My practice tip: check the timerbelt in the first place. In a dispute with my sun we replaced distributor ECU igniter and some other parts from my MR2. Scope used at last and then my son told me the rotor did not rotate, I did ask him to check that before, but no it was certainly an electric issue. And yes the timer belt appeared to has broken. 4 months later and some euros poorer we tackled at last/least the problem. He is a learned automotive technician. At school they are teached the wrong sequence around,

So if it doesn’t spin then the timing belt is broken or malfunctioning

Today I finally figured out the root cause off my 93 corolla randomly shutting off on me at lights, slow traffic, stop signs, etc. (And sometimes leaving me stranded!) It was the distributer rotor! A tiny $10 part! It was pitted and burned really bad at the perimeter contact. I sure wish that had been the 1st thing I suspected, and not the last : / The 1st thing I had suspected was the fuel pump. Replaced it, Just knew that had to be it. Nope. Symptoms started again within a few days. Fuel pump relay? Nope again. 3rd thing I blamed was the fuel pressure regulator. Replaced it. Nope again. 4th suspect was the idle air control (IAC) valve. That just had to be it, Right?! Replaced it. Nope again. I almost cried. Finally, I looked at the distributer and all its components, the rotor first because I have a 1972 vw beetle I've owned since 1981. It did need a new rotor once in a while. (But it never cause me to get stranded!). So I checked the rotor. It was so easy to check! I thought it woudl be really involved. Sure enough, the rotor tip was pitted and burnt really bad. I filed off the black stuff and pits, put everything back together, and it runs perfectly now. I ordered a new rotor and a cap to install as soon as it comes.. So if you have trouble with your pre distributerless ignition corolla, check the $10 rotor in the distributer FIRST. It's so easy to do. Hoping all the time I wasted doing my diagnostics in the wrong order will save someone else a lot of time to make up for my lost time. Thank you sir for your youtube channel. And don't mind the kidding about your accent. We are just jealous because we know the ladies really dig it. Happy wrenching everyone!

The very first thing to do is >>> check if the rotor is turning. It took me many months and new electronic parts to come to the conclusion that the timer belt was broken. Then nothing goes .

Peter, If oil in distributor, should I just replace entire assembly. I have checked O ring, it was brittle and broken when I tried to take it off. But, there was oil in distributor and on the inside of the cap. The ignition coil appears to be without resistance.
