taken to represent the location, texture, and blood flow of each organ.
It may be ordered to investigate pain, swelling, or other symptoms, and can be the first step in determining the cause for symptoms affecting the soft tissues of the body.

This was so appreciated! Thank you! I got one coming up 10/25...But all that and it isn't gonna tell me the sex of my baby?! All for fun!
Did she have to go in fasting and have 6 cups of water an hour before? My office is requesting it and I'm currently going through female incontinence at age 41 especially when I'm on my menstrual cycle I really can't hold my urine and the receptionness at her job is really something.. she's horrible and doesn't care. Do I really need that much water? I don't understand

Hi @marleanamarlianamont5939, thank you for your question. In order for the sonographers to obtain the best possible images, patients do need to fast and have a fully distended bladder. We understand that this isn't always possible and our technologists will work with you to find solutions to these obstacles. One option is to come to your appointment early and drink the 1 litre of water in the clinic. That way as soon as your bladder fills and you feel that you can no longer wait, you can alert the front desk and we can try to obtain the required images expeditiously to preserve your comfort. Please email us a patientservices@radiology.ca if you have further questions. Thank you.
