This video is such an excellent overview although it skates over how terrible the moderate (difficult) stage is for many carers. As an isolated caregiver, I am burned out, lonely, and depressed while my spouse is ten years into his dementia, and likely to outlive me. He is the healthiest person I know, and has become the meanest. The stress caused by dementia is a killer for caregivers.

Feel so bad for you. Most sadly is the fact that many folks with dementia outlive their caregivers bc they have turned into self centered selfish mean folks and don’t care a wit about others. Thus all their energy is about them and the caregiver is the one who suffers!!!

I am at my wit's end for this very reason. My spouse is nine years into his dementia..I have several health problems of my own. His dementia is moderate so neither one thing nor the other. Gone are the days when we can spend quality time together. Even carers in homes get breaks but the demands on a home carer are 24/7 and relentless. I long for the days when I will get my life back but unfortunately he is likely to outlive me. I am isolated, lonely and fluctuate in and out if severe depression. No one seems to care for the health of the carer and " friends" drop away and don't want to visit when you are caring. How much longer I can carry on I do not know

You are not alone. The last few years have been a nightmare for me (as a caregiver for my father), but this burden and responsibility has led me back to prayer and bible study, which has given me renewed hope and seeing the glorious Light at the end of the tunnel. I don't feel alone anymore, May you find that Light as well.

I am the patient in this case. I'm sending this video to my kids. I love the way you explained explained every stage. I'm mild stage but I'm having a lot of difficulty difficulty with my words. If I close my eyes I can se a full frase but it won't come out and frustration will take over. I have good days and bad days. All I want to do is sleep. I was a heavy reader. I can no longer read. In order to do it I have to read the last chapter all over to get an idea what it was. I don't like audible books. I fall sleep. I clor on my tablet, I watch TV. You made my day. I will continue watching your videos. You made a difference . God bless you all and continued helping g people like me and caregivers. God bless you all ❤

Thank you so much for your voice coming from the other side I’m so sorry you’re having to suffer from this disease and having to deal with the frustrations that come along with it. Wishing you and your family well❤️‍🩹 If you don’t mind me asking I found it interesting when you said if you close your eyes you can see a phrase in your mind that you want to express but you can’t- did I understand that correctly? And if so, could you elaborate a little bit for me on that? I was also curious if this happens quite often or just from time to time. I found this interesting because when I’m talking to my mom I sometimes wonder if she’s sitting there silent but truly wants to say something or comment to what I’m saying, but she can’t. Is this what you were trying to say? I also find it interesting that you can possibly express your thoughts in writing much easier than you can speaking them outloud- did I understand that correctly as well?

Thank you so much for this kind and compassionate explanation of the stages of dementia. I have a very dear old friend (actually my 1st true love! Last time we saw each other was 30 years ago), and we have recently been reunited because his daughter saw my message to him on his Facebook page. He has dementia, along with several other health conditions. The dementia is so heartbreaking, because it is hard to see that hardworking, vibrant person he used to be, now unable to think clearly or do most things for himself anymore. He is living with one of his sons and daughter-in-law in home hospice. I am so grateful to the Lord that he has a very loving family (5 children and lots of extended family) and they are all participating in his care. There is no way they would put him in a nursing home, ever! I am over the moon that he still remembers me very clearly, and he knows exactly who I am. I'll never forget the way his face lit up when we talked on a Facebook video call, and a week later, when I got to finally visit him in person. He is all smiles whenever I am around, and he tells me constantly that he loves me, and I am beautiful. They say he's in end-stage dementia, but he continues to talk a lot. He does repeat himself over and over on certain subjects, and he forgets that I know his children. But so far he hasn't forgotten who the important people are in his life, and he still has a great sense of humor! His memory is strong on certain things, but not on others. He needs a lot of assistance with ADL, like hygiene and eating. He's lost a lot of weight, because he loses interest in food after a few bites. I've noticed smaller portions more frequently seem to work better for him than a whole plate of food. I'm so sad that this has happened to my long-lost love, but I am grateful to be able to be here for him at this time. He lives only a few hours drive from me, so I have been going every week since before Christmas, and I stay a few days each visit. I know that God has brought us back together at this particular time for a purpose. His daughter said 5 years ago he asked her to help him find me, and interestingly that was about the same time I started searching for him, too. I stupidly broke up with him 30 years ago, and I regret it. I wish I could change the past, but I can't. God is giving me a chance now, though, to help him and be there for him. I am grateful for that, thank you Jesus!

Honestly, what an amazing presentation. My mum is in late stage Alzheimer's, and you really hit the nail on the head. Some things just didn't make sense to me but now I understand. Also, mum is non-verbal so we often just sit and hold hands. I actually felt guilty that I didn't know what to say and it's so true, there is no need to say anything at all. Mum actually relaxes and sits with me as opposed to non-stop walking, day and night, when I'm not around. No-one goes to see her anymore, even our immediate family. I understand why they find it difficult but education is key, hence why I found your presentation so helpful. Thank you for sharing.

My journey of this horrible disease with my mother has just begun. Luckily, I had POA, Advance Directives and a will done prior to her diagnosis. You should also have one done for yourself (caregiver) and appoint someone in the case that your loved one lives beyond the caregiver. Find someone to talk to. Your doctor, therapist, pastor, support group, friend. Sometimes, Im standing in line and God will send an angel to start a conversation. 30 minutes later Ive just unloaded everything. Take time for yourself even if it's a min of just breathing. 🙏🏽

I'm just finding your channel. I will share it with my ALZ support group. What I am finding with my loved one is that in her care home they seem to be more hands off the more hospice becomes involved. There is a great need for staff to have continuing education on dementia care because in the past not as much was known when many nurses were in training. I feel my loved one is treated as less of a person because of her deficits. I hope in the future administrators and owners of care facilities invest in training for their staffs.

One symptom I don't think you mentioned is bad decision making. I think this should be a symptom,, but I only realized this after the fact. My dad suddenly decided to sell his house and sold it fast. Even though we had no clue he was getting dementia. It caused some big issues because he didn't think it through. He wanted to move to his hometown even though he had no family there anymore. This was dad's most blatant symptom we didn't recognize.

Thank you so much for this video. I am a caregiver for my beautiful husband with vascular dementia. The stages are confusing for me because so many overlap for him. He's needed help with personal grooming, toileting and so many other things for a couple of years now. This video has helped me understand so much. Thank you again

Ever heard of Therapeutic Ketosis? Keto is not a diet, it is a metabolic state. It has been proven effective in treating many different mental and overall health conditions. Don't trust your physician, dietitian or nutritionist to understand the therapy...their training curriculum was developed by corrupt pharmaceutical and food corporations 😮 I'm praying this message inspires YOU to keep believing there is hope!
