"Learn all the names of BTS members. You already did that, didn't you?" 🤣😂 im dead
I'd say one thing that's left is practice the pronunciation, it's REALLY important, right up from the beginning. Unless you only want to be able to write with people, you want them to actually understand you. Whatever language you're learning, practice the pronunciation. Actually put effort into it. Look up the tongue position for the sounds. Look at how they move their lips when they say stuff. *Practice*. I know people who've lived in my country for 20 years and they have such a heavy accent it's impossible to understand them unless you're concentrating real hard and know how to guess from context. You don't wanna be that person.

Yes, pronunciation is super important to learn from the very beginning. I made a few videos about pronunciation that you can find on my channel too. In one of them I also mention that learning in the beginning is easier than trying to fix mistakes later on.
That BTS comment had me laughing too hard. 👍
Basically, after learning 하얼, you have to learn: Numbers Counters Colours Telling the Time Particles Sentence Structure Verb Endings Politeness Levels Conjugation 요 form And Honorifics Hope this helped :)

After 한글 [Hangeul], I will recommend learning the most basic batchim rules, Topic marking particles and subject marking particles, then conjugating in the 요 form. And then you might learn some expressions to use in your daily life :)
Billy : Learn the names of all BTS members Meanwhile me : that was the first step lol 😅
"...'sup Hyunwoo" ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 🤣 Well... I'm clearly a weirdo... I love my physical paper Korean dictionaries... Yes dictionaries... Plural LOL * facepalm * (some are definitely better than others, as so many use romanization making it tricky to look up a new word in Korean) I have luckily been able to get hold of a Minjungs essence dictionary, which i think is really aimed at Koreans learning English. Soooo much better! But to be fair... Internet... So helpful 😋 I've also got a collection of Korean childrens story books to practise my reading. I figure that when we were little we would read short stories to help us along... And the pictures are so pretty... 😅 ... The wonders of eBay huh? I think it took me a couple of months after initially learning 한글 to stop mixing up the letters and pronunciation. ... probably a further 4 months until I'd really got a hang of the sound change rules... They still catch me out sometimes. I love your books Billy, you're a great teacher, keep up the good work 😉 I have a very long way to go, but I'm getting... Somewhere 👌 빌리 선생님 수고했어요 진짜 감사합니다 😊

Naver is a decent dictionary, but I wish they did a little more. Such as, when translating from Korean to English, include both English and Korean definitions, along with the audio examples for both for pronunciation practice.
If I was Keykat, I'd feel so attacked... The tip that was missing from my learning journey was having someone to practice with. I didn't start doing that till almost 2 years after I had started learning

@mr_godman neither can I 😢
I've been using Lingodeer and TTMIK for now to get the basics down. My note taking sucks and leaves a lot to be desired, but I figure keeping a list of words and phrases handy and writing them will help me remember. That and I watch Korean Dramas/variety shows for context, if I hear a word in those shows it helps me remember it a lot more easily. Afterwards I run it back and look for some words I didn't know, not while I watch tho cuz that would ruin the enjoyment of the episode. I'm on 호텔 델루나 right now, highly recommend it:) Oh and Papago, I've been using Papago a lot lately after I saw a Korean streamer on Twitch using it.
@GoBillyKorean

I'd avoid Papago translator for anything other than a curiosity (it's fun, but not reliable). I've often found it to be just as bad as Google Translate.
Can’t agree enough about finding content and/or lessons about things that interest you. I have korean lists for pets and animals, DIY, other language learning, food, health, sleep, etc filled with videos for koreans and/or for learner. When i understand something im very proud and its very useful and entertaining. My first resource was the FSI korean course from like the 80s so i learned a whole bunch of military ranks and what super polite to the president type speech. But even so going through it, useless military vocabulary and all, gave me a nice base for korean and taught me concepts that I dont see so early on in other courses. I find trying to journal helps me find some of the gaps in what I know vs things I’m likely to say.
I want to buy all of your books but they're a bit much for me. Would you consider doing a bundle special for the upcoming holidays? Maybe I'll be able to save up and get that "Special bundle" for myself as a nice Christmas present!!! 😁
This topic is great.
Thanks
Every morning, when I take our cat for a long walk in the forest, I listen to a youtube audiobook, "The little prince" in Korean. She reads slowly and carefully, and this gives me a chance to really get a feel for the rythm and sounds. Being hearing impaired, videos with a lot of "happy background-music" make me unhappy. (You hear that, all creators?) I can't hear a thing. But with this habit, I'm getting the hang of Korean. When learning language, I've always felt that grammar should be dessert, not starter.
"You've already done that last one haven't you?" he knows us🙂🤣🤣

It took me alot longer then 2 hours to learn hungul. I hear you go on about it a lot and it just makes me feel bad about it. Same thing with the "it took you 8 times to learn hello? " it didn't take me 8 times but it took me a little while to feel comfortable saying it.
So when groups have a comeback I like to try and read the lyrics and sometimes try to sing along even though most of the time they are way faster than me haha like today wonderland came out and I sing the on my my way 가자 and 뛰어 so yeah I’m just practicing my reading and speech right now

TTMIK + korean class is best. Trust.
I have just started learning korean and just finished learning hangul. Only issue is I don't have a pen pal SO instead I'm gonna practice with and old Korean couple who want to teach me
I've been learning Korean on and off for 5 years now, and when you asked what was next after hangeul, my brain immediately went to hanja... this is what I get for studying Japanese first! But in all seriousness, hanja can be really useful to learn sometimes. Knowing the origins for Korea's loanwords over the centuries can help so much with conjugation and vocabulary, and can help make those logical connections between similar words that otherwise would just "sound similar but take up separate spots in my head," so to speak. Not to mention, if you go to Korea they'll sometimes throw in a Chinese symbol or two on a billboard or sign for the extra clarification it brings. After quitting Japanese because I found kanji too hard, I never imagined I'd be sitting here actually recommending it and enjoying it for Korean...
“You’ve already done that last one haven’t you?” NOOO STOP CALLING ME OUT AAAAA
