It's a problem that affects 1 in 3 archers. AND EVEN SOMETIMES A 1/3. Thank you so much for this crucial information.

Very new archer if I can even say that. Just started shooting after I made my first bow with backyard bowers help and now I'm the proud owner of a samick sage and my son a carsage, lol. We both can hit pretty consistently at 25 yards a 9 inch circle . You and Jeff Kavanagh have contributed so much to our development. This video though really was the icing on the cake after so much work with the release and second anchor point that you and Jeff recommend. I didn't realize how tight my nock were . Now I'm hitting very tight straight up and down and the bow is so much quieter! Thanks for all your help and may all your arrows fly true!

I literally picked up a bow for the first time today to screw around with and it seemed way too tight, but for all I knew that's how it was supposed to be. I screwed around with a file on the nock for about 5 minutes before giving it up as a lost cause and thinking I needed a different string or something. Then I found this video! Saved my weekend dude!

Great Idea, thanks, I was not aware of how wide spread this problem is, up to a third of us archers I found one nock that fit good and measured it with a feeler gauge. I then used a heat gun to heat the nock (maybe 15 seconds). I inserted the feeler gauge and then when I could, I would press the tips together with my fingers.

Jim, Thanks for the video and great tip. For those of us new to the sport, we sometimes feel silly asking questions about nock size and differences for type, etc. (Do I really need to get some lighted nocks?) I must admit, I thought that load snap from my arrows was reassuring. Now I know better. Please keep the good advice, knowledge and humor coming.

Jim great idea, i just worked on my knocks but added something. I found something the right thickness, for me it was the chrome parts on the end of my bow square that fit over the string. I placed 1 cup of hot water and 1 cup of ice water in front of me . Put 2 knocks on each end of square, place 1 end in hot water and let set propped up. Maybe 2 minutes flip to the other 2 and do the same. 2 minutes and i do the same in the ice water and they are set.

Thanks for the great tip. Put a new string on and the nock was so tight it was pulled off the arrow when I shot it. Also, very erratic arrow flight.

Thanks for this! I ordered some training arrows and the nocks are loose for my string, I'll do the reverse method and see if it helps and my arrow won't fall off when I do a three-under finger pull.

I have a question: does the arrow always (no matter the bow or arrow) have to fall out if you just tap it? I do another type of archery (with blunt arrows and the targets are plastic blocks with coloured feathers that we have to knock off pins). Everybody always told me that the arrow isn't allowed to fall out if you tap it... (in our club, most of us use compound bows, so I don't know if that makes a difference or not)

Gonna try this tonight. Ive always handtuned(sand my nocks) my nocks on my compound bow. Take a course file to get it roughly where you want it. Then take emery boards of finer and finer grades to bring the inside and throat of the nocks to a slick glasslike polish so they come off the string with the least amount of friction but also so they dont just fall off the string. ts time comsuming to hand tune but I enjoy it. Its almost like getting more connected with my bow and arrows.

I just put a new fast flight string on my bow. I shoot instinctive. All of a sudden i was shooting 8 to 12 inches low. I tried brace height i tried taking silencers off the string then i realized my serving was thicker than previous string. Put my old string on and instantly was shooting where i wanted. My knocks were real tight. Lesson learned. Now do i need to have new serving put on or is there a fix it trick?

I tried this with my Gold Tip nocks, but it doesn't work. I think it's the type of plastic they're made of. What kind of nocks do you use, that allows this? My nocks are really tough on my serving. :-(

TNS, I hate when that happens. I Liked this, I make my own bowstrings and my new nocks are normally too tight so I take the file to them to make the release smoother. Problem is that the nock is weakened, and will sometimes break under stress, not good. Great! I mean the part about DYI making coffee..... :- )

I use sandpaper to scrape and widen the inside, i know you will say that this will make the nocks fragile and make it more prone to braking, but i've been using my arrows with "modified nocks for 3 months and nothing happened yet so...

Have to completely disagree with this method. Firstly you can weaken the plastic and the effect depends on which plastic, as there are several.Secondly by wagling the bowsquare in the nock you may well have opened one side more than the other and this is worse than having a bent arrow.
