"Going to the gym for the rest of your life IS going to the gym today." I love this because it encapsulates the reality that life is so much less beautiful and easy than we wish it was. I was thinking about it today as I drove to work passing a cornfield: I've seen music videos of musicians wandering through cornfields, or mountains, or whatever and it looks so inspirational. But do it yourself without the cinematography and the music and all you're doing is walking through a dirty cornfield. All the aesthetics are gone and it's just real life. Everyone wants their life to play out like a beautifully shot music video, but it's just not reality. Going to the gym every day sounds so great, but doing it today does not. Find beauty in the hard work, mundanity, and realness of life, not what you feel like life should be.

I would add that it's also a matter of conditioning. If you aren't used to finding beauty in the ordinary, then it will often seem like the beauty isn't there. But it is. And it's different than the "cinematic" beauty we've conditioned ourselves to believe is the goal, but I'd argue it's even more beautiful. It's entirely about perspective. For instance, lots of people seem to resonate with my cinematography in this video. People have been talking about how much my cinematography has improved. But if you break it down, all I'm doing is going out with my camera and observing the world around me, letting the beauty reveal itself -- and I capture it as I see it. I didn't create the beautiful images, I recorded them.

@@betterideas Meditation is the vehicle that gives you the ability to do that, I believe. Being lost in thought (like how almost everyone is) is the only thing that's getting in the way of experiencing life as it is (truly beautiful). I remember 3 years ago I was meditating every day for 10 minutes and did it for 6 months straight. Let me tell you, my life flipped 180 degrees. And I noticed it in the simple things of every day life. Watching the sunset or just going for a walk without being overwhelmed by concepts allowed me to live the best moments of my life. Sad thing is I stopped meditating after that period and came where I am today, not liking my life for the last couple of years. I'm going to start living and stop entertaining the concepts my mind is throwing at me. Thanks for the video Joey!

In Alcoholics Anonymous they tell you "One day at a time." So many newcomers walk through the door with the thought, "I have to not drink for the rest of my life," and that can be extremely overwhelming. So, one of the first things they must learn is to simply not drink today. Tomorrow will take care of itself, so focus on what you can do today. Some folks even break it down to hours and even minutes. Just focus on what you can do in this moment. Such a simple concept, but it can be so hard to follow through on, so we'll add, "Easy does it," as in, just don't take things so seriously. Focus on one thing at a time and let process play itself out, and as long as you're moving forward, even if you have to take a few steps back, that's okay. I remember when I first got sober, my sponsor would tell me, "Easy does it," but I took it to heart and just slacked off. I never looked for a job, I isolated, I spent too much time plopped in front of the TV, I got lazy and lethargic, and miserable. And bored. I was ready to start drinking again. So, one night after a meeting my sponsor sat me down and said, "David, I know I told you 'easy does it,' but I have to add something. 'Easy does it, BUT DO IT.'" It was an "either shit, or get off the pot" situation. I had a choice, either get off my ass and do the deed, or start drinking again. And I didn't want to start drinking again, so I got off my ass. And though I'm still a bit of a lazy bastard, I still get off my ass when needed. One day at a time.

I never bothered to differentiate between life and living. I thought that I just had to live the life I wanted because life…was just life, and things would happen without any control, but every time, my expectations weren’t picture-perfect. Because I kept pushing choices. I kept supporting myself with motivational quotes, telling myself, whatever happens, happens. When that doesn’t reassure me, I tell myself: “I have to make that choice.” Though subconsciously, I keep pushing it further away. So hearing this…wasn’t a wake-up call. But it was something I needed to hear. Life is living in the moment. I don’t know how to live correctly, but being decisive is the only way forward. If I keep letting my life go the way it is, I’d be stagnating. Thank you for creating this video. Because even if I know that life can’t be controlled, I’ve never really tried to change the way I’ve lived.

Recently I started filling my bucket again after many months of self-doubt and anxiety that followed something over a year of abuse I went through by my "best" friend. For a while now I've been watching channels like these, and slowly but surely they helped me realize that we aren't always in control of ourselves in life but we are in control of how life makes us feel. This summer I've found real friends that have given me invaluable lessons and experiences I wouldn't trade anything in the world for, and I'm on my way to be running XC for my school. It's never too late to start anything in life, and I think a good quote I read somewhere was "We don't have anxiety because of who we think we are, but because of who we think we are not."

Sometimes I follow a certain motion and it leads to better things, even though the motion itself is frowned upon. My go to when stressed is an awesome game and I usually do not game regularly and not just anything but sometimes I feel so burned out by life that I play certain games for 1-2 weeks excessively, like a mini vacation. Usually slightly story driven games or action adventures which let you experience things I wish I could experience in real life. This then, when done without beating myself up and guilt and expectations, gives me so much energy and motivation that I manage to implement a step in my real life that leads me closer to the experience I was searching in-game. No idea why I wrote that. I guess I want to say that sometimes if we follow the feeling of what we need and listen to ourselves, even if we or others are quick to judge this isn't optimal, it can help us going in the right direction towards a life we enjoy more.

I'm not going to lie, this video has me currently shook. Has me taking a hard look at my life, I'm someone who's lived a life of regret, pushing away every opportunity, no friends and just going into a cycle of coming home from work, getting paid at slightly above minimum, drinking and browsing the internet until I fall asleep only to wake up doing the same shit over and over again. I hate it, in fact I'm prepared to just go and I have no idea what to do.

I crave adventure, friendship... and endless road to drive down in search of anything new and just feel alive again in the motion of things.... to feel the fresh air fill me up to the back end of my skull and laugh again at all the silly jokes and weird shit people do when there's time to just drop the act and have some camaraderie. I crave a destination I will never reach, just an endless journey with memories to be made.... something to treasure. something I can call mine and find that it is enough. and maybe... at the end of it all.... there's the gal i've always loved waiting to see me come home to her. all I ever asked of god..

Most KZreadrs make basically no money off this platform and the ones that post weekly or more are making a significant effort and working very hard to do so. I appreciate the thoughtfulness that goes into these videos but please do not think that those who post more often are any less thoughtful.

I'm kinda over this help and philosophy stuff, I wish youtube wouldn't recommend it to me. At a certain point you have just been dealt a shitty hand, and what most people need more than motivational videos to shift your perspective is a government that cares about giving its populace a chance and systems in place to combat the pareto distribution and help everyone thrive. Sorry. It's like people who say that finally getting a decent job that pays well has done more for their mental health than years of therapy. You can only search within yourself to improve your life so much, when you are not the problem. "It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society." -Jiddu Krishnamurti

I agree... And, if you traumaticly loose you loved ones, then your career job you enjoyed, and end up having a mental breakdown. The stress of the trauma and loss, The anxiety it caused The insomnia it caused The mental illness of Depression it caused... And anhedonia. I'm unable to do anything anymore. I don't have any desires. ... Lost interests in hobbies, activities.... Yah,.. I tried several times,.. but there's nothing there anymore, no pleasure. I just sit.... unable to move. ...
