I got waitlisted at ucsd but they don’t specify if a loci is allowed of not. I don’t wanna make a mistake but I still want to prove my interest in it. I’m very confused :(

Hmm maybe see if there is any information on your applicant portal, like where you choose to accept or decline the waitlist offer, there may be an option to submit extra materials. If you can’t find any information saying whether supplemental materials are accepted or not, you could give the admissions office a call or email to inquire whether they will accept LOCIs and how you can submit one. Many people told me that I should keep myself relevant to the admissions officers after I submit my LOCI by emailing them to give them any updates. Would you recommend emailing them every few weeks or does that come off as being annoying? (Specifically for UC Berkeley, that’s where I got waitlisted)

Hi Osama! Personally, I would not email the admissions officer unless something super big happened. I believe Berkeley says that they will have all decisions back to you by June 1st, so if you emailed them every 2 weeks or so, you would probably have your decision back already. If something drastic has changed since your LOCI submission, then definitely email! But personally, I wouldn't email because between the LOCI deadline and when waitlist offers are announced, it is only like 1 - 1.5 months. Hope this helps!

if i get waitlisted will colleges see my second semester grades or only my first if i choose to include it in my LOCI? Also, can you please do a video on your LOCIs it would be very helpful :)

I definitely can make a LOCI video! Is your second semester happening right now? As in the grades have not been finalized yet? If so, the waitlisted colleges would only see your updated transcript thus far - so like my high school was split into 4 quarters, 2 in fall and 2 in spring. So for my waitlisted schools, they got updated by seeing 3 of my senior year quarter grades, since the last quarter is happening right now. However, if you are accepted, the college will ask you to send your entire year transcript after your school ended. Hope this helps! ☺️

@@alinahuang1707 it shouldn’t matter when you accept the waitlist offer as long as you opt in before the deadline they give you! Be careful, because the waitlist deadline may be different between colleges, so have all those dates noted. Colleges will likely not send offers to students on the waitlist until after May 1, the national deadline to commit to a college, so after that date they can assess their incoming class then make waitlist offers. ☺️

What about undeclared engineering waitlists at UC Berkeley?

It would be a similar process where you would have to opt into the waitlist and have the option to submit the LOCI (the 500 word essay). However, the College of Engineering waitlist is a lot more competitive because Engineering admits by major. CoE also has specific undergraduate enrollment limits per major, which adds to the competitiveness. Versus, students in the College of Letters and Science all come into Berkeley as undeclared, no matter what major you put that you were interested in. For L&S you have to take the prerequisite courses before you declare a major, but if you’re admitted to CoE, you start Berkeley day 1 with a declared major. Hope this helps!

@@devanshithakkar3919 Yeah! I think it also depends on how many students accept their offer, which would then help determine the number of students they will offer from the waitlist!
