I dreaded MEPS and was pretty nervous about it. More so than basic since it doesn't rely on your ability, but on if your body is acceptable. Everyone described it as something that you're treated like a child, having orders barked at you sometimes, all these procedures and it takes all day and it's this grueling process... But honestly, it was nothing. It was a cake walk. The worst part was the bus ride there, because it was cold and just as the heater on the bus started warming up our feet we were there and had to get off into the cold. No one yelled, everyone was really chill and relaxed, getting blood drawn was stupid easy, needles aren't as large as I remember them as a kid, the underwear olympics and duck walk was a breeze, they're SUPER lax on the duck walk. One guy couldn't do it correctly at all and he was still given a green light. The turn your head and cough portion with the doctor goes so fast that it's over before you can even really comprehend it. Hearing and vision tests we've all done before in school or when getting glasses. It's all easy. We got there at around 6am and we were finished at 11am, and had to wait in the rec room until 3:30pm for shuttle rides home. Had a decent free lunch and just played games, Xbox, Pool, shot the shit for that last 4 hours

Hello! I’m interested in joining the Air Force and I actually have an upcoming appointment with a Recruiter. I was wondering, will occasionally lower back pain (I have mild scoliosis and I have had the epidural twice) disqualify me? Also, I have never been diagnosed with anything, but my knees are not the greatest. I have hurt my knee before, but the pain goes away within a few days. I do workout 5 days a week and do heavy lifting, so I think the physical part is not an issue.

When I went to my navy Requiter I was 12 pounds over the weight limit, they then after that check your measurements to decide what your body fat percentage is, as more muscle mass could possibly make you weigh more than the limit, if your body fat % is in the good range they’ll take you, if not, which mine wasn’t, they just told me to try to get the weight down and then come back, but it could be different for Air Force, hope this helps.

Mikayla is correct in that there is a basic criminal history check of all enlistees. However, different jobs will have different levels of background checks depending on the security classification of the information you will need access to (Classified, Secret, Top Secret). If you will be accessing Top Secret information as part of your job, you can expect a very thorough background check. If your job requires you to be around sensitive components, like chemical or nuclear materials, you may be placed on “PRP” which is the Personnel Reliability Program. This program continuously evaluates every aspect of your life both at work and at home, but like Mikayla said, some jobs require more sacrifices than others.
